Trails of Cold Steel (and the Kiseki series in general)
Eluvianii replied to Zurvanight's topic in Entertainment Discussion
So, apparently, there are a couple new gameplay clips for Kuro and, is it just me or is turn based mildly broken now? Being able to literally circle around enemies to get the perfect angle and all that. -
What are you playing right now?

Playing a bit of Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate I used the magic of challenge quests to fight a high rank monster (Mizutsune) way too early, beat it, and now I feel more proud than I have a right to. This game is like playing real life at light speed, you get to experience failure, regret, fear, and triumph in the span of like 20 minutes. -
If that excludes novellas I probably can't (love The Emperor's Soul). TPBM loves short fiction and long fiction equally.

And here I am, stuck on CS1 for like 3-4 years while I waited to have a place to play it. Darn. Well, I'll see what happens. I want to do this as vanilla as possible but these two do look promising. -

So, I'm mainly a Rean x Alisa guy because at first glance they're so canon it hurts, but I'm starting to notice he has some pretty good scenes with Towa too. Now I'm torn here. -

I storming love Osborne as a character, he's one of my favorite villains probably since the first time he opened his mouth in The 3rd. Falcom doesn't put on any restraints while writing his dialogue. I particularly like how he can threaten everyone in the room one by one by wishing them the best. -
Probably yes. TPBM hit their head as a kid. (my entire childhood is hits on the head)

Wait, why did I never see that? -
YES! Well, I love every kind of chocolate, but dark is my favorite. TPBM already misses winter.
-
Very. TPBM will explain what just happened.
-
Well, to be honest, the most I've talked about Sanderson to friends has been mentioning him once months ago, so no. TPBM has a mental list of topics about what should and should not be mentioned depending on the person.

I was thinking about how silly that sounded, perfect for fiction, when I remembered that we have a real event called the Cake War, so who knows, maybe it's even a real thing.
-
I wouldn't say I dislike it, but I don't actively do it. TPBM will be on the Shard 10 years from now.

I just watched Fate/Stay Night Heaven's Feel III: Spring Song (gosh, long names). I waited six years for this, and I couldn't possibly be more satisfied. Everything from the animation to the soundtrack to the adaptation itself was just perfect. It was absolutely worth the wait.

Yep. There's this noble girl (sorry, can't remember the name and I'm not playing atm) who you meet during every field study and she's always taking control of her dad's wallet, buying expensive silks, later abusing his contacts to get privileges, etc, and I'm kinda curious what this all will lead up to, just for the fun of it. -

Do we ever get a redemption arc for that one girl who drags her dad all over Erebonia spending money? -

Finally, 4 years after the hype, I finished The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild after something over 140 hours. It's probably the most perfect open world game I've played gameplay-wise. I'm admittedly behind the times with those type of games but, I don't know, I have a hard time imagining exploration handled better than here. It can be improved, obviously, but the bases are there now. There's this feeling that disappears after enough stamina and shrines, but at the beginning, when you have to plan every trip, even if you're only going around that mountain you just found, and look for a route because the terrain is difficult or maybe it's raining, it's amazing, really. The combat is varied and fun, I had heard otherwise but really, you can try to play this like every other Zelda and you'll suck at it. You need to dodge, parry, block, and every enemy has different timings. If you don't learn you'll be wasting a lot of food and it's pretty rewarding once you start getting better at it. There's two ways to play this. You can either play it big and move long distances from high point to high point or you can focus on the details, hunting, sneaking around enemies, finding little secrets, and at the end open the map and find that you moved a space the size of a coin. Both ways are incredibly fun, somehow. The soundtrack. The freaking soundtrack. That also has two faces, the one it shows during "moments" and the one it shows out in the field. I seem to remember Andrei Tarkovsky saying the perfect soundtrack for a movie would be the one that mixes with its natural sounds, and becomes indistinguishable from them. The things you hear while exploring remind me a lot of that idea. It all mixes with the world around you. I for example love how the riding music is all in groups of four notes, like it's trying to mimic your horses' hooves touching the ground. And the music you hear during story moments. The fact that exploration music is so minimalistic and calming makes the story tracks all the more memorable. They're amazing, Attack on Vah Ruta is one of the best pieces of music to appear in a Zelda game and you can't convince me otherwise. All of this and I still managed to have mixed feelings about the game. I don't know, I thought I knew what to expect, but that wasn't the case. People said the story was short, I was fine with that. I prefer story-focused Zelda games (there's a reason my favorites are Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword), but this was clearly focused on the gameplay, with all the freedom and exploration and I didn't mind. But it turned out that there was a great story behind this, but it wasn't short, it just wasn't in the game. This turned out to be one of my favorite Zelda stories and it's not in the game. The few characters still alive tell you about awesome stuff that happened 100 years ago. Their diaries feel more like an epilogue because everything happened 100 years ago. The places you visit have stories turned legend about what happened 100 years ago. The memories give you 2-minute chunks of what happened 100 years ago. Everything happened 100 years ago, I was just there to see the ending. Some stuff does happen in the present, the young characters in each main town are great but I feel like it doesn't compare to all the other things the game keeps teasing but never shows. I'm really glad Age of Calamity exists because honestly I would feel somewhat cheated otherwise. Overall, amazing game. Will definitely become one of my de facto games to mess around. I will step back from it for a bit before a second run and hopefully forget some of the map to re-discover it. Heck, maybe BotW 2 will come out by then. It left me hungry for a story but I can't complain too much given all the things it turned out to be great at. Definitely lived up to the astronomical hype I had for it. -
Who LOVES The Legend of Zelda!
Eluvianii replied to Ironwill2112's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Ok couldn't resist trying that. I don't know if I did it right but I flew about 5 meters before the top cart plummeted into the lava. Edit: Tried a second time but with a crate on top. It's still difficult and I still fell a few times (and lost a few carts) but it did get me this so no regrets. Thank you for telling me about this. -
Who LOVES The Legend of Zelda!

I'm playing without glitches for now but I'm intrigued (particularly because I understood none of that (except that the last one probably is making rafts fly, which I still don't know how to do)). -
I found another parallel between Stormlight and Zelda. Actually, it again is between Navani and Princess Zelda, but another version of her this time. Basically when TP Zelda reminds me of RoW when Which brings me to this pairing, which again is less of a ship and more of an "I want to see this conversation happen". Basically I want Kaladin to meet Zelda. Just, any Zelda, all of them have different personalities but just about the same values. I want to see Zelda's take on the kind of reckless courage Kaladin has and Kaladin's opinion about Zelda's imperfect temporary solutions she has come up with, considering he sometimes seems to want to protect people from any suffering and not just death. Stuff like might bother him a little. But I'm also curious to see if they could find common ground after talking.
