  1. A small tear manifested itself slowly before his eyes. A patch of darkness, absolute in its emptiness, hungry in its expansion.
  2. Asnest the Quetzalcoatl hissed with dismay. Once more, his prey had evaded him. He would face no end of ridicule from the other Quetzalcoatls for this.
  3. Invading monsters, hm?
  4. Behind him, a brief - yet horrible - sound tickled his ears. The sound of reality itself tearing apart.
  5. "Oh, I know," replied the octopus. "I'm doing it one last time, for old times' sake." In a swift blur of motion, one of his arms transformed into a polished metal weapon, sleek and deadly. He fired it three times in quick succession, blasting a hole straight through Gerald. "Goodbye," he added, as Gerald's corpse dropped to the ground.
  6. "Is not... destruction... my right?" The fox's eyes glowed as it prepared one final strike. "Child," said James's shadow. "Why do you continue a method that so obviously has failed to bring fruit?"
  7. "I've decided to turn over a new leaf!" declared Dr. Who Octopus. "No more with the outlandishly complex schemes for world domination. No more with the fiendishly constructed death traps to finish you off. And no more long, revealing monologues for demonstrating my genius!"
  8. Dr. Who Octopus sighed. "See? I was too caught up in making your downfall as epic as possible. And he doesn't even remember it! Spectacle just isn't working out for me."
  9. Has Ellis forgotten him already?
  10. Decrin continued to say nothing, only continued to walk. Eventually, the pair came to a stop at a large rock. "I got him," whispered Decrin to the figure hiding behind the rock. "Good," replied Jeffery grimly. "Let's get back. I'm sure the Fellowship will be quite interested to hear of these events." The shadow engulfed James, matching Vapor push for push. A faint image of the shadow's features became apparent, smiling somewhat mockingly. "You... have not... suffered an eternity of imprisonment." The fox gasped, betraying its weakened state.
  11. A shadowy figure lurked at the window to the hall.
  12. Gerald sighed. "What is it this time?" "I have come to destroy you!" Gerald performed the eyebrow-raise-equivalent. "Oh, really? How surprising." "I'm serious," continued Dr. Who Octopus. "Our last conflict has sent me into deep introspection. I thought long and hard about all our conflicts, and have come to a startling conclusion: I focus too much on spectacle!"
  13. Rotcennoc sighed. This had gone on long enough. With a crack of darkness, he stepped into the void. Cautiously- wary of whatever had stopped him earlier- he shifted to above the surface.
  14. It was approximately fifteen feet in length.
  15. Dr. Who Octopus pushed his way further into the tent. "Oh, I make a point of not following the rules."
