  1. So, I've been reading Aether of Night and the book might shed some light on this question. Sorry for the necro, but I really wanted to add this. Aether spoilers, btw, since I'm not sure of spoiler policy on this board:
  2. I've always thought of future sight as, essentially, a really advanced probability table that comes across as a more 'humanized' version of what could be. Shards can, presumably, feel what all their investiture is doing and thinking, and can instinctively create a map of the future just because their mental facilities are expanded that much. Not infinitely, but a lot. (I snipped the WoB slightly for clarity and length)
  3. Well, maybe it takes a LOT of stormlight to get there. If it takes 50 stormlight units to transfer to and from shadesmar, then it doesn't matter if she had 52 or 99 - either way, that's a one way trip. Soulcasting might take less. We don't really know much about the quantities required for certain actions, yet. I don't think. Could definitely be wrong about that. I just have to say that this was my first time coming across this deleted scene, and I hope it makes it into a Stormlight Secret History at some point. It was really fun to read!
  4. That seems extremely implausible to me. Having the power of both shards that were responsible for the planets' creation would definitely make him aware that there were people there, since all scadrians (with the possible exception of worldhoppers, but they would make up a tiny fragment of the population) are heavily tied to ruin and preservation. It seems much more likely that either he decided not to help, or he was going to and kelsier stepped in in his place, or kelsier was his help all along.
  5. I think that Era 2 feels a lot more innovative, world-wise, after you've been immersed in the cosmere. Mistborn as a starting book is absolutely without match, but once you've seen the depth and breadth of what Sanderson can do, it's a lot more interesting to hear about characters combining magic systems (Wax, Wayne, Paalm, Miles...) than it is to see epic moments involving allomancy alone.
  6. Even if this is true, I bet that the total amount steel in the cosmere will outnumber the total amount of all the godmetals, combined, pretty much forever. The point isn't that they have to use atium, it's that they are probably going to run out of spikes (unless they keep the whole thing restricted to a relatively small group of super-soldiers)
  7. If I were to have a single magic out of all the systems in the cosmere, I would absolutely choose Hoidsense.
  8. I bet metal would be a pretty hard limiting factor in the Harmony Cosmere Invasion Movement - you'd need a ton of atium spikes, unless there's another metal that can steal any attribute
  9. This is also a really cool thought. I can totally imagine her as a viewpoint character who just eats a lot in her free time, and stays crazy slim.
  10. I wonder if there is something of a 'default density' of each material that you soulcast into. A massive boulder, mass-wise, equals a LOT of smoke, but obviously it doesn't become that much. So if there was a default density of smoke, no matter what you soulcast from, it would become (volume x density) smoke units. Same with rock, or blood, or anything else. This would explain the lack of devastating explosions that would accompany soulcasting. Now we just have to explain the issue of missing (or extra!) mass
  11. So did Ruin(or, more accurately, Ati, since at that point the intent wouldn't have been corrupting his thoughts as much) do something similar to the scadrians, or would the ability to burn atium just come from the fact that all scadrians were literally created by the two shards?
  12. Good question. I doubt that it is a perfect conversion from mass to energy; if I had to guess, soulcasting is essentially a two step conversion where you convert the substance to investiture, then convert that investiture to another form. Though, who knows if the 'volume' of the object and the amount of fire are equivalent? We have seen Jasnah perform ranged soulcasting. But that is a pretty sweet mental image.
  13. Me too, honestly. I'm looking forward to seeing her as a woman who has really come into her own and matured a lot, and it will be really disappointing if that's not the case.
  14. That's definitely possible, but I do think that cadmium could be used to maintain an 'optimal' level of blood oxygen. Humans have a range of 'healthy' blood oxygen content. I know that exercise steadily depletes various minerals and nutrients and restoring them drastically improves performance. That's what gatorade was originally designed for - restoring essential vitamins and minerals during exercise.. My thought is that if you keep blood oxygen slightly above normal levels, it will have a similar effect, but I could be wrong. In either case, I bet that a skilled Gasper (I can't believe that that's the real name for a cadmium feruchemist, btw) would be able to store a ton of breath, then use that to maintain a very consistent amount of blood oxygen while doing pretty much anything.
  15. As a swimmer, I can tell you that, at least for certain strokes, you HAVE to breath every so often. Otherwise sprinters just wouldn't bother - it's only 30 seconds for the short distances. However, we do know that blood oxygen content is important for endurance sports, so I can't help but wonder if tapping breath at a slightly higher rate than you stored it (110%-120% of normal breath intake) would have a pewter-like endurance effect.
  16. So I discovered this song while checking out a new artist, TheFatRat, called Threnody. Another google search later, it turns out that threnody is actually a word that means 'a lament,' so I doubt the artist had the cosmere in mind while writing this song. But it's still pretty neat to hear!
  17. I wonder if it's possible for a shard to prevent a soul from continuing to the beyond, actually. Have we even ever seen one try, or do something similar? Other than at Threnody, which is a bit of an edge case?
  18. Man, I keep forgetting about all the neat little details in wax&wayne. I'm going to have to go back and re-read them, again.
  19. Is the discord public? I clearly don't have enough cosmere theories entering my eyeballs from this site alone.
  20. This implies, though, that if Sazed ever became aware of nightblood, he would probably be able to meddle. Sounds like a good Era 4 plot to me.
  21. I really hope you're wrong, honestly. The appeal of the cosmere for me is the possible interactions down the line. Plus, if they've already been to the cognitive realm by the third book, I would honestly be surprised if they didn't spend some more time there, maybe, I don't know, exploring towards the limits of their planet, no?
  22. I'm torn. Part of me says that some metals are useless, and can be safely ignored. The other part of me knows that power isn't that great if it's only situational power. Yeah, I'd probably just swallow the whole thing. Maybe do the trick to purposefully exclude aluminum so that nobody could catch me in a spot like Vin in TFE.
  23. I doubt rashek would be, since he likely burned most of his atium to compound age instead of burning it for it's time dilation effect, and we know that feruchemical savantism isn't really a thing. There was actually a whole post that touched on this.
  24. How do we know they are planning to destroy the planet? That doesn't match up with anything we've seen so far, I don't think. Especially since Telsin is essentially the CEO of the set and it seems like she just wants power.
