Long Game 67: The Road to Urithiru
Devotary of Spontaneity replied to Straw's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Gears (5): Araris Valerian, Ashbringer, Frozen Mint, Matrim's Dice, Ventyl Ventyl (6): Gears, Orlok Tsubodai, The_Truthwatcher, TJ Shade, Magestar, Devotary Matrim's Dice (2): Elbereth, The Young Pyromancer I'm feeling more confident that Ventyl is a villager than at the start of the cycle, but I'm still going to vote there. I don't really like this, but we'll at least get something. -

Growlery(2): TJ, Xino Study(2): Drake, Vapor Kitchen(2): Lahilt, Striker Lounge(2): Araris, Devotary Garden(3): Mist, Lotus, Elbereth None(7): Gears, Orlok, Eternum, Silberfarben, Burnt, Truthwatcher, Windrunner I personally think we have a better chance of finding things if we split up evenly among the rooms, so I'm going to the Lounge. If there were five elims, we would need at least six people with five votes to give a 50% chance of surviving a hammer, or five people with five votes with four elims, assuming they had been on separate people right before. We don't have nearly enough people to do that. 6 votes on three people is the lowest plausible number of votes on a person, and still gives a 50% chance of losing to a five person hammer. 7+ votes on two people starts getting safer. The good news is the elims probably don't want to immediately win for enjoyment purposes, even if the game did get reset. At least that was the case in LG 55, which I think was the last game with this mechanic.- 421 replies

Long Game 67: The Road to Urithiru

Striker evidently preferred to lynch you over Ventyl, which is interesting for targeting an unknown over a claimed Knight, but I don't think it's less of a self-preservation vote. Ventyl was voting for Joe at the time, and easily could have shifted over to Striker to break the 4-4 tie. I guess Striker could have been concerned with fallout for killing a village Knight, or was worried about Ventyl having vote manipulation in a world where Ventyl is village. Matrim claiming squire does help Ventyl's case, though in general it's not impossible for an elim Knight to squire a villager even with roleless elims available. One protection every three nights against a village kill role is unlikely to be useful, and most of Abrasion's use is covered by Gravitation. -

Sart was a trusted villager despite only having one post specifically because he voted for Striker. If Sart hadn't made that vote, or if Striker hadn't died, or had been a villager, Sart wouldn't be trusted. -

Do you think the odds of finding something in a room is dependent on how many other people there are in that room/how many take search actions in that room? Are you excited to find out what could stop you from entering the room you voted for? Do you think the elims can win by hammering a lynch on the Secretary, or do they actually have to outnumber the village? Beral(like the container, not the mineral, though most people insisted they were pronounced the same) had accepted Tal's invitation of course. They had fallen out of touch with him shortly after joining the Pathian faith, and this seemed a perfect opportunity to reconnect. There would be no hope of convincing him to follow Harmony, that had to be a personal, wholehearted decision rather than one pushed onto others. Perhaps it would be possible to budge Tal's opinion on sharing Harmony's bounty with those held back from claiming their due. Judging from the party's attendees, Tal was further along that path than Beral had been. Hedonist though he might be, at least Tal was willing to spend money on others, which was more than Beral could say about their college years.- 421 replies

Long Game 67: The Road to Urithiru
Devotary of Spontaneity replied to Straw's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I'm pretty sure the arguments are 1. Also roleclaimed unnecessarily as an elim in LG66, with the possibility of that being his elim playstyle. The only roled game I remember Ventyl being in as a villager is LG56 when he didn't claim in thread, but did ask the Coinshot to PM him for a role trade 2. Thought it was odd to suggest majority Radiant, especially to excuse claiming Radiant early on 3. Didn't want Striker to be die D1, seeing no difference in his playstyle and citing Striker's history of being killed D1. 4. Striker voted for TJ instead of Ventyl when Striker had 4 votes and the others had. We can't be sure if Ventyl would have voted on Striker in self-preservation had Striker chosen otherwise. 5. Said he was out of stormlight after squiring, then claiming to have believed making a squire took two charges of stormlight after being called on it. Ventyl's D1 post asking for protection because he wouldn't be able to use his surges after squiring could read as backing up this claim. 6. Asking why Sart was killed when it's almost certainly because of his D1 vote for Striker. -

Nobody's taken the Pathian role yet, so I guess I will. Beral has an unhealthy admiration for the god who made the planet habitable again after the Catacendre, to the point where their greatest wish is to serve Him forever as a Faceless Immortal.- 421 replies

Long Game 67: The Road to Urithiru
Devotary of Spontaneity replied to Straw's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Gears had a vote on Striker until <10 minutes before rollover. The vote was retracted to get a tie, which would be risky for an elim who knows they aren't using vote manip that cycle. It would have been super easy for elim!Gears to 'save'(not actually since TJ cancelled two votes) Striker by voting TJ, or keep the vote without mentioning wanting a tie for village credit. -

Devotary of Spontaneity replied to Straw's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Straw does not inform you of how much stormlight you have, so it is possible for Ventyl to have falsely assumed making a squire took up both charges of stormlight. Ventyl seemed confused when I brought up the stormlight/squire thing though, as if the possibility of squiring requiring stormlight was novel. If this concern can be cleared up satisfactorily, there's much less reason to kill Ventyl. I see no reason to kill TJ today, or tomorrow if Ventyl dies a villager. Probably not even if Ventyl dies an elim honestly because of how willing they've been to kill each other today. Gears; Gears and Striker had votes on each other when it seemed plausible for those to be fatal. This team would require at least one elim on the push to TJ and quite possibly more than one. -

Devotary of Spontaneity replied to Straw's topic in Sanderson Elimination
That's the only way I see for you to be an elim at this point considering how easy it would be to lynch Gears or Ventyl. I highly doubt this is the case. As Gears and Ashbringer point out, it is impossible for you to be out of stormlight if you are a Knight with the surge of Abrasion who made a squire last night. At least one of those claims has to be a lie. -

Wow, looks like the elim team has Striker, TJ, Ventyl, and Gears, embarking on a cunning plan to get each other killed for trust while simultaneously killing actual villagers trusted for their votes. Next thing you know, the elims will be purposefully submitting kills on each other so they can claim Skybreaker/Dustbringer. Does squiring take up two stormlight charges? The rules only mention it requiring two actions, so Radiants can't take any other actions the night they squire someone. -

I thought my vote would be worse than chance/wanted to see if any vote manipulators intervened to save either you or Striker. Usually elims won't hesitate to use vote manip to save someone at v/v, but I thought it would be different in this game with limited resources. -
Long Game 67: The Road to Urithiru
Devotary of Spontaneity replied to Straw's topic in Sanderson Elimination
If Striker and TJ were both elims, it would have been relatively easy to lynch either Gears or Ventyl instead of committing to lynching each other, especially if there were more elim vote manipulators than just TJ. On a less mechanical note, I don't see Striker volunteering to be bussed D1 since he 1. Gets lynched D1 frequently, though a bit less so recently and 2. Isn't evil often and would want to live. Only the squire would know whether Ventyl was telling the truth if they don't claim, and if nobody says anything we have no way of knowing whether a squire was made or not or even whether Ventyl tried to squire. Since the odds of Ventyl being an elim are higher than the odds of him being a roleless villager at this point, it's not that useful for a squire to confirm whether Vently was telling the truth about being a Knight. Maybe if PMs go up it would be worthwhile to tell someone, but not incredibly valuable. I do think with an elim dead and some decent village candidates it's worthwhile to risk wasting stormlight to open PMs. Alignment scans are pretty useful though, and Striker asking about Gravitation/Progression/Abrasion does make it seem that the elims have Gravitation available to kill anyone not protected by Progression. -

As Ashbringer says, if you make a definitive statement like 'we will lynch Ventyl in X cycles', the elims won't kill him even if they suspect he has one of the few village power roles. They'd be more inclined to kill people they can't lynch. If you want to wait before lynching Ventyl, it's with the understanding that you'd want an alignment scan, kill, or squire backup; otherwise we might as well lynch Ventyl now. -

The only time anyone gets information about their action results is using Transformation to learn surges or alignment. Someone whose Transformation action gets redirected is informed who they got redirected to. @The Young Pyromancer, it is more likely than usual for there to be multiple village killers given that KR only get two actions per three cycles and can spend their stormlight on other actions. -
Long Game 67: The Road to Urithiru
Devotary of Spontaneity replied to Straw's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I think Striker's point is that it's extremely unlikely for the counterclaimer to be a villager if the original claimer was also a villager, and that it's more likely that the elims decided to throw away a team member just to get rid of a kill role. However, while there usually aren't multiple village killers, in this game, it is possible for there to have been say a village Dustbringer and their village Division!Dustbringer squire who ended up killing the same person after a redirect in an extremely unfortunate turn of events and utter failure of communication. In that case both claimants would be telling the truth. Edit: Even it that case it shouldn't be an issue though, since the KR is almost guaranteed to be village so wouldn't be lynched if the squire dies first, and a village squire would never suggest killing their knight. I guess there could be a village Dustbringer and a village Skybreaker, but in general it's very unlikely that a village kill role will be counterclaimed whether by an elim or a villager, and a squire regardless of alignment should make sure that their outed Knight doesn't get lynched. -

Devotary of Spontaneity replied to Straw's topic in Sanderson Elimination
An elim will never counterclaim a village Division user(unless it's LyLo), because once the villager dies the next player to be lynched will be the elim who counterclaimed. The only normal reason someone would counterclaim is if they were a villager who knew the first person was lying. -

Poke votes can be a good jumping off point for real votes to put significant pressure on someone, but a train based on a poke can be easily derailed. In a game with roles though, it would hopefully be harder for an elim to redirect a train off a teammate without anyone noticing. Would you still kill someone who, when asked why their target ended up dead, claimed village Division? It would probably be easy to tell if they were lying, since there would presumably have been at least two kills on a cycle where a villager killed someone and even if that was the case the real Divider could counterclaim as applicable. It would be a pretty heavy cost to out a redirecter and a killer to catch an elim, but maybe PMs could help with that. An alignment scanner can do that, but a redirecter/roleblocker can't unless they're an Elsecaller who scanned and then later redirected. In your ranking surges by type post, you didn't mention Transformation, which is what I was referring to. I was thinking the odds of the elim kill being used with Gravitation are at most 5/6, with an elim Windrunner and an elim squire with a 50% chance of getting Gravitation. The odds of Abrasion saving you would be at least 1/6, while the odds of being saved with Progression are lower than that. It is of course possible that the elims have multiple Radiants with Gravitation, but I don't think that's incredibly likely since the other order with that surge are Skybreakers. -
Long Game 67: The Road to Urithiru
Devotary of Spontaneity replied to Straw's topic in Sanderson Elimination
The only way to submit two actions is to squire or spend both stormlight charges at once, so it's not usually worth it to do so. Also, is there a reason you didn't mention Transformation? It seems unlikely that Gravitation would be used to ensure a kill unless there was a reason to believe the kill would be interfered with. Although I suppose an elim Windrunner might be assigned to the kill 2/3 nights in lieu of using other surges, so maybe Abrasion wouldn't help. The odds of being saved by Progression are pretty low unless you're a trusted villager though, so Abrasion is more likely to save you than hoping for Progression. Would redirecting an action to someone who ended up dead be conclusive enough for you to claim the redirect, either in thread or in PM assuming they're open at the time? This could be what PM chains are supposed to be for, but unlike conclusive alignment scans, including an elim in a PM chain would give the redirected player enough warning to come up with an excuse. -
The Art of Game Creation

If you sign up for an LG now, you'll probably have played enough games to run one by the time your turn comes up. The LG signup list shows 11 games already allocated, though skipping ahead is common. What kind of abilities would you give to surges? They're not usually the same across Stormlight games. I had a game idea with this premise with needlessly broken mechanics, but maybe there's salvagable elements you can use. -

If Mint is village, then she will vote for someone other than herself, and that combined with the votes of a five person elim team will be enough to overwhelm the votes of everyone else. It's the same for village!Fifth and in addition a vote for elim!Fifth can never work so long as village!Lotus has a vote on Mint and village!Truthwatcher doesn't vote, as a five person elim team would be able to outvote the other four villagers. Edit: That last part no longer applies, as Lotus did come back.
