  1. Tom held the vial in trembling hands. He uncorked it, hesitated for a moment, then drank it all. Then he exploded.
  2. Something in Tom broke. The key fell from his hands. "Forgive me," he whispered. Then he raised the knife.
  3. He's not going to kill her himself- but he doesn't need to. Tom hesitated for a second, Key poised in midair.
  4. Tom shook his head, feeling the coldness deep within. "I can't. I can't." He raised the key to lock Tamika back up again, to protect her from death.
  5. He slumped to the floor, defeated. "I can't do it, Star. I can't kill her."
  6. Yes. David mentions how Larcener is different from most assumer epics- "most only rent their powers".
  7. "She destroyed me, Star. She fused the serum to my soul. Forever." That would probably be ideal, although we could probably make it work on, like, the Alliance thread.
  8. Tom stared skyward. "Did she, though?" he whispered. You can duel elsewhere. TLPW and TLT are rivals, after all.
  9. Why on TLPW? This is TLT business. "Not just what I did. What she did, too."
  10. Joke's on him, the God Beyond can't actually do anything. He's in the Beyond, see...
  11. Tom trembled. "I know what I need to do," he whispered. "I could never be happy with her. Not after what happpened." Ooh, let's make it a truel.
  12. The figure looked at Zeoy in surprise. Did you drive it away? he asked, puzzled. To answer your question, yes- we'll get more into that soon. But you should have Silence on you; it will make it easier.
  13. Tom turned to Tamika. He extended the Key in a trembling hand, pushed it into her chest, and turned. He withdrew it, breathing hard.
  14. Tom kept his eyes closed. But, deep inside, he could feel something. The first something he'd felt in a long, long while. "I hate you," he whispered. Then he opened his eyes, full of despair. "Send for Tamika."
  15. Tom closed his eyes. "The price of letting go," he whispered, barely loud enough for her to hear it.
  16. He closed his eyes and looked away. He reached into his belt and pulled out the Key. "Perhaps," he said. "But the price would be too high to pay."
  17. Tom studied her for a moment. "I should feel something," he muttered. "I know I have to have some feeling left, somewhere, or I wouldn't do anything at all."
  18. He looked at her with a flat stare. "You could help me?"
  19. There was an even longer pause. "I... don't know. To gain power, I suppose. To become a Narrator."
  20. "She should be," he whispered. "She should be."
  21. Tom was silent for a long moment. Finally, he spoke. "I used to care," he said. "Back then, it was all selfishness and hurting others." He looked down. "I removed that. I found Calamity, killed him, and took the Key." He looked up at the stars again, a dead look in his eyes. "But it was too late for my soul." He turned to Star. "I keep her around because I thought -just maybe- she could make me care again."
  22. He looked directly into her eyes. His irises were completely black, with no sign of their original coloring. "I don't care," he whispered. "Everyone I knew could die, and I wouldn't care. The world could end in ashes and fire and I wouldn't care. The whole universe could collapse, and I wouldn't care." He turned back to the window. "I gave up caring a long, long time ago."
