  1. Personally, I did not see this as leaving bad luck. I took "Curse of Kind" to mean that people would be left with fortune related to how they treated him (kind of a karma concept). We have not seen Axies treated well yet. I'm probably wrong, but that is how I envisioned it.
  2. This post gave me a strange idea. What if, on Ashyn, it was possible to be a "Surgeborn" (having access to all 10 surges) and the entire gifting of certain surges via the honorblades was a type of control mechanism to assure only two surges were allowed for one individual? In addition, what if the original combination (whether it was 2,3,4 etc.) which caused the cataclysm were spaced apart to assure that no one could again access them? The story that surgebinding destroyed a planet would still propagate even though Honor had put checks in place to try to prevent a similar incident. In addition, telling people of the danger of surges would still be wise just in case something unexpected occurred.
  3. We have a few WoB's which suggest that orders of KR have "surges" (in this Wob "quirks") specific to their order. Here is an example: Wetlander In addition to the two abilities given by each surge, does a Knight Radiant order have a third blended ability, the interaction of its two given surges? Brandon Sanderson Not specifically as phrased there, but each order has quirks that are unique to it. They are magical quirks, but it's not necessarily a blend of the powers. There is quite a bit of speculation on the subject. I add this to reopen the topic as I am certainly not the first to discuss this subject. Lets start with the surges: So we have a "Round robin" type system with a possible confluence within the shared surges. I would like to suggest a few, open to discussion (very wide in many cases). My suggestions are quite wild in many cases. I am attempting to solicit discussion and thinking: Windrunners - Adhesion and Gravitation Gravitation - drawing towards Adhesion - a tight bond Windrunners draw people (and perhaps spren) towards a tight knit group (much like bridge four). This explains the high number of squires. The other effects such as windspren joining up to repel the storm to allow people to reach safety at the insistence of Kaladin. Skybreakers - Gravitation and Division Gravitation - Drawing towards Division - Seperation Skybreakers seem to be able to separate (on some level) good from evil amongst people. Division seems rather undirected without a specific purpose. Please add thoughts to this from other orders (Bondsmiths is kind of the next obvious choice)
  4. It does seem that Odium is scared of something. I do not feel it is Cultivation because she has also touched Dalinar.
  5. I agree. Sounds like a Thaylen's dream product. "You've got the brows, now add the lashes with Spiritual Perma-lashes!" Jokes aside, I think this is interesting. I did kind of associate their floating in a way with skyeels.
  6. ..............so can I vote for Nightblood?
  7. Hoid should just recruit Lift and take her along on his travels. She is great at finding food. Problem solved!
  8. I agree with this. It would be wonderful to see Jasnah and Kaladin working together to restore Alethkar. Jasnah taking a very strategic role while Kaladin is more tactical. They manage the task even though they disagree strongly on the end result. Over that time, they develop a strong respect for each other and the final restructuring of Alethkar is a combination of both of their desires. It is rare, at least in my experience, to see an author accomplish such a dynamic absent of any "shipping". However, if anyone could accomplish it, Sanderson could. However, as you stated, it is a matter of page time. This may be tangent to the story he wants to tell. I do believe that, for the moment, Jasnah is satisfied that Kaladin is not a fool (in contrast to Amaram).
  9. Have an upvote. I was thinking something along the line of "Rhythms of Remembrance", but yours works better.
  10. I think Jasnah uses insults (or at least a confrontational attitude) as an assessment technique. In WoK, she is very confrontational with Shallan as well during their early meetings. I think her smile at the end of the confrontation (after Kaladin suggests cuddling skyeels), indicates she is more comfortable with him and his ability to think on his feet to an extent than she is with Amaram(who was also in Dalinar's confidence). I agree with the rest of your argument and I'm not quite sure what to call her technique (perhaps over the top Socratic method?) Considering her willingness to protect her family, I believe she wanted to assess his behavior and ability to think and use restraint. Her smile is not one of romantic interest.
  11. Q: Why is Renarin the wildcard in the Diagram? WoK ch 15 A: Easy, he's the Joker ............Someone needs to make the bad jokes around here.

I don't know which way I should go I'll map and paint, so I will know Urithiru, Urithiru, So many hallway branches. Urithiru, Urithiru, So many hallway branches. I think it's one big Fabriel The Siblings gone so I can't tell Urithiru, Urithiru, So many hallway branches. Urithiru, Urithiru, So many hallway branches. Shallan chase that copycat It's Re-Shephir, lets make it scat Urithiru, Urithiru, So many hallway branches. Urithiru, Urithiru, So many hallway branches. "I THINK HORNEEEEEEEEEE-TER WINE IS GREAT Oh no, I'm Gonna Regurgitate" blarg
  13. I am not arguing that she was not an allomancer. I am saying she was pruned in her visit to the Nightwatcher/cultivation. Basically her ability to burn a metal was pruned and "regrown" to an ability to burn food. Then the "spiritual extension cord" was unplugged from Preservation and plugged into Honor.
  14. Actually, I believe this supports my point. Lets say she is a Seeker (because I think she is but let's not get into that right now). She snaps upon the death of her mother. If anyone on Roshar had suggested "swallow some bronze", she may have discovered something. However, of course, they don't. She goes to the Nightwatcher, Cultivation appears and "prunes" what she can to work within surgebinding. We suddenly have someone with Scadrian sDNA shunted into surgebinding. Wyndle (a "Cultivation" spren) is sent to her. I don't see how this is debunked in any way.
  15. The metal is burned away as a "focus". Much as Lift's carbohydrates are burned away, as a "focus". There are two possibilities here: 1. The planet on which she "snapped" is not Scadrial and therefore the focus is different. 2. This is her Boon/Bane from the Nightwatcher/Cultivation I am not disputing the type of fuel. It is clear from BS that Vasher/Zahel can get the investiture he needs from stormlight rather than consuming breaths. Therefore I see no reason to debate the fuel. I refer back to point 1.
  16. I think the most likely answer is that Lift has a parent from Scadrial. It has been posted here before and I think, dismissed unfairly. There are a number of ways in which this could happen with worldhopping.
  17. I am curious if the cloth Azure wraps her arm with has color. Could the new blade draw the color from the cloth first and this is why she uses the cloth? Plenty of questions unanswered on this one.
  18. I like this idea. I'm not convinced by the Autonomy/Endowment argument, but I think this is a possibility.
  19. Thank you for the information. As far as I know, there are no Oathbringer spoilers here. I haven't finished the book myself. Let me know how to remove the post if necessary.
  20. I've never posted on here before so please let me know how to clean this up if you feel it contains anything outside the rules or if it needs spoiler tags (and how to do that)......Here it goes....... A portion of Odium's "weapon" for shattering other shards is a splinter of Autonomy. Why would I think this? Well, according to "the letter", Hoid clearly has a grudge against Rayse and Bavadin (Odium and Autonomy). The second part (which I can't find reference to right now, but I am certain I read) is that Rayse visited Bavadin before the splintering of other shards started. So what if a splinter of Autonomy is combined with divine hatred to create "self hatred"? Would this be enough for the shard to shatter? We already know that Bavadin (Autonomy) manifests as several different gods on the planets s/he controls. What if this force for self control were combined with a hatred of other parts of the shards power? Thoughts?
  21. I believe aluminum shielding would be cheap enough to prevent any problems. How much would be necessary? After all, aluminum foil is widely available on earth and relatively inexpensive. Alternately, I'm not sure that a time bubble would have much effect on an internet connection (other than annoying the person in the time bubble waiting for the response). Sanderson seems to try to have his magic systems adhere as much as possible with scientific rules and in this case, the change would likely be a slight Doppler shift. The speed of the light signal (assuming relativity still applies) does not change. Perhaps someone more versed in fiber optic cable could give more information, however, I doubt that a slight shift would be able to change a 0 to a 1 or vice versa.
  22. This does seem a bit out there, however I do note that in many of the magic systems we know it blocks their effects. That would be useful for any group opposing Adonalsium. Is it possible it is absorbing them rather than blocking? Is this how power is returned to the spiritual realm? Nevermind. I'm going off on my own weird theory now.
  23. My favorite is The Way of Kings. I think I have read all Cosmere books though.
  24. Hello everyone. I just signed up as I am addicted to Sanderson's books.
