I am getting really excited for Astoria where we can all unleash our monsters of insta-death combat But yeah, without a full PI Epics there would not survive long without being very very clever. Although in Sirens case it's kind of a possible mutual-death scenario, only resurrection Epics can be sure to survive unless we know specifically what the power does. Healing can be outmatched, force fields/intangibility/ impenetrable skin aren't any defense against that sort of attack unless they're at Steelheart levels, precogs would just know they were going to die slightly earlier since it's essentially an automatic checkmate.

Another question I had, how long is the average casting time? (Or ranges for varying strengths, whatever the case may be) Outside the Words of Power.- 314 replies

We don't have many precogs so I like that, but on the other hand the reason we don't have many precogs is because we don't usually know what's going to happen in the story so they'd be kind of hard to write.

If it helps that's an actual condition that even has its own name: Misophonia Apparently mimicry is supposed to help some people, but then for other people it's even worse when they make the noise so it may or may not be worth it -
3 seconds is not a lot of time to hear, realize what you're hearing, find Siren and interrupt or kill him, particularly with what you described as people slowly dying throughout the song, 1 and a half seconds in and you've already half died. There's a few flying Epics around to save him, at least one of whom has a somewhat fanatical devotion towards him, or of course he can parachute out which was the original plan for his introduction into the RP The problem as I see it is that he has Redlight with him in the copter doesn't he? So any plan involving the Panda attacking in melee combat would just end in him getting frozen and captured.

No the Thought town attack is earlier since the MEE was spying on them and saw them leave for the meeting, by virtue of flying the MoNA is harder to spy on. The MoNA and the Corpsemaker attacks will both be later on.

Impact soared through the air, her mind in turmoil. Thoughts of revenge raged through her, an urge to destroy the one who had attacked her. Confusion at her predicament warred with these thoughts, her mind trying to make sense of the rush of sensory and emotional input she was experiencing. A veritable army flashed beneath her as she flew, a flash of black and white mixed with the red of freshly spilled blood. The feel of the air rushing through her hair, over her skin. The roar of the wind in her ears as she sped. Stop! The world stilled in an instant as she sent a surge of power into her own body, opposing her forwards momentum. A flare of pain in her chest alerted her to a growing bruise. Must have stopped too quickly. She mused, oddly calm and analytical of the experience. The power didn't reach everything at the same time. She hung, suspended over the battlefield by a constant exertion of power. She scanned her surroundings, only moments had passed but she'd been carried far beyond the cities borders. Dropping gently to the ground she watched the army pressing against the city guard, battles proceeding both on the ground and in the air. Impact gave a grim smile. I think they might need a little help with their pest problem. Striding over to a nearby tree, Impact shattered it's trunk with a single hit. Dragging it back into view of the army she gave it a burst of force, hurling it towards them. Now of Oregon? Another newcomer to the city then. Did she know about the city guard? "That would be great, I... I need to find someone." Wait... did she say Queen? Of course, it has to be another crazy one. No, don't focus on her, just concentrate. I just need to find Backtrack, then everything will be ok. The sounds from the panda army grew louder again, squirrels, pandas and an assortment of altered animals charging through the Dalles. "Calamity, these things just won't give up."

Firefight spoilers: Siren sounds good but I don't know about the range you've set up. Again an Epic who can kill an entire city like that is a bit OP, particularly for the Dalles. Even with the limitation that it takes over an hour, Obliteration, one of the most powerful, destructive Epics in the Fractured States takes days to be able to destroy a city and he at least needs to be out in the open to gather sunlight and he starts glowing like the sun so he's pretty easy to spot. Siren could just hide in a room somewhere and slowly kill everyone.

Refill stared at the strange Epic, dumbfounded. How? I haven't eaten anything! I didn't even touch it! He glared at the burger the man held, releasing his arm and taking a step back. The Epic continued smiling, speaking in an amiable sort of way. What is his problem? Why isn't he fighting? Does he know? Refill backed slowly away, a few steps later and he felt his power return, the glass began to fill once more. Taking several steadying breaths he met the eyes of the Epic once more. damnation it! Why didn't I bring a weapon? Because I didn't think there was any possible way for it to activate. Who carries burgers around with them? Refill glared at the burger in the mans hand. Years of memories surfacing, years of being stuck in a menial job, no prospects, no chance of being employed anywhere else, no chance of his life ever going anywhere. But that's changed now, I'm somebody now! I've brought together the largest coalition of Epics in the city! The silence stretched as Refill considered his options. Call one of the others? No then they'd be able to guess what it is. Try to fight him myself? But how? I still don't know what his powers are. Run? But then he'd report to Altermind and they'd know. Only one thing for it. This Epic is going to have to die. Refill launched himself at the Epic, hands reaching for his throat. No one could know his weakness.

Still don't think it's that bad, in your example of the jerk from your class all that would show is that you're a better person than another hypothetical person who in the same situation might have committed murder. From my perspective I never could and never would have committed that act, all the misting saw is what another person in my position might have done, that's not invasive of me at all.

^This I believe that the world is deterministic, so someone saying to me "Your life could have wound up like this!" is pretty meaningless.

The ways that Brandon uses the terms in reference to Investiture are only about the way you gain the Investiture that you're using, in Feruchemy it's neutral because you're just shifting it about from one point in time to another, in Allomancy it's positive because it all comes from an outside source, in Hemalurgy it's negative because it destroys someone else's to give you a lesser amount. If a Lurcher pulled a steel bar through another Allomancers head they've gotten rid of that person's Investiture just as much as Hemalurgy would have, but it's still end-positive because of where the energy to do so came from.

Sacletes bounded through the desert sands, scouting for his tribe. The time for the Soratians to journey into the world had come. The desert could no longer provide enough sustenance for them. Without the constant warring with the other tribes over the best Oasis or the breeding grounds for the giant Scantlen the Soratians tribe had continued to grow. The desert was simply not fertile enough to feed them all, not even with the Scantlen, the giant lizards, to help. Returning to the main group he smiled as he watched them, hardy men and women all, even young Jathoras, not yet 5 years old, had a pack slung across his back as he struggled against the scorching winds. They would see how the soft northern tribes in their lush lands would fare against the might of the Soratian hunters.

I'm happy for the Inquisitors spellbook to be public, if I work anything out with Seonid that Samuel can do I'll post that too. I think it's better if characters' abilities are common knowledge to prevent anyone getting too OP.- 314 replies

My age varies between 5 and 85 most of the time But technically I'm 22. Sorry to keep harping on about it, I'm just a very nitpicky person when it comes to certain things, particularly since I'm a bio student. The differences are that firstly Busdrivers entire power is turning things into busses, Pandas power is biological alteration, while I can see how is power would filter his intent into its creation I really only think that works on the organism he's altering, he shouldn't be able to for example think to a panda Become something capable of beating Steelheart and then that Panda loses all its capacity for fear. It should filter to the organism he's altering, not be able to change it in such a way that it changes other things. Secondly a bus is infinitely less complex than even the simplest living organisms. I guess I just feel that it's taking the Pandas abilities a step further than they were described and that it's actually insanely OP if you think about it, an Epic with the power to manufacture diseases would unquestionably be one of the most powerful Epics in the world, he could level cities even faster than Obliteration, give immunity to himself and his own army and just watch the world slowly destroy itself and that's without adding any mind-altering effects like a zombie virus. Which is it's own point, although I love the zombie apocalypse as a genre, realistically a zombie outbreak is near impossible to reach apocalyptic levels, it could infect maybe 10 people before they'd all be killed. Particularly in a city already as militarized as the Dalles. Again I really love the Panda and I like him as a character, I just think he doesn't need things like zombie virus' or giant pandas to stay a viable enemy. I'd really like to see a clever scientist really interested in preserving his army, maybe recalling all his Pandas once they started being defeated, analyzing all the powers they've been up against and altering them to specifically counter certain Epics.

If anyone's characters in the Dalles are just waiting for something to happen we could arrange a meetup with MV and Elsa, other than that my only idea for them is to just try and find Backtrack in the hospital.

The one I quoted was from a Firefight signing this year so I'd go with that one for now since it's more recent. It could be that Brandon's just being coy in that he's 'been active' on Scadrial through some obscure means like sending an agent to investigate it but not actually been himself or something, or he might have just changed plans.
-
Odium has been to neither Scadrial nor Nalthis, per WoB. As for your timeline guesses, from the most recent WoB that I'm aware of Way of Kings now takes place in between HoA and Alloy, slightly before Alloy but at one point it was several hundred years after Alloy so I think it's safe to say Demoux has access to some form of either agelessness or else time dilation like Hoid does.

Refill strode towards the man in the lab coat, his glass still spilling it's flammable contents over the floor. The other man turned towards him, smiling and reaching into a pocket. Instantly on guard for a gun Refill tensed, relieved when it appeared to just be a sandwich of some type, it almost looked like a burger, although all fast food chains had long since been demolished. The other man took in his appearance carefully, holding out his hand he offered up the sandwich. Wait... that was a burger, how in the world? Refill recoiled slightly, his confusion only amplified with the next words. “How do you feel about a Sausage McMuffin?” That wasn't possible, they'd been destroyed how in the world had this man managed it? Swallowing a scowl, Refill attempted a smile, trying to control his shaking voice. "Well thank you, most kind if I do say so." He strode up as though to take the burger from the mans hand, quickly he grabbed the mans hand, sending a wave of his power into him. "Your mistake? Letting me get too close." He said as the wave of power entered the other man. Silence. He... He's not dying. Why isn't he dying? It was then that the silence hit Refill, looking at his other hand he noticed the cup had stopped emptying, the liquid had run out. His powers were gone.

MV watched as her sister flew away from her, quickly fading from sight, obscured by the myriad creatures, soldiers and structures of the city. Alison had just vanished from her life. Megan Pierce crouched down, staring at her hands. She tried to wipe the stains of blood and dirt from her skin, trying to distract herself. Her mind felt empty, unable to think, to plan, unable to talk. Would she ever see her twin again? In a flash MV realized something. "Backtrack" she whispered. Yes, he can help, that's his whole power, finding people isn't it? He can help me find her and then everything will be ok again and she'll be ok. Oh thank Calamity. If this works I'll never make fun of him again. Firming her resolve MV stood up and fled the growing battlefield between the Dalles city guard and the invading animal army. A short distance from the carnage of battle she found a woman slightly older than herself, wearing a sparkling dress and what looked like a tiara. An Epic! From the city? She must know where the hospital is! "Excuse me!" She said approaching, voice still slightly cracked "Do you know where the hospital is? I'm MV, I only just got to town when this whole battle erupted."
