  1. About halfway through Final Fantasy VIII I decided to try and break my party a little. Then I beat Disc 2 boss in like 4 hits and I'm now wondering whether taking the tension out of the battles was worth it.
  2. I have an important task for you, but I'm not sure you would understand. Then I'll have to retaliate in full. Call the Squirrel squad!
  3. I think I might be a fan for the rest of my life. TPBM misses school already (universities get way too long of a summer break).
  4. I know some people dislike that because the heart of MH is multi-player and catering to the single player crowd is dangerous, yadda yadda. But as part of that crowd, that makes me very happy. Can't afford switch online. As a random thought, I was thinking hunting a Kirin with a great sword must be an extremely stressful task.
  5. The door that had been cause for discussion a moment ago had disappeared when they passed by the same spot. The leader had said not to worry about it but Ilia raised her hand anyway. "Uh, our normal classrooms aren't going to disappear randomly, are they?" She asked. She doubted it but if they did it would be a huge headache to deal with.
  6. Well, I'm now looking forward to that reread because I only remember the aesthetic to be honest. In my head the books gave a lot of attention to establishing the look of the place, but I don't remember the actual details that you just described, which is why I was disappointed. Either I managed to forget all of that or my mind was focused on something else at that moment.
  7. Slowly but surely working through my Ghibli backlog. Porco Rosso: This one has me conflicted. The movie is like the definition of in medias res. I love it, but not only does it feel like it starts halfway through the story, it also ends that way. It apparently has a manga written by Miyazaki himself though, so I hope that is a bit longer. Pom Poko: I was not ready for this one. You know that feeling when you're halfway through the movie and only then do you realize it was directed by Takahata? It has everything to be a normal kids movie, from the anthropomorphic animals with super powers to the high number of skits. But when these tanukis say they're at war they storming mean it. There's a high number of deaths and they can get pretty graphic. The tone jumps around a lot and it's in general a very bittersweet movie. Earwig and the Witch: Probably the funniest Ghibli film I've seen. Also between this, Lupin III: The First, and in a different style Belle, I'm now convinced that japanese animation has almost mastered the jump to 3d, so that's exciting. The soundtrack is all over the place genre-wise but I enjoyed it a lot. I can't decide if the protagonist is the most malicious kid ever or the sweetest one. And, as a lot of Ghibli movies do, it added yet another book to my backlog. What's more, Ghibli is known for their unfaithful adaptations as far as I know, so I have to read it to get the full experience. Still pending: I Can Hear the Sea Tales from Earthsea My Neighbors the Yamadas The Tale of Princess Kaguya Grave of the Fireflies Probably some others that I haven't heard about yet.
  8. I might need to reread those, because I remember the world building being the one thing I was disappointed with regarding that trilogy.
  9. So, the jewels, credit cards, and cash are all accounted for. The intruder did take some sauce with him though. It would have been so easy for you not to say that. Now I have to kill you.
  10. Look, the witch can be evil, but initially I wouldn't know that. I would most certainly ask her to teach me magic. May get killed after that. Is there a thing you love that you would start disliking given the chance? (as in, maybe you love cakes but too much sugar is bad so you wish you didn't).
  11. Yeah, I'll try to be prepared. I like unreliable narration, really, but seeing it on this level was a bit of a curve ball. They were one of my favorite parts, a great way to relax after a sad ending and to compare your theories to theirs, but they stopped happening in the answer arcs. Now there's just a short message narrated by Ryukishi himself.
  12. Probably Gaz. You mean who gets the least povs, right? But seriously, I don't think I could choose a least favorite. Nor would I want to. Can you find a specific constellation in the sky?
  13. I think I'm myself in all my dreams, but sometimes I have powers so that's fictional enough. Last night I'm pretty sure I had a spell to teleport. TPBM knows first hand that it's a bad idea to spin really fast after swimming.
  14. Finished Tsumihoroboshi! This is taking longer each time. I'd blame burnout (I have already put over 100 hours on this after all), but I'm not sure. I think it just gets harder to willingly come and see how all these characters I'm strongly attached to by now go through this amount of psychological torture. Back in Onikakushi it was fun. I didn't know these characters and it was easy to justify it like "They just go crazy at the end, so I don't have to feel bad about it". Now not feeling bad about it is plain impossible. So this one hit a little close to home. For a story that just repeats itself, it sure can hype up the climax. If I can expect longer segments resembling this Chapter's finale, maybe I won't have to worry about crying myself to sleep after a session anymore . The CG's are great too. Some of these are coming directly to my wallpaper folder. This Chapter in particular had a lot of good ones. Even though the author said the answer arcs would be less enjoyable because it's only answers, I don't feel like I'm getting many. It's like the game gives you a lot of them but then tells you not to trust them so everything feels fake. And it wants you to weed out the fake answers. With that in mind, I look forward to the mind games in Chapter 7.
  15. The original. I want to watch the remake too though. This is great story-wise, and the strategy is really interesting. But the battles at least visually are mostly static ships exploding after a mostly static white line appears on-screen. If the narrative takes a hit in the remake (which I hope not), I want it to be in exchange for some eye candy at least. Niche though? I get that the age can be an issue for some, but it pops up in every "Best anime of all time" list ever.
  16. Nice. In my case my goal is to become a, umm, every-year-school? Modern anime is a given, but on the old-school side so far I have the first Lupin III show, the first Gundam show, War in the Pocket, and I'm watching Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Wait, there's also a theme there... Huh, looks like I'm into military drama. Guess that's why I like FMA so much. On an unrelated note, decided to rewatch Monogatari Series, and I noticed I relax really fast when I'm watching it. Furthermore, when certain parts of the soundtrack play I feel at ease instantly. Is this what people call a comfort show? Also, not sure if anyone will be interested but might as well share this here. I'm one of those people obsessed with documenting anything and everything I watch on MAL, so I guess if anyone needs recommendations, here are some. As well if anyone wants to share some of their favorites, I'd love to hear it.
  17. While we're still on the subject of Love is War, just watched episode 11 of the second season, which is to say "Yu Ishigami Closes His Eyes, Part 3". That has to be the best anime episode I've watched in a long while. I didn't come here to cry, storm it! Well, it's a bit short. Not a lot of activity so far.
  18. What about your mind? When I was 14 a psychologist told me I was 7 mentally. If the pattern is the same I should only be 12 by now.
  19. Dang, that makes me curious about that one too. Though I know nothing about German so I'd probably just leave confused. But dubs seem to be getting pretty creative when it comes to comedies. I kinda wanna watch Komi-san twice because for the latin dub they decided to make plenty use of Mexican slang (is that how you use that word?). While you could make the argument that doing that goes against the source material, it just fits so well. Cases like this and as mentioned Love is War are making me want to go back and give dubs another chance.
  20. I'm so used to subbed anime by now that even trying to watch a dubbed episode triggers a negative reaction regardless of quality. I have heard great things about both English and latin dubs though, and listened to some examples (apparently the latin one canonized Ishigod which I love), so I might check them out once I'm caught up.
  21. "So this is the place where we'll take our classes, huh." At least she already knew how long it took to get here running. "Old or not, it's really pretty." Ilia said, idly wondering how she could make a flowerpot that did run around trying to eat people.
  22. At the moment not really. TPBM knows the secrets of perpetual motion.
  23. I decided to catch up recently so I've been watching the second season. It's really good. Love what they're doing with Yu's character, season 1 was so unfair to him.
  24. "You can call me Randy. Pilot. No one important, don't worry." he replied. "Glad to see you like the design of the place, it was built thinking of people like you." He remembered getting lost in the place and then being told about how learning the layout was part of the training. "You could have escaped by now though, I don't think you could miss the stairs. Is whatever you're looking for worth the risk?" It was a roundabout way of asking what that something was. Maybe too obvious, but it was worth a shot.
