[OB] Dalinar, Lift, and the Nightwatcher
Willshaping Crasher replied to Philomath's topic in Stormlight Archive
I believe Cultivation said "the first time in centuries". So Lift could be over 213 and this would still be a true statement. I know everyone wants to lock down the timeline precisely and they may be right. However, I still do not see Lift's behavior as that of a 13 year old. -
[OB] Dalinar, Lift, and the Nightwatcher
Willshaping Crasher replied to Philomath's topic in Stormlight Archive
Actually, I think you are correct. So much about Lift is unusual that things like her age can get lost in other speculation. My opinion is that she is older (perhaps far older) than most people would like to think. Her behavior and understanding of human interaction are far beyond any 13 year old I have ever met. In addition: Why would Sanderson accept the premise that she "stopped aging" if she didn't stop aging for at least some period? If she is truly 13, then she never stopped aging. -
[OB] Renarin and Adolin (healing wrist scene)
Willshaping Crasher replied to Sun Maker's topic in Stormlight Archive
Actually, I had thought the entire passage was telling: Capitalizing Radiance and pointing out Adolin does not feel complete suggests to me that he is "broken" enough to become a surgebinder. This seemed to me to be a clue to his future development. However, many people feel differently. -

[OB] Renarin's influence on the Diagram
Willshaping Crasher replied to Jofwu's topic in Stormlight Archive
Do we have a WOB that states that Renarin's ability to see the future is due to the corruption of Glys? -
I guess I just don't get your argument against the books. If you didn't like them, why are you on a fan site? In addition, why like Gavilar and want him to be explored? It's like saying "I love the dictator! The younger son, forced by the rules of the society, to follow his lead is the real bastard" Like Dalinar or hate him. However, claiming you want to know more about Gavilar, while hating Dalinar just doesn't make sense. Edit: dang. wrote the same sentence twice. need sleep

If you were Mistborn, what would be some uses of Aluminum?
Willshaping Crasher replied to BitBitio's topic in Mistborn
I would imagine you would suddenly go dark to any seeker. Change course and if you are not in visual range, you disappear. Useful against an inquisitor who can pierce a copper cloud perhaps? Other than that, I can't think of anything. -
Well, if Kaladin or Hoid don't get it back, I wouldn't be surprised to see it in Mraize's collection.

I am kind of curious how fast you could go with F-steel and A-bendalloy(at least relative to other peoples perspective). Also, can you create a new bubble about 10 times per second?

[OB] Revolutionary plot twists of your choice
Willshaping Crasher replied to TequilaJack's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't know. Calderis and RShara (and others as well) are much more informed as to the WoBs. They are quite talented at that sort of thing. -

Lift is Hoid's daughter (she was told he was dead by her mother). Insanity at it's finest. -
Lift and Nightblood seem similar?
Willshaping Crasher replied to tenthfool's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yes, however that is my point. Depending on how you choose to read the events and effects going on with Lift, one can reach almost any conclusion. My point was to highlight just how varied opinions can be. Let me play Devil's advocate for a moment: In addition: WOR I-9 In relation to: White Sand CH. 1 Are they related? Perhaps, perhaps not. It is up to opinion (and on a site which openly asks for theories, opinion is important). Lift's character begs many questions and offers many blind roads as well. To reiterate, one can attach quite a number of coincidences to her ranging from plausible to almost impossible. In addition, her personality to the audience can range from "I love her" to "I wish she would die!" -
Lift and Nightblood seem similar?
Willshaping Crasher replied to tenthfool's topic in Cosmere Discussion
To get back on topic, this is an interesting set of similarities. I have my own ideas on Lift, but there are plenty of strange things going on with her: She converts food to stormlight (possible reference to Siri in Warbreaker growing her hair). She causes the grain in the smugglers cart to glow and flow like water (possible reference to invested sand in White Sand). She is able to locate Dalinar in the Stormfather's visions (possible reference to Seekers from Scadrial). I'm certain Lift is important to the story overall. It is just very difficult to nail down anything definitive. -

A rather obscure reference (perhaps not for this audience though). The real question is if the beak spike contains specialists. -
[OB] Stormlight D&D Alignments
Willshaping Crasher replied to Stormrunner1730's topic in Stormlight Archive
I reckon I'd put Jasnah in Chaotic Good rather than Neutral. She is pro-radiant but she was very willing, and might still be, to kill the heralds and resume the Oathpact, or so was her original plan. Also when she killed the dudes in the alley to teach Shallan about "philosophy". I'm going to go with True neutral for Jasnah. The end goal of her logical approach seems to be to act upon threats much like an "informed" animal. Therefore her alignment doesn't change from other animals, just her level of knowledge. In addition, her decision on whether to kill or not is reasoned, but not in adherence to any legal structure. -
So Sylphrena could be a combination of Sylph and Phren. A mental spirit of the air? I think mental spirit of the air works perfectly. Possibly a bit of serendipity, but syl is a variation of the greek syn (as used in syllable and syllogism) meaning "together" or "with". So Sylphrena, the mental spirit of air, kept her mind together in spite of the loss of her previous Radiant and Kaladin's struggle with his hatred of lighteyes.

(OB) Seeing the Future... and the Sith.
Willshaping Crasher replied to BasementDwellingRadiant's topic in Stormlight Archive
Agreed. Intense hatred is all that is really necessary. How many movies have been made about revenge? Sometimes several every year and they often involve sophisticated planning. -
(OB) Seeing the Future... and the Sith.
Willshaping Crasher replied to BasementDwellingRadiant's topic in Stormlight Archive
I agree for a slightly different reason. I still think we need to consider the original meaning of passion (suffering). Sanderson has a religious background and the use of passion in the archaic makes sense. Think "the passion of the Christ" and a lot of the use of term "passion" makes sense. Passion (Suffering), according to Moash is contained within voidlight. Rayse wants Dalinar to give him his pain. Pain + Time = Suffering. While this isn't necessarily "hatred", they are sometimes connected. Also, Rayse is not Odium. There is strong influence over time as Sanderson has stated, however the individual bearer of the shard can still act. This may be Rayse's personal influence on the situation and it comes out as suffering being the result of hatred. -
[OB] Moash theories <spoilers>
Willshaping Crasher replied to Jensel14's topic in Stormlight Archive
If anything, I think Moash would be a good fit for the Odium shard. Hatred has been brewing in him for a long time. However, that shard is already owned. -
Stormlight Movie Casting
Willshaping Crasher replied to Lord Mistborn Bondbreaker's topic in Stormlight Archive
I wish Bolo Yeung was a few years younger. He would have made a good Dalinar. -
Then we are probably in agreement.

This was what I was referring to. "Capricious, frustrating, unreliable" is how the Willshapers were described by Invia. The description leads me to believe that given their seemingly varied nature, at least a few would say "I didn't destroy anything so don't make assumptions about what I will do, and by the way, you've been talking crazy lately Honor". The amethysts seem to further reinforce their rather independent nature. Just the small subset of humanity we have on the 17th shard can't even agree on many things. I'm not saying they all ran off (nor disagreeing with the root of this theory). I am just suggesting that perhaps some Radiants, in addition to the Skybreakers, made a different choice. As an aside, it would be interesting to find out that Skybreakers started post Recreance by hunting down those who didn't break their oaths and then moved on to proto-radiants later.
-
I agree with this theory for the most part. I do think there is more of a twist related to the recreance to come in the books though. I find it very hard to believe that Willshapers would just give up their oaths based on what previous humans did (likely based on personal bias). That being said, this theory seems very plausible.
