    Selppaenip executed a expert dance with his katanas, deflecting each of the maces just enough to miss him. TP grumbled and turned around. He wasn't even sure how he had ended up back where he started in the first place. "He's not home," grumbled the voice.

    "No one seems to be dead as far as I can tell. And sure!" The band flashed, and suddenly Salem appeared next to Tam and Bat. "I think love is always a little crazy. Wouldn't be much fun if it wasn't!" The Ennuller stood in front of him, blocking his path. You speak of the new recruit? Do not worry about him. He is in our care, now. I am going to stand here and stabilize your core. explained the man. Someone else is going to take a deeper dive and try to excise that contaminant. Another Ennuller entered the room, surveying Tenth up and down.

    "I don't know. Sounds an awful lot like love to me. I've heard it comes in several flavors." Hello, said a voice, not too friendly and not too unfriendly. What brings you to the Halls of Silence, sir? The man led him into through a door labeled INFIRMIRY into what appeared to be a doctor's waiting room. I've got a fresh recruit with something unusual in his core. It's causing random activation- highly dangerous. The woman behind the desk nodded and waved him through the door to her right. Tenth was marched into an operation room. Selppaenip unsheathed his katanas and engaged the General. [You mean the snowy mountain was a volcano this entire time?] There was a rumbling beyond the door. "Who is it?" "Why on earth would I be dead? How on earth would I be dead? Narrators are, generally speaking, immortal."

    "Ah," said Bacon sagely. "Among my people, we have a term for that. It's called 'being in love.'" Oh no Bacon will always be there for the lone characters! The Ennullers finished their healing, bowed to the amassed crowd, then vanished. Sure. The pair passed through nothingness... ...and arrived in a hall painted in black and white. Ennullers popped in and out of existence, moving into and out of hallways. Despite the bustle, it was utterly quiet- save for the quiet un-sound of Ennuller speech. Follow me, the Ennuller instructed, leading Tenth down a hallway. I'm not going to delete his craziness, don't worry But he is brand new to the Ennulling game. "It's me, Bacon the Bard! You seem lost. Are you lost?" "No way to know without trying!" TP grunted. [Ow.] Up ahead, the battlefield was coming back into view. The Ennuller bowed his head in acknowledgement and vanished. Oh man I've done so much worse "Woohoo!" said Bacon's clone, who had never left.

    "You're crazy because you overextended yourself," said Bacon obediently.

    "The ones in the basement," said the woman. "In the cages." She looked at Beosta with hope and pleading. Bacon made a note on his notepad. "Add... glass... of water."

    "Do you think you could do it to the others?" she asked hopefully. "Glad to hear it! I take it you have no advice for improvement, then?"

    You cannot, not directly. (They're more or less made of pure chaotic darkness.) I imagine you can feel it within you, trying to act of its own accord. Here. The ennuller released a pulse of power, tearing a hole in the world and dropping him and Tenth into the Void. (A few moments after, ennullers showed up and began pulling the people who were still alive out of the ground.) One of the survivors perked up at this. "Did you just... remove a withergeist from him?" "Psst!" her band whispered. "Happy Birthday to Bacon," suddenly started playing faintly. Three breadmunks danced by, doing the macarena. Each carried a cupcake on their heads, which they set down in front of Beosta. The cupcakes were, of course, maple-bacon flavor. With an explosion of bacon-colored streamers, Bacon the Bard appeared. "On a scale of one to ten," he announced, "how would you rate that appearance?" Selppaenip puzzled this out. "Should we... attempt to disarm her, then use her weapons against her?" TP flexed his very large wing with particular force, hoping to use its bulk to bat away the General. The ennuller nodded. Thank you for your time. I hope we shall never have to use this information. He paused. One final question- I don't suppose you could tell us how you came into being? "Absolutely! Do you have any idea how many people say 'bacon' on a daily basis?" "At your service!" Bacon bowed. Bacon choked. "What?" Bacon harrumphed. "That's not funny, you know. Faking people out like that." The ennuller frowned. Hmm. Well, as long as you remain... combined... you count as having access to the Powers of Silence. Which means you have a choice. He held up a finger. You can agree to come and be trained in the Silent Halls, or... he held up a second finger. You can have your ennulling abilities excised from your soul. Bacon can be in multiple places at once if he wants to.

    The peace and order is more than just an emotion; it targets the power as well. The ennuller expertly countered the attempts of Tenth's power to nullify the stasis. He instilled a wall around the power, holding it within Tenth. The power of Silence has awakened within you. And it is acting... unruly.

    "Thank you," whispered the survivor, following Asher up the stairs. The rest of the group followed up into the sunlight, their faces hollow. The Ennuller stood on empty air, calmly reaching out his hand. A wave of peace and tranquility and stability washed through Tenth. The people buried in the dirt around them froze in place, held in stasis. They can't simply be healed, but the process can be accelerated with focused energy. She'll probably be recovering for the next couple of days.

    The battle is won, and the dragon is satisfied. The last of the mist dispersed. "Is outside... safe?" asked one of the survivors. Hmm. Well, we had best be getting you to headquarters so that we can un-merge you. What are you doing? asked the Ennuller sharply, casually blocking Tenth's attempt. Were there any sleep breaks in between then and now, actually?

    Quite serious indeed. Can he elaborate more on this supposed danger to the Thread? No, I wouldn't say they're immune. Not too attached, but it seems unlikely Tenth could defeat an experienced Ennuller.

    I don't think Tenth has enough experience to have a specialty yet! Ennulling is something one needs to practice to get good at. The Ennuller frowned. An Ennuller fused to your soul? This is quite serious. How long ago did this occur? Does he have any memory of what he was doing before it happened? My first appearance was waaay before that. An Ennuller appeared. Hello. I represent the Order of Silence.

    What, and you didn't tell me? A sort of alternate personality, then? Well, even if the power is an orderly influence, each person is an individual with their own personality. So, do you have an idea for how Tenth would have evaded recruitment?

    The Ennuller cocked his head. How did that happen? Conflict buzzed happily as it was dismissed. It's also a new development that everyone is an Ennuller now XD So Tenth has always been an Ennuller? What is this "it" that you are not making chaotic? Are you talking about Tenth's behavior?

    Anyone who has the power of Silence is recruited by the Ennullers. They aren't a big fan of rogues.

    Bacon snapped and they were transported to the spider pit. An ennuller was waiting for them there, brushing the last of the spiders off of himself with a shudder. He glared at Bacon. I imagine you think this is funny, don't you? "Master!" cried Selppaenip in relief. "Tell me. What are we to do against the General?" TP launched an electrical attack against the General. The Ennuller frowned. Could you be more specific? There have been many dark and bright days, and will be many more. Also @SpiritOfWrath, what is Tenth's association with the central body of Ennullers?

    "Oh, I've had practice handling myself against Ennullers! Only the strongest of them can directly counter Narration, anyhow." Bacon tapped his chin. "But you're right, a mentor would be good. Fortunately for you, the Ennullers actively recruit anyone with the appropriate ability. In fact..." There was a thump down below, followed by an inverted-sound scream. "I bet that's them right now!" He found Tam collapsed and bleeding and a very dead pale man. As the mist cleared, the remaining withergeists fled in the face of the sun. Maybe a few guards left in the basement with the prisoners. [Oooh!] said TP, chuckling. [That tickles!] His scales flared to blue, absorbing the electricity. "Should we close in?" asked Selppaenip. "I, also, am best in close combat." The ennuller followed. What are they named? How will we know when they are about to appear?

    "Charnyx," gasped the pale man. "Please..." And then he died. A withergeist rose from his corpse, looked around contemptuously at the gathered group, then twisted into darkness. The fog around the town slowly began to dissipate, allowing the sun to shine once more. "Can't say that I have! That sounds like a peculiar situation indeed. Did you meet someone like that?"

    The mordite burned like nothing Tam had ever felt before. It was hard to even think through the pain. Surely, this must be death. The man smiled and tried to say something, but only managed a gurgle. He scowled and pulled the sword out. It is indeed. The blade pierced through the dome of vines and stabbed the pale man in the chest. He screamed. Vines boiled over the wound, trying to heal it, but to no avail. The rest of the dome withered and fell apart. "No," he gurgled faintly. "This... can't be..." TP would have grunted, but his nostrils were sealed up. He was going full speed, and this Ghanderflaffle could still catch up? That hardly seemed fair. Well, he was a slippery Plot-beast when he needed to be. He initiated evasive maneuvers. Surely one of the people on his back would be able to help him out. "Hmm," said Selppaenip. "That does seem problematic. Is there anything we can do about that while fleeing from your former compatriot?" He gestured to the General. Indeed. We are told you know of their nature. The guard made a feeble swipe with his sword and was impaled. He collapsed. A withergeist attempted to pull its way free of the corpse, tearing itself on Conflict. It ripped, fading away with a faint hiss.

    Mordite has the ability to kill anything. A strike from the blade through the core of a being is always fatal: less direct blows are not likewise fatal but cause significant damage. "Clearing out the infestation! How did it go? I take it from the fact you were fighting with someone bonded to a 'geist that there were complications."
