Sort of a companion piece to the Lopen pic i made yesterday. I really like Gaz and i really like “in the garden” by Red Vox so that’s why this is like the second pic i drew based on the song, and i can’t promise there won’t be a third… Oh by the way here’s a message for Brandon: YO DUDE, GIVE! MY! BOY! HIS! EYE! BACK!

From Words of Radiance, chapter 24 I am LOVING Gaz's tiny redemption arc, and his banter with Shallan (well, Shallan’s banter with him) in this chapter was really nice. Letting others make him the butt of their jokes and trying really hard to stop anyone for mentioning he was a bridge sargeant, like he really really doesn’t want to think about the (admittedly HORRID) person he was before. I’m so happy Brandon gave him a fighting chance.

Pls enjoy this extremely tiny Gaz i drew to cheer myself up when i was bummed out. I want to re-listen to The Way Of Kings because i love the nasally voice the narrator gave him, it’s so funny.

So here’s a drawing of Shallan’s main (named) bodyguards, part of homegirl’s ever-expanding, accidental army of just the worst of the worst of Roshar, all of which would storming die for her. There’s little to no description given for Red and Vathah. Maybe they’re described in Oathbringer and i’m going to feel really silly. But i got to have fun with the designs. (Why do i always draw Gaz with his eye closed??)

I really do think the deserters are good people, and it’s not just Shallan’s lightweaving that led to them doing the right thing (and tagging along with her like a pack of trained dogs) it did help tho. I think it’s cool that the last time we see Gaz in Way of Kings he’s a slimy coward and the first time we see him in Words of Radiance he basically leads a heroic charge. He just needed a lil push in the right direction.

Painspren are described as looking like sinew or little hands reaching out/over/into wounds. I thought the image was really visceral, and that’s lowkey what i’ve been about the last few days. Drawing this felt cathartic.
