Star Wars Ep 9 The Rise of Skywalker

Many people was expecting at least the same numbers of TLJ though. Since it's the final movie, the interest should be a bit higher for this movie -
Star Wars Ep 9 The Rise of Skywalker
IcaroRibeiro replied to Briar King's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Negativity aside, those numbers are not exactly promising. Though they are good, they still a 17% drop from TLJ. It would imply in a box office of only a bit over 1,1 billion. Not a flop absolutely speaking, but a disappointment relatively speaking I'm expecting a bit better word of mouth to this one, so it may close a bit over 1.2 billion -
What the definition of "fully transfer" you're standing for?

The Rise of Skywalker SPOILER EDITION
IcaroRibeiro replied to Truthless of Shinovar's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I rewatched yesterday. I think that one is very average. It's confusing, convoluted, full of dumb plot solutions and with much more fanservice than acceptable. I would say this movie remember me a lot Aquaman, which I find entertaining but without any major cinematic value. Also technically speaking this movie had a dreadful editing, uninspired locations, dead photography, etc. The only thing I can praise in direction was the camera movement in Chewabacca rescue plot, it was nice, vivid and dynamic. I would give this movie a 6 out of 10 if I want to criticize only the movie itself. However, I really dislike TROS meaning as a final episode of a trilogy and final episode of Skywalker saga. It was so empty, emotionless and the story is full of coward decisions. I don't understand the point of bringing Palpatine back, Kylo was the enemy that was stabilished for this movie, I didn't buy his redemption arc. Why was so difficult giving him a antagonist ending ? To please Kylo and Rey shippers ? The movie also fail in dramatic aspect. Did anyone had any time to breath after Chewbacca (fake) death? Or Leia death? Or C3PO sacrifice (though they cancell it moments later lmao). Instead there is too much time spent on cheap action and blaster fights. There is also a lesbian kiss, which I find coward, it was a way to say "we are progressives, can you see? Please stop asking for Poe and Finn romance". I mean, the kiss itself is alright, but they could at least make it meaningful with more significant characters. It's fine both Poe and Finn are straight, I just don't understand why is so hard to write about significant LGBT characters. Also, about Poe and Finn, I liked their couples, but the storyline didn't give them any time to grown unfortunately. I bet Finn couple was actually Rose, but JJ decided to exclude her because of some Reddit haters who can't stand her, another sad sign of cowardice. TROS is probably my second least favorite SW movie, behind only TPM. I hope the box office do alright, so maybe the next trilogy will be better planned story-wise and with a more clear direction and most important: DISCONNECTED OF THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY. This point is essential, even if degraded the movies popularity, it will be for the best. Star Wars needs to connect more with younger audiences, specially outside US -
Star Wars Ep 9 The Rise of Skywalker
IcaroRibeiro replied to Briar King's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Ok my expectations were low, but this movie is tragic. I'm so sad to see this trilogy having such a rust ending. As someone who deeply loved and supported most of Disney works on SW I must say this is the first time they made a movie I really disliked Absolutley nothing on this makes sense. There are good ideas, but the movie is mostly frenetic action and fanservice. There isn't room for a deeper character development, the movie seems very bad edited too, with very abrupt cuts and confusing narrative. It sounds much more like a Transformers movie lmao I won't say anything further, cause it would be lot of spoilers and I will watch it again on Friday and create a stronger opinion about this one, but only because I already bought tickets because honestly based on today I don't know if I really want to watch this again -

The critics so far are not good I'll watch it tomorrow Edit: I'm a bit anxious. Maybe I watch it today at midnight -
When we look at the surges only, Lightweavers and Elsecallers are ridiculously powerful. However, those are orders from (mainly) scholars, diplomats/politicians (for Elsecallers) and artists (for Lightweavers). Though I believe they learn enough fighting skills to provide support at wars, their use of surges weren't mainly for fighting, but also for research, support, spying and strategic move. As much we don't know the extension of elsecalling, I think it is hard to determine how could them use their surge to teleport themselves. Point is, despite their latent power I doubt they would win in a long-therm battle Meanwhile Windrunners were the base protection soldiers of common folk, Skybreakers were some kind of police force and Dustbringers were probably assassins/war combatents. They sound all warfare orders and probably have a structured command/fighting hierarchy. So in a war, they are the likely winners

Stormlight Adaptation Challenges
IcaroRibeiro replied to Child of Hodor's topic in Stormlight Archive
Mandalorian budget was over 100 million dollars for 8 episodes. And, to be honest, to adapt SA they will probably need even more money, because locations for Mandalorian are generally small/simple, at least so far SA would be even more expensive. I guess with money everything is possible, but who would spend like 200 million dollars in a Stormlight series? Looks too risky for me -
Dalinar and Shallan are very complex and well written characters, and I ended loving both of them and their story arcs. Alog with Jasnah they are my favorite characters. While not that well written yet, I love Lift. She's cute af. Sometimes I feel like Sanderson is really having fun while written about her, make me feel even more connected to her personality and traits Other characters I like are Adolin, Navani, Mraize, Taravangian (not because of his character, but because of his background), Renarin, Evi and Ash (pretty much the only Herald I like) My favorite Pardhendi is Eshonai by far. Excited to see her flashbacks! My favorite interlude character is Rysn. I really like her, I kinda created a sense of attachment to her despite reading so few of her story. Hope she still having POV chapters in the next book. On Spren side, I really like Pattern and sympathize with Timbre, though she never said a word, I find her monologues with Venli heartwarming. Sja-anat seems promising too.

Why would a Herald turn into a Radiant of a order she isn't affiliated though? I mean, just doesn't make much sense for me -
[OB] The Five Pillars of the Stormlight Main Characters
IcaroRibeiro replied to Pagerunner's topic in Stormlight Archive
Will Ash really be a flashback character? I thought Sanderson would use a character of each radiant's order in each one of the 10 books By this chart, she's a Dustbringer, but she's actually the matron of the Lightweavers -
(OB) Most Disliked Stormlight Character
IcaroRibeiro replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Stormlight Archive
I never understood why people find Shallan chapters boring. To be honest, in The Way of Kings I had kind of trouble time reading the part 2 of the book thanks to her absence. The fact she was outside Shattared Plains made them even more refreshing, loved the fact she was there to actually seal Jasnah soulcast and how everything ends, this arc has pretty much the three best plot twists of this book: Kabsal been one of the ghostbloods (and Shallan's father been related to them as well), Taravangian been Szeth's hidden master and of course the most important one, the Parshman actually been the voidbringers (this one was mindblowing af). The story plot that I never enjoyed was Kaladin's. Not because of the character, cause I love him. But never find his chapters interesting at all (except his flashbacks), like it was just him trying to survive alongside with his crewmates, it was the chapters with the least impact to Stormlight world-building and main arc (fight against Parshman and gods). I loved how the things end though, beautiful and even poetic. In the next books Shallan joined shattared plains, so we didn't have the refreshment of seeing other places anymore, but her journey until the city was nice, and even after she finally gets there, we still having funny moments and interactions with her and Adolin and Kaladin. And of course, she still had a cool story arc discovering about voidbringers, ghostbloods and trying to find Urithiru, she was like pretty much the character who made the whole story to progress. I agree her chapters on Oathbringer was a step down, but to be honest I just didn't find this book as enjoyable as the first two. The first part of the book was fine, with Kaladin expedition trough Alethkar and Dalinar trying to be a politician, and also Shallan trying to investigate about the Unmade along with Adolin. But the second part of the book was a bit filler, it was essentially just Shallan and Kaladin trying to organize their own orders with only Moash and Dalinar making the story to really progress. I have no idea why only her chapters were the boring ones, when she was pretty much in the same story arc with 2 other characters (Kaladin and Adolin) during 2 parts of the book. I kinda understand why people might find both Kholinar invasion and Shadesmar arc boring, but not specially her chapters been the only boring ones. -
Candidates For the Six Remaining Shards (A Simple Theory)

Candidates For the Six Remaining Shards (A Simple Theory)
IcaroRibeiro replied to a topic in Cosmere Discussion
At first, I thought of Expansion, the shard with the intent of enlarge and expand. Probably a bad one, seek to become bigger and stronger, and with a bigger influence throughout cosmere. But expansion was probably a subset of the intent of Ambition, that's why Edgli (Endowment) think it's better for her to be dead I also see Faith, Hope, Enlightenment and other related abstractions as different spectrum of Devotion And order, obedience, submission and other abstractions as different spectrum of Dominion Meanwhile, independence, individuality and self-reliance are related to Autonomy Since Wisdom (probably the shard with the intent of Knowledge, Balance and Caution) and Survival (the shard with the intent of Protection, Wariness, Hiding and Running) are pretty much confirmed, I see those shards missing: - Unity: The shard with the intent of putting things together, the shard of connection and liaison. Seek for link and merge the things It sees. Probably lives inside a system with sapient beings and rules over them. This shard pretty much wants to form Aldonasium again, so I won't be surprised if the 4th age of Mistborn would be centered around this shard - Fantasy: The shard with the intent of forming ideas and concepts. The shard idealization, abstraction and imagination. Probably inhabits mostly only the cognitive realm, and have little interest in the physical one - Apathy: The shard with the intent of unconcern. The shard Indifference, neutrality, insensibility and lethargy. Doesn't care for the cosmere, and probably lives inside a system without any sapient beings, or at least don't manifest itself on them. - Freedom: The shard with the intent of having no intent (it's a paradox). The shard of free-will, instability and fickleness. This shard looks good, but it's extremely unstable, destroying things when It's tired of it. It probably have no respect for other shards agreements and is always moving from system to system. This shard is likewise to see its Vessel as an enemy, so the shard "discard" the vessel from times to times, seeking for another one. The 3rd more dangerous shard, behind Odium and Ambition. But It lacks of foresight and doesn't plan things in long run (as It is concerned only with immediate things), which makes him less dangerous -
Great work! I would just put a Major Connection between Warbreaker and Oathbringer

Yes, but he's relatively young, in 20 years he will be at 63 and with a lost of cosmere to write. When age strikes him he'll slow down, it's a fact Also, hope he cares about his healthy. He need to reach his 80's to end cosmere work I honestly love this man. He's so careful about this work, and so respectful with us fans. Always kind and attentive, even make us to know their current writing stages. Honestly I've never see any book writer so dependable before

I find your prediction kinda optimistic honestly. He's getting old, the truth is one time he won't write as much as he do now My hope lies on their books becoming smaller. We have at least 6 Stormlight books, 7 Mistborn books, 2 Elantris sequels, a Warbreaker sequel, plus many minor stories, and probably a Dragonstel trilogy as well. And lets not forget we need to see another 6 more shards, so probably more books or parallel projects Sanderson can't overlook. So lets say 20 more new books plus other possible new series It's overwhelming. Maybe Mistborn don't need 7 books at all, neither Stormlight need 6
