xposted from Tumblr: My Stormlight Archive OC, chasm-vaulting sentinel Tezml (named via collaborative effort on the 17th shard disco) meets Eshonai. This would be sometime during Way of Kings. Eshonai has a tendency to wander on her own, and being a shardbearer it’s not like she’s in any danger when she does. I don’t think the war lessened her interest in humans either. Not enough so she’d immediately kill a lone unarmed sentinel, at least. Tezml is an adventurer (i wouldn’t put it past her to get so into reaching a little further each time that she wouldn’t notice a Parshendi on the plateau she just vaulted on.) she pretended to be a man so she could join the army and see the shattered plains and the parshendi by herself- so the fascination goes both ways…

This was supposed to be the Lopen, but i ended up using these facial features mostly for Kaladin. This was drawn back in 2017.

crossposted from Tumblr: So i’m working thru some serious burnout lately. I’ve therefore devised a way to avoid this kind of problem in the future: i’m joining the storming ardentia. This spawned a very interesting conversation on the 17shard discord about whether or not being allowed to eat both spicy and sweet food was worth becoming a glorified slave. Unsurprisingly, the general consensus seems to be “yes”. Although the ardent outfit is described multiple times as a grey *robe* i ended up drawing something that’s closer to a buddhist monk outfit (although my main inspiration was actually the outfit traditionally worn by japanese shrine maidens) Also this is literally a SA self-insert and that’s why she’s, yknow, white. I don’t think she’s of Shin heritage, though so… Maybe one of her parents was a worldhopper from Scadrial? Alternatively, she IS a worldhopper, just a v lame one. As for her Devotary: in the way of kings, there’s an Order Of Talenelat mentioned alongside the Devotaries of Purity/Sincerity/Insight etc, which makes me think there might be one for all the other Heralds as well. Therefore, she’s in the Order of Shalash.

When i posted this picture on Reddit (bad idea for starters) people were very mean. Hopefully you guys won't be! No, she's not pregnant. Her body's based on the body shape i had when i drew the pic.

This is a very important scene in the comic i’m very happy i finally got to draw, and that’s why i went all out. It’s a turning point in Kaladin and Gaz’s alliance/friendship, and a moment marked by great trust from both of them- for Kaladin, it’s letting someone in on a secret that could get him and his men executed. And for Gaz it’s going somewhere secluded, at night, with the shash-branded slave with nothing to lose. The passing of the torch is symbolic as well for this very reason. Although it’s less about a change of roles and more like Kaladin letting Gaz in on his plans. It’s kind of a gamble on Kaladin’s part.

The thing is, Kaladin is really tall. He's freakishly tall. I think Brandon said he was almost 2mt tall, which is mind boggling to me. We don't have a precise canon height for Gaz, but he's shorter than Shallan, who's, if i recall correctly, around 5'6. Sometimes i have to decrease this height difference simply because i have to fit them both in the same picture, ahah.

Oh i basically have been waiting to draw this scene since i started the comic. Not exactly this page, since i hadn’t decided on a lot of stuff- nor expected i’d get this far at all tbh- but Gaz almost sort of being sorry for being... yknow.... Like That. Not outright a villain, but he was a hurdle that Kaladin had to overcome in a way or another. In this AU, he just went beyond that to turn him into an asset as well
