  1. Just to play the devil's advocate here, it's a bit more contentious than 'the most likely explanation.'
  2. You can't really compare a fairly basic aspect of cosmere magic and a godmetal. It's like comparing an AK-47 and an ICBM; in this case, I doubt that there is any substance in the universe that replicates the effects of Lerasium exactly because of how powerful of an effect it grants. That's a good point, but I'm hesitant to jump on the bandwagon because we still don't know a ton about Lerasium. It seems a bit asymmetrical that you can alloy it with the base metals to become a misting of those metals if it increases your total Connection to preservation. I suppose that a certain amount of Lerasium alloyed with steel compared to the same amount of Lerasium consumed straight would probably make you a much more powerful coinshot, but it still feels weird to me. Anyways, here are a few WoBs that make me skeptical of the whole 'Lerasium-Connection' theory. Spoilered for length. 1. It rewrites your sDNA 2. Becoming a mistborn is not the 'primary' effect of Lerasium (this hole in our understanding bothers me a LOT)
  3. @Calderis @Spoolofwhool Have you guys seen the flash TV show that has been coming out recently? In it, The Flash does a bunch of running and running up buildings and jumping and such. But they never show him slowing down when he's in the air, or jumping, or falling. In that particular show they would probably explain it away with the Speed Force, if they ever bothered to try to explain it. What I'm trying to take away from this particular anecdote is that 'Increased Speed' can mean a lot of things. In most settings, I assume that it increases your velocity in every possible way, including falling, normal running, and even things like how quickly you can twitch your eyes. In the cosmere, we can try to explain this weirdness using Perception and Intent. Storing speed makes you slow, so tapping speed makes you fast. But what does fast really mean? I'd argue that fastness and slowness are a function of the individual doing the travelling - gravity wouldn't even play a part in this part of the magic. On a less theoretical level, I imagine it like this: any time your velocity would change, it changes twice as much according to how much speed you're tapping or storing.
  4. I get off topic easily. Sorry! As far as the OP goes, I'm torn. On one hand, we don't know that much about how Lerasium works, other than that it influences your sDNA somehow, so it should be theoretically possible (with infinite time, knowledge, and investiture available) to create something that has a similar effect. On the other hand, it seems extremely unlikely that anything from any magic system could create an effect that mirrors that of another system.
  5. Why not both?
  6. Thanks for reminding me. Edited. In that case, there's also the question of if a blade of any single godmetal is any different from a blade made out of an alloy of multiple metals.
  7. This is making me wonder: if you become an Elantrian through Connection to Arelon, would you keep those properties? And if so, is this possibly the easiest immortality hack, given the existence of unkeyed medallions and compounders?
  8. Nothing is infinite. That being said, it seems like Nightblood is fairly restricted to the physical/cognitive realm, so I doubt he'd be able to drain an entire shard all at once.
  9. Technically, it wasn't the day mists or the night mists at all. It was that the release of the power from the WoA changed the 'threshold' at which the mists would snap someone. I could have sworn there was a clear WoB or annotation out there on this, but this is all I found for the moment:
  10. Ooooooohhh, this is interesting. I wonder how it would work - Immediately, I assume, the shard's mind wouldn't be enough to overpower you (well, probably - we know that it can't change your thoughts for a long time). Maybe it's just a tug of war, where the intent of the shard slowly just takes over your own brain, kind of like how it normally happens, but with an entire personality instead of a focused aspect.
  11. To be honest, a lot of what shows up in the OP seems like conjecture. With the exception of the immortality, blow dart catching*, and lack of sleep**, they display no inherent abilities, I think. *I did some research, and it's possible to catch arrows, which travel at around 225 feet/second, depending on where you look. This difficulty boils down to the length of the arrow and how fast it's travelling, but is ultimately kind of possible. Darts travel much faster but also probably takes practice to get it going that fast. So, depending on how skilled the blow dart gunner was, the shape of the bullet (air resistance is a huge factor here), the distance between the gunner and their target, and a bunch of other factors, I could see it being possible for Taln to have caught those with training alone. **Can someone find a source on this? I don't recall seeing the heralds not having to sleep.
  12. These are my favorites. @Extesian thanks for the first one, it's really funny!
  13. I actually think of this situation as more of something like classic priesthood miracles: in order to use the power, you have to 'convince' the source (Adonalsium) that it's a good idea to use it in that way. Which could absolutely be an interesting story in itself.
  14. Well, as far as we know, Bondsmiths just manipulate Connection. Do we even know if Connection can be used to reconstruct an entire shard at that scale without some significant effort? I imagine it's more difficult than expected, since otherwise I bet Honor would have been reunited before OB.
  15. This needs more thought and discussion, I think.
  16. My bad - change isn't quite what they would add up to, I don't think, as much as they add up to creation. Preservation, I think, isn't about maintaining everything as it is perfectly for all time. Otherwise he would have been opposed to creating a new planet. So there is some more complexity to the shard than just 'avoid change.'
  17. It could totally be a thing in the south already, though. In what way was it a bad idea? Did a bunch of people just die experiencing death?
  18. Change is neither of preservation nor ruin. He used them together, like they were used in the initial creation of the world.
  19. I think that if you are a misting and you consume lerasium, your one allomantic power is boosted. Could be wrong about that though - there are people who think that it overwrites your spiritweb, which would result in no net change to that power. Otherwise, I don't see any reason why becoming full mistborn would stop you from being a ferring, or vice versa, in any combination. We know that you can mix magic systems (hoid) and I don't think that feruchemy and allomancy 'take up' the same space in your spirit web, so to speak.
  20. Like @Yata said, it would be extremely hard to invest a lerasium bead with breath since it's already so highly invested. My question would be whether or not a godmetal blade (assuming you find enough lerasium to make one) would function like a shardblade (likely made out of tanavastium & cultivation's godmetal) in any way...
  21. This point of view could implies two contrasting hypotheses: 1. If the 16 shards were re-combined, the vessel holding them would have no constraints, since all the various parts of Adolnasium would add up to, essentially, a normal mind; dealing with the 'intent' of a re-constructed shard would be about as difficult as convincing it that your desired outcome is best. 2. If the 16 shards were re-combined, the vessel holding them would be almost completely unable to act due to 16 conflicting intents. My theory basically assumes (1) to be the case. You definitely make a valid point, but that doesn't change the fact that intents act on vessels in a big way from what we've seen so far in novels.
  22. I'm not sure that he didn't just injest some normal, uninvested gold, though, hence the question.
  23. Thanks for sourcing that quote! That's actually exactly what I mean, though - according to this theory, hoid is suffering from an issue similar to what harmony is dealing with. The problem comes from an inbalance in shardic intent - too much ruin, and you can only do ruinous things. Too much preservation and you can only preserve. Too much of both and it's legitimately hard to act according to both. The only reason that I think that more magic would solve the issue, instead of less, is that obviously Adonalsium wasn't an inactive force in the universe.
  24. I know this is wild speculation, but I think this story will only have one bondsmith. And if there are more, they won't be working for team Kholin. It just seems too convenient to me for some reason, having all the super-powered perpindicularity-summoning badchulls come from the pool of people that is generally considered the protagonists.
  25. I have a whole bunch of questions I've always been meaning to ask, so I figured I'd dump them here: What would earth's cognitive realm look like?Do you know what was magic like before the splintering of adolnasieum? Do you have plans to show us in a future book? (pretty sure this got RAFO'd)You've said that, generally, investiture follows the rules of thermodynamics in our world. So why hasn't the dor spread out to other planets' cognitive realms, just through natural diffusion? How did the sellish group from SH travel offworld if the cognitive realm on sel is so dangerous? Aka, how did they even get to the cognitive realm to leave in the first place?Let's suppose that there is a habitable world (lets call it point C) in between two other human inhabited planets (A and B), such that the cognitive realms of A and B are "adjacent," assuming that it works like that. What would happen if humans were suddenly brought to planet C via a shard or other method, developing a cognitive version of that planet? Would it be a gradual process in which worldhoppers travelling between A and B have to travel farther and farther or would it just one day exist as a more developed realm? (there's an answer to this IIRC)Why does water become solid ground in the rosharian shademar, but not on Scadrial a la secret history? (Still unsure about this, but it's likely that the answer is out there)Is there something special about the ratio of each metal in the alloys? How does a double copper twinborn work? Do you just get super vivid recollections of the memories already stored? Can we see one of your famous outlines? I'm fascinated by the prospect of seeing one of your books, which is usually so rich in detail, be broken down into the component pieces. What is your Myers briggs personality type? Will we ever get SH-style novellas for some of the famous worldhoppers (kriss, demoux, the guy from elantris etc?)What about burning an imperfect alloy makes a mistborn sick?Spiritual DNA is, from what I understand, separate from biological dna. So, since there definitely is something hereditary in allomantic power, can an adopted child (who is unaware of adoption) gain power as easily as someone who was born naturally from mistborn parents? (my assumption on this was incorrect)When a metal compounder burns metal that they previously stored am attribute in, can they use it for it's allomantic effect instead of an increased ferochemic effect? What would a planet look like, in the cognitive realm, if it was composed of two continents that had no awareness of the other whatsoever? In one of the last broadsheets of BoM, theres a lovely story featuring a certain Nicelle. What are the chances well see more of her, in other books or maybe even as an allomancer jak style short story?
