  1. Nogard nodded. "The island is alive, and intelligent. You can talk to it, I suppose; it might listen. It's obviously taking an interest in us, for whatever reason." He looked around at the faintly glowing walls again. "Don't expect it to answer, though- at least not directly. It can't speak to your mind without a link." He heard Araha mutter something about the spren of the island. He turned towards her. "You are correct, of course. The islands do have spren. A very specific sort of spren, in fact. "The spren of the Alleycanes."
  2. Hidden under his hood, Rekaerb watched the proceedings with interest. This ought to be interesting.
  3. Nekorb stooped down and carried one of the bodies to the pit, lost in thought.
  4. Nogard paused for a second to collect his thoughts, then began. "17 years ago- for us, at least- the Seven Day War happened. There were many, many effects of that battle, but one- the alleystorm- has had a profound impact on these islands. "Before the alleycanes, the islands that were here were your ordinary, run-of-the-mill volcanic islands, much like North Island remains today. There was no intelligence. There was, however, Connection. It wasn't very powerful, but it was there. Given time, it may have grown and developed into sapience. Who knows? The islands, however, didn't have to wait. "Because after the war came the alleycanes." Nogard paused for breath. "The alleystorm, as you probably know, doesn't reach the whole of the alleyplanet: it travels a set path around the planet's surface, leaving out the North and South poles, along with their surrounding areas. "The storm still reaches these places, however, because of alleycanes, storms that split off from the main, developing a life- and usually, sapience- of their own. They travel all the surface of the planet that the alleystorm doesn't cover, bringing investiture to places that otherwise would not receive it. When they came to these islands, they mutated the Connection that was already there, speeding up the process by which it gathered sapience. Eventually, the various Connection scattered about on one particular island gathered together into one central location. "That was the first island gemheart."
  5. Nekorb followed after Laonin, still stunned by what he had witnessed. Was the shade possessing him somehow? He didn't know how that was possible.
  6. Rekaerb walked unnoticed through the room, watching and noting the various activities of the party guests.
  7. Nekorb watched in astonishment as the Shade transformed back into Alask. “Sorry for trying to reduce you to a skeleton,” he said. “Please don’t tell Laonin.” Nekorb stared open mouthed at Alask as he walked away. He snapped out of his astonishment and scrambled to his feet. "Wait! What- Why- How?"
  8. Nekorb felt the withering power of the Shade enter him and get deflected by the wall. He heard the shade growl in frustration, then throw itself at him. Nekorb yelped, then fell down, desperately trying to fend off attacks from the shade. He was immune to the withering effect, but this shade was corporeal. It had other ways to kill.
  9. Nekorb felt the Shade reach out towards him. He closed his eyes. He'd seen what this monster could do. The Shade touched him. Nothing happened. Nekorb stumbled to a halt, confused. @I think I am here.
  10. Nekorb looked down. He'd accidentally stepped on one of the fallen- yet still living- gang members. Blood ran from the wound. He looked up in time to see the Shade charging at him. He ran, but not fast enough.
  11. Nekorb arrived just in time to see Alask transform. He stopped in horror. What was this?
  12. Nekorb suddenly ran into the alley where the fight was.
  13. Nekorb rushed through the streets of the Alleycity, trying to find the place where he had seen his friends fighting from above in the plane.
  14. Nogard felt a twinge of disappointment as Damaya ran off. He wished he could put into words exactly why.
  15. I'm not against the points system. I was just pointing out that it couldn't be used judging who would be victorious in a fight.
  16. The points system is linear. The actual power sets and weaknesses of the characters will be nonlinear. This means that, no matter what, there will have to be discussion of some sort on characters that push the limits of OPness. Just because an ability isn't included in the points system doesn't mean it can't be accounted for. EDIT: Mac, I thought we decided that Voidus Prime was not actually the Avatar of Voidus, didn't we?
  17. That's not what I was trying to counter. When I think of analysis, I meant analyzing the power level: giving a general idea of how powerful they are.
  18. My point still stands, though: having less points doesn't mean anything if you can exploit your opponent's weakness.
  19. I don't think that points could be used to determine who would win in a fight because weaknesses are not power-proportional: for instance, a leecher could win against a skilled Awakener even if they had thousands of breaths; they could just leech anything the Awakener sends at them.
