I’ve always been an extremely fast reader, and I’ve had to work on making myself read slower. The first time I read Oathbringer, I read super fast because I was so excited and by the end I had no idea what was happening. (I managed to avoid this with RoW by actually forcing myself to take notes.) The caveat to this is that I cannot make myself read if I don’t want to. I was trying to read Alloy of Law yesterday to refresh my memory, (I needed to remember what happened because of a RP I’m in.) and I couldn’t make it past the second chapter. Nothing against AoL, great book, but I’m just not in a mood to read it right now, so I literally can’t. So my advice for reading quick is this: Do NOT try and force it. Only read if you ABSOLUTELY want to. No thinking “well, this is my only free time, so I guess I better finish up that book” or anything like that. OP wanted advice, not weird flexes.

So same thing for just the total number of possible Shards? (2^16)-1? How would you calculate like, the total number of Shard Pairs? I did it manually, it’s 120, (15+14+13+12+11..... +2+1) but is there a way to calculate that in one step? What about just the total number of Shard Triplets or any other number?

Add about 19 thousand digits to that, and you might be getting closer. (Not the number 19,000, 19,000 digits to the end of the number.) But yeah, we’re not done yet. Got a bunch of stuff to figure out how to add still.

Does that include triple/quadruple/15ple groupings and all that? And does it exclude impossible duplicated shard groupings? (Like a “Preservation-Ambition-Ambition” Shard)

There’s another factor I just thought of. Paired Shard’s Godmetals. Harmonium isn’t an alloy of Atium and Lerasium. (But Atium and Lerasium can be obtained from it somehow.) So every single possible pair of shards would have their own metal. And then it makes sense that if we can have a double shard, why couldn’t we have a triple shard? Or a quadruple shard? So every single possible combination of shards, from pairs up to groupings of 15, would have their own Godmetal. (I assume a grouping of all 16 shards would just be Adonalsium.) And then every metal resulting from that could be alloyed with every other godmetal. So, for example, we could have a combined shard composed of Ambition+Odium+Devotion, and then have the resulting Godmetal alloyed with a Godmetal from a combined shard composed of Cultivation+Honor+Ruin+Dominion+Autonomy. I don’t even know how to calculate how many of these there would be.

So I need ideas for a character I’m creating. He might end up being my overarching SE RP character, so I want to make a good character, but I barely have anything for him.
Name: Dr. Aliker
Backstory: Doctor in the Era 1 Scadrian town of Fallion Tears. Then something motivated him to start worldhopping. (cuz I need a reason for him to show up on other planets in other games.)And that's basically it. I got the name ‘Aliker’ from a French name generator, since Era 1 is supposed to be all frenchy. But I have no idea about his personality or mannerisms or speech patterns or anything. I don't want him to be annoying, since I’d be RPing him a bunch, but then he does still have to have flaws and stuff. agajgskslakdjshsgds characters are hard.
I just need help brainstorming. What would motivate a doctor from this tiny era 1 town to start traveling all over the cosmere?

Well, I'm assuming from the time period that he is a lower class nobleman or a high ranking skaa. If the former, he might be a little more condescending toward those that are less fortunate. Of course, he also might have more resources that would explain discovery of worldhopping. If it's the latter, he is probably pretty smart. A lot of skaa have problems rising as high as a position like that. Or perhaps he is a skaa disguised as a nobleman. There are so many different paths you could take this.

Yes, but not to me. To Connie. Who will pass them on to me once she has received all of them. So I can judge unbiasedly. I guess it depends on what aspect of quarantine opinions you’re focusing on. Something like ‘quarantine is/isn’t necessary’ is a very political opinion, but something like ‘being stuck in my house 24/7 is/isn’t boring’ is not.

I like this structure because nobody is actually ever Eliminated, but then it's also not super short. And now, the moment you've all been waiting for, the reveal of the theme! Ah, so it was more of a thematic relation then, not literally copper the metal, or someone literally using copperclouds. The symbols for this are Steel and Iron. So maybe it’s a theme of pushing and pulling, back and forth. Or maybe it’s a theme of pairings, like the pairing of the 2 detectives we saw. Hmmmm...

they actually mean something? I have to know. The symbol in MR43 was for Era 2 copper. I don’t really see how that fits into the plot of MR43, but maybe I missed something when I read through it. I did notice that the literal word “copper” kept showing up, but that might be a coincidence. (eg. copperplate, the handwriting style, is mentioned, and all police officers are referred to as ‘coppers’.)
