    Draug took off his other boot and set it neatly besides its brother. "How are they supposed to test us and control us when they don't believe we exist?"

    "Nervous about what?" asked Draug, taking one of his shoes off and setting it besides the smoldering embers of the door. "Not about the police, I hope?"

    Samika lowered the Key, eyes still narrowed. "You're a kandra, aren't you? I've heard of your kind." She relaxed her face slightly, but her posture remained tense. "What were you planning on doing with them when you caught them?" @Dr. Dapper On a hunch, Tom indexed the other handerfles that had been on the boat during Samika's rampage. Most of them were quickly found, checked, and identified- but six of them (including Arsek) appeared to have inexplicably disappeared. And, coincidentally, they had also been the six handerfles closest to where Samika had stood. A knot of anxiety began to form in Tom's chest...

    Xino sat down besides her. "So... now we wait."

    Xino shook his head. "Not off as in strange, off as in off. Deactivated."

    Xino hesitated. "I don't think so," he said uncertainly. "It seems... off."

    Xino reached forwards... and his finger met an invisible wall of force. "Blocked," he said grimly.

    Draug snorted. "It would be nice if that worked." He took a step inside, gingerly stepping over the flames. "So, uh... why exactly are we setting the door on fire?"

    Draug stared at the flaming door, speechless. A piece of burning wood landed on his cheek, stormlight healing it instantly. "What are we not revealing, exactly?" he managed to get out at last. "And... why?"

    Draug landed heavily on the front step, too tired to make a soft landing. He knocked twice on the door, then stood back, shoulders slumped.

    Demmanu fell from the sky. It's remarkable just how often this happens, he reflected as he plummeted. I really ought to do something about it. But not now, of course. He had more pressing concerns at the moment.
