  1. Woden stills. A strange moss, slippery to words. He needs the silver. He needs it... not. It is too sneaky. But how?
  2. "If only it were that simple," said X's avatar. "But you can't simply walk into this portal and emerge a day in the past. I mean, it's a possibility- but you might also end up at any other day in the portal's existence."
  3. "No, no. The sword is out of your reach. What isn't is the portal Xino made with the sword, trying to track down a lost friend. Kind of like you are, in fact." X's avatar gestured to the portal projected by the arm. "The portal went back one day in time, and it was never destroyed."
  4. "That, and much more. This was the weapon of a Narrator, after all."
  5. Woden turns and pushes against the ice-covered moss behind him. "Shattered glass," he whispers.
  6. Woden points the... thing on his arm at the creature. "You are fire!" he says. Moss ash flutters to the ground.
  7. "His name was Xinoehp," continued X's avatar, "though everyone called him Xino. After the split, there were two of him- one continued going by his true name, the other adopted the nickname. But that's not important. What is important is the sword, an artifact unique to the fallen twin, which had the power to burn through space- and time."
  8. "Hey!" cried Woden. "Fire!"
  9. "They reached back in time, fusing Shard of Thought (nicknamed Star)'s timeline to their own, restoring her and everything that happened in her timeline. And one of the things that had happened in her timeline was a great battle with the forces of the Void in which one of the Narrators that had become part of Star's group lost everything. Unwilling to lose it all again, he resisted the reunion. And, well... it worked. The universes split, and the group was cast into another reality."
  10. X's avatar nodded. "A group of Narrators agreed with that assessment and sought to restore her to existence. However, things... didn't exactly go as planned."
  11. X's avatar shook his head. "Sorry, just thinking to myself. See, the portal isn't in TLT, but it almost is. When it was created... wait, I should explain the Bifurcation first. So. Shard of Thought. A Narrator unlike any other, willing to break the Fourth Wall and all that. Things happened- she made friends, enemies, and enemies that became friends - but eventually, the decision was made that such a being could not be allowed to exist. And so, she was erased from reality."
  12. "Vision!" said Woden. "I see the world. The world sees me! We can talk. It listens."
  13. X's avatar smiled sadly. "I would love that," he said, "but-" He held off as a thought struck him. "Unless..." he muttered. "A conjunction? If anywhere, there would be the place..."
  14. "I did! It gave me fire," replied Woden. "Accura didn't like that," he said sadly.
  15. "Of course. The help I can give will be mostly in the form of information, however."
  16. "Inju-red," said Woden, satisfied. "Yes! No wood. I burned it."
  17. "One hundred and seventy six," replied Davey promptly.

  19. X's avatar shrugged sadly. "Times have changed."
  20. But the secret society had become so secret reality had forgotten its existence.
  21. But he'd forgotten why this information had been important.
  22. "Is something burn-" Woden blinked. "No... foggy words. Is something... red?"
