  1. Well, Gallant doesn't seem to be overly hateful, I guess we will have to wait for his PoV book to get a peek behind his quite and peaceful facade and finally see his true face - he might even be the male counterpart to Bella, who as we all know, is the Creator.
  2. I do think that you have picked up on something improtant here and the whole concept is extremely awesome, however I don't think it would be the pivotal point to the whole series. I rather think, that this important decision Taln will make is going to be somewhere in the first 5 books, since after the 5th book there will be a timeskip and I hope the whole Everstorm arc will be through by then. Not because I don't like it, but simply because whatever comes after it will be even more awesome. Plus, I don't like having the outline of the series decided by the first book, the Wheel of Time did that with Tarmon Gai'don and although I love WoT, I did not like the fact, that we had to wait for 14 books to finally see the last battle, even though everyone kept saying how close it is. Actually, the more I think about it, the more conflicted I am. I would love to see it play out the way you describe it.
  3. Just did some quick google-foo and here's what I found out: Kronos ate all his kids other than Zeus, who was hidden by his mother until he grew up. Kronos was fooled and ate a rock in his stead Zeus got Kronos to vomit his children out, who, since they were immortal, grew up inside his stomach. Zeus took Kronos's own scythe and cut him to small pieces, additionally scattering them in Tartarus, the deepest part of the underworld. Elysium is the place people go that did good in their lifes, as opposed to Asphodel, where the majority of people go or even the Fields of Pushinment, which is the greek equivalent to hell. There is also the Isles of the Blessed, only those that where reborn three times and achieved Elysium everytime get to go there Since Elysium is part of the underworld, it falls in the domain of Hades, not Kronos. Kronos was the King Titan and the lord of time So basically, Lord of Elysium would target Hades not Cronos, who at the time was practically irrelevant. Because of that I doubt that Adonalsium is supposed to mean Lord of Elysium, since Hades, albeit an important god, is not central in any way. Additionally, Lord of Elysium was not a titel used to describe him, most common were Lord of the Dead, Ruler of the Underworld and somesuch.
  4. The conception of my name is kind of embarassing now that I think of it, but whatever. This one time a friend of mine and I were pretty drunk at my place. We decided it would be a good idea to fire up my old playstation and play Final Fantasy 9, where I had Vivi in my party. I used focus a couple of times and my buddy, drunk as he was, proceeded to call this style "playing macro" (as in RTS game macro, aka economy). This developed to macro magician and then deteriorated to Makromag.
  5. The thing that I can't fit into this idea is the strength required to do so. Rand was able to reseal the bore, a whole in the Dark Ones prison. However, creating such a thing in the first place would be magnitudes harder to accomplish and I don't think even Rand could do that.
  6. ^ Exactly. I always assumed that he had his doubts before even starting this whole mess, but hearing them spoken by someone else cracked his shell I think this hit too close to his own thoughts for him to stay calm. On a related note, I truly believe Amaram is trying to do good, but he is straying too far from the right path for this to end well. If he is willing to turn the man who saved him into a slave and kill all his friends for his goals, what would he be unwilling to do?
  7. Well, that would be kind of anticlimatic. Lerasium and ati get the most powerful metals on their planet, Aona gets the AonDor, Skai gets the Skaze and what does Cultivation get? A horse that can't even talk. Poor Cultivation
  8. I am totally unsure of what aspects about WoT to put in spoilertags, so better safe than sorry.
  9. We know from the Way of Kings, that glassbeads represent objects in the physical realm, in the chapter where Shallan accidentally travels to Shadesmar and performs her first soulcasting This is where my theory begins: objects in the physical realm have a cognitive aspect, because they are seen and perceived by humans, they give them their identity. So if there were no people, there would be no beads. Since the oceans (on Roshar even more so) are uninhabitated, there can be no beads because there are no people to accommodate the creation of beads, the result is "land" in Shadesmar. My interpretation is, that it isn't land like in the physical realm, but one enormous sphere (well, maybe not exactly spherical, but you get the idea). The reason for this is, that people tend to think of oceans as exactly that, one huge mass of water. Many people thing of them and they are always thought of as one complete entity. This theory has it's weaknesses, for example I can't explain why the clearlake is a mountain in Shadesmar. My only theory on that is, that more people think of the clearlake than of the oceans, because people live there. In the interlude with Ishikk you can see, that he thinks of the lake quite frequently, so maybe its cognitive aspect is even greater than that of an ocean. The fires in the cognitve realm are people and the sun is the representation of a shard. The fires could also be spren, invisible in the real world, but perfectly visible as tiny flames, since they are the represantation of a concept. Those last two are completely baseless, simply stated for the wholeness of my theory. I hope this theory hasn't been posted yet, if so I am sorry. So then, what do you guys think? Anything that is condraticted by WoB?
  10. Wow, that was really dark. I really like the setting and whole exposition of the story. Truly a very good read, I am very excited for the book.
  11. I'm sorry, I completely misread your comment, for some reason I assumed you were serious, when you obviously were not.
  12. Well, I think Brandson said that Yolen was the first planet with human life, I just mean that it could have evolved the same way on other planets, only later.
  13. I really don't want to sound snippish, but I think Phantom meant it as a joke.
  14. Couldn't it be, that humans simply "formed" on both planets? I don't know which is more plausible, but I think it should at least be considered.
  15. Hmm, that does sound very interesting. It was confirmed by Brandon, that Hoid uses feruchemy to know where he has to be/ to know where important events will happen. I had always wondered what he could possibly be storing, and into what metal, that would give him such information. Perhaps the lerasium has to do with that. I wonder, what can you store in lerasium...?
  16. What I really liked about the book was the fact, that Joel, albeit talented, was a normal kid. I mean Vin, Kaladin and all the other main characters of Brandons books always seem so... powerful. I know they, too had it rough, they had their weaknesses, but they also had their incredibly rare superpowers making them very dangerous individuals. Joel on the other hand never gets true magical powers, though I believe he will in sequels, I was really scared when he was attacked by the scribbler and also at the second-to-final battle. He managed to create an atmosphere in which I could really connect with him, he tries to scream but nothing can be heard. When reading Mistborn or Way of Kings, I never felt scared. Don't get me wrong, I was excited, tense, but nothing creeped me out like the scribbler did. I agree however, that the ending was a little to much in-the-face, some thoughts on Joels part combined with a meaningful smile of Nalezar would have driven the point home far better than the dialogue has.
  17. I didn't consider random events, yes I think those definitely would pass as possible nodes in my book. What I was trying to say was, that an augur can find a leaf that exists. To find they right path to it, that would be quite the challenge I suspect. I wonder if using malatium would make it easier for a forger to create essence marks for other people, I mean they could only see the other version, but it can help, just like with Vin and TLR.
  18. I always felt, that forgery was a lot like gold-burning. When you burn gold, you see, feel, "experience" a version of yourself with an alternate history and because of this different history the person you feel is different from the person you are at the moment. A valid forgery, one that takes, is a plausible history, depending on the current history of yourself or the object you want to stamp. Basically, the forgery changes some of your life-changing decisions to different ones. I view it very much like taking different branches in a tree-diagram: you take different routes, and as such land at a different leaf (end of the tree, aka present). A forgery that takes, then, would be one that passes nodes that were visited by you throughout your life. An example for such a node: say I attended karate-training and decided to quit. I could then create an essence-mark in which the "me" decided to dig into karate and become a black-belt of high rank. This would take, because I had the chance to take this branch, but decided against it. One that would NOT take, would be where I want to forge myself become japanese (I am not), because I never had the chance to "decide" hey, I want to be japanese. Now, to finally draw the connection between gold and forgery, I belive, that if shai could burn gold to "become" another version of herself, she could create an essence mark that would take, based on what she saw during her gold-vision, since gold shows you an actual alternate history/version. This became very convoluted very quickly, so I hope someone can actually understand it
  19. [3P] Necrosil misting, steel ferring: takes care of other allomancers by tapping his speed, quickly bursting their metal reserves while causing confusion, I assume a tin misting wouldn't be too pleased to have his senses explode suddenly [1P] Brass misting for infiltrating societies. I imagine this one much like Breeze, just female, a very smooth talker who is acquainted with many, friends with none. [3P] tin misting, copper ferring. Perfect for scouting security, remembering every detail perfectly knowing every nook and cranny [1p] a pewterarm, simply for the raw strength and hitting things. [1P] an iron ferring that has worked as a contortionist for a long time, being very flexible and capable to get through small entrances and climb to high places without making any sounds because he is awesomely light and quiet. [1P] an aluminum dud, responsible weapons, armor and other odd equipment. specialises in sharpshooting from a distance when he is actually on a mission, though he usually stays behind and tinkers on cool stuff for the others.
  20. The theory seems plausible enough, if it were not for one thing in the prologue: The way Kalak speaks of the place, If it were a battle of minds and weilding the powers of shards, it would be "simply" a battle of cognitive aspects much the same as when Vin and Ati fought, albeit very draining and/or painfull. However Kalaks description seems oddly specififc for such to be true, leading me to believe they inhibit actual bodies, though I do not know the exact process to how those bodies do not simply disintigrate under such treatment.
  21. I am in my 4th semester in university studying computer science and I have a problem with staying alert during any lecture, now matter how much i like the subject or how interesting it is, I cannot for the life of mine stay frigging awake. It has gotten better recently, when I try to do things that entertain me mildly without actually hampering my abiity to think and follow the professor like spinning a pen between my fingers or drawing.
  22. I was listening to The Way of Kings again and as I was coming to the epilogue, the description of Taln made think: So, he was wet, or rather doused. What else is wet when it appears? Shardblades. I know it's not much to go by, but I think the way of transportaion must be similar, if not identical to the summoning of a shardblade. Do we know where the shardblades are while they are not summoned? perhaps they go to the same place as the Heralds
  23. Another point where something similar is mentioned is in one of Kaladin's flashbacks, the one where he thinks of his fight with Jost. He says that moment "sang" to him. Perhaps it's just a metaphor, however I wouldn't put it past Mr. Sanderson to throw in hints like that. I'm sorry, but I only have the audio-book, so i can't exactly look for it.
  24. That's actually a very interesting question. I believe a kandra would'nt be able to use the actual ink used to create the tatoo, because it is not a natural bodily fluid, instead they could change the pigmintation of their skin to form the tatoo. That's completely hypothetical though, so take it with a grain of salt.
  25. Aloha and welcome to the 17thShard! I hope you are going to have a great time here, I know I am. I'm currently reading Warbreaker and playing Chrono trigger, after being recommended a lot I finally picked it up and I have to say, I love it! See you around.
