  1. Rosharan magic is relationship based. Symbiotic (Knights Radiant), Parasitic (Ashyn Surgebinding, Voidbinding), Cohorsive (fabrials), Transactional (Boon/Curse).
  2. I disagree. Investing in a planet means gaining access to the Investiture assigned to that Shard in that particular planet or solar system. That's how Autonomy pulls off her avatar trick. The only way I could potentially see H + C having more Investiture on Roshar than the other Shards is if after the Shattering they picked planets based on how much of their Investiture was available to them. But that has problems. Why would there be more of one flavor of Investiture on one planet than another? Was it set up that way by Uncle Addie? If that is the case then the first 16's agreement to go their separate ways was meaningless. Or if it's just natural fallout how do the non-omnipotent Vessels know where to find the planet they are most compatible with? And since there's more than 16 planets in the Cosmere cluster there's going to be a lot of different worlds where no Shard can Invest. What if a Shard picked the wrong one? There's a much higher likelihood that the Shard gets it wrong than right. I believe that the entire Cosmere is made up of matter, energy, and Investiture. The building blocks of everything have elements of all 16 Shards just as they once were just Adonalasium. When a Shard visits a system they see the parts of that Investiture assigned to them as something they knew was a part of themselves both always and at that moment. Brandon of course explains that bit better than I. Anyway, the vessel then takes possession of that power and by doing so roots his/herself into that biosphere. The deeper the roots, the more the planet takes on that Shard's Investiture. The other sources are present but muted because there's no Vessel there to put down roots. I'll give one last example that supports my theory. Ambition. Uli Da and Rayse had a big chull fight. Rayse won but couldn't deliver the coup de grace. Uli Da ran to Threnody and Shattered. She couldn't bring her own Investiture to the show, it was bleeding outta her. It's highly unlikely that she just randomly made it to a planet where her Investiture was the dominant flavor there. My guess is that she was able to connect to her portion of Investiture on Threnody just before she keeled over. Because she's dead, magic don't work right there.
  3. Spren, bonds and Highstorms predate the arrival of Honor and Cultivation to Roshar. Stormlight did not have to be present in those Highstorms for Roshar to evolve as it has. I believe Stormlight came later and Honor assimilated the storm to spread his Investiture. Afterwards, lifeforms adapted to all the freeflowing energy from the Spiritual Realm, finding ways to incorporate it into their life cycle. With the arrival of Honor a new nitche was created. Something filled it. I doubt that's true. I believe that all the Shards' Investiture is evenly distributed throughout the Cosmere cluster except for on Scadrial, a planetary system created by Shards instead of Adonalasium. Honor's and Cultivation's Investiture is more prevalent on Roshar because they fully invested in the planet. There are likely traces of the other Shards there, else Odium would not have been able to flavor his own magic system in system. If Edgli wanted to, she could visit Roshar, invest in the system and create her own variant of Surgebinder. Remember, magic systems are determined by Shardic Intent + Planetary Interaction and the Shard has no real say in the form their Investiture is expressed, only in how a user acquires access.
  4. Only if done poorly
  5. Ok. We know that KR are a participant in a mixed magic system. They all are a mix of Honor and Cultivation, some like Windrunner leaning more towards Honor and others like Edgedancer come down more on Cultivation side. Yet they are all fueled by Honor's Investiture, Stormlight. That makes sense because it's easy as hell to obtain. But it has been confirmed that Cultivation has her own Stormlight analog, though its official name has yet to be canonized. The question is simple. Can Cultivation fuel Surgebinding? And if so, is it more efficient or less efficient than Stormlight?
  6. I can't take all credit for the song. It was on a Reddit list. Brandon was looking for suggestions for songs to write to and I happened to take a listen. My mind immediately went to tragedy when I heard the work.
  7. Wayne is also pretty much putting the girl through school, paying the weregild. She knows that money ain't getting paid if her father was alive.
  8. It's important to remember that for all a Shard's power they cannot withhold power from a user that meets the conditions for using the magic. We see an example of this concept when Kaladin is reaching for Oath 3. Syl straight up tells her stormdaddy that since Kaladin said the Words it's outta his hands, Kal gets the power. Honor may indeed be the check on the KR progression, but I think the process is somewhat autonomous. The power itself knows when a user meets the conditions necessary to advance. If those conditions are met then power is granted regardless of whether the granting authority likes the user or not. Of the people we've seen give Oaths on screen: Dalinar Kaladin Shallan(Truths) Lyft Szeth Lopen Teft Dalinar and Kaladin were spoken to directly by Stormfather. Dalinar is directly bonded to him so that makes sense. Kaladin was the first dude to bond Honorspen in a couple millennia. Furthermore he bonded Syl, one of the first Honorspen created by Stormfather instead of Tanavast. He's got a bond to all Honorspen now. I'm not sure he's actually accepting the Oath, rather he's acknowledging that that the key works. So Lopen and Teft probably get that same treatment, though it could be their Spren delivering the news. After all, when a Knight speaks an Oath there's an accompanying power boost likely related to an opening into the Spiritual Realm. Stormfather isn't the only one who sees this and thus can deliver the news. If the Stormfather is simply acknowledging that the correct Words have been spoken then he isn't unique. Presumably any spren affected can do it.
  9. In the Silence Divine, we learned about Ashyn and their unique disease-based magic. This system I believe is concurrent with the events taking place in SA. But there's an issue with the timeline. Honor is shattered, Cultivation has her hands full and Odium has his own planet to manage and a Desolation to oversee. The assumption is that all Cosmere magic is fueled by a Shard. So who is running Ashyn's magic system and who was running it before the exodus? Odium followed humans to Roshar and has been said to be involved in the events that led to the cataclysm. Does that mean that Ashyn didn't have magic before he showed up or did he corrupt what magic was already there? Ashyn's magic wasn't always disease-based so I'd probably go with the latter. Are there Shards of Honor on Ashyn? Or pieces of Culti? There's arguments for either. But Brandon has told ua that there's only 3 shards involved in the Rosharan system so there's going to have to be more information. There's always another secret.
  10. The song for this story: look up the song All's Hell that Ends Well. It's on YouTube.
  11. If that wasn't the most depressing piece of writing I've ever seen. If OB actually ended that way I'm not sure I could complete the series. Very good though. I remember the ending of Berserk, very apt as far as feelings evoked. You nailed it. Tear porn indeed. Now go back to the writing desk; love to see more from you.
  12. If Adonalasium is a metal then it's going to have some awesome properties. And they're going to work to. We know from Mistborn and WOB'S that the function of Atium and Lerasium as Godmetals were unaffected by the shattering of the Shards that made them.
  13. Just spitballing here, but maybe when one deploys a silver barrier they are somehow imparting Intent. You aren't just laying silver down indiscriminately, you are laying protections. Will is a part of that.
  14. Same with the no musical training, but I think the shifting patterns are good. The switches from 4/4 time to 3/4 are nice although you may want to add one more timing change, maybe 2/4 since she can be frivolous at times? Also, Shallan has seen some really dark shyt in her past. If you are arranging it in a way that plays off of her life story in some type of chronological order then I'd suggest some minor key work in the beginning to signify her mother's death and her temporary loss of Pattern. If you're presenting her in narrative order, you know, as we discover her then the beginning as you have it is fine. Anyway, it's your vision and it's a damnation sight better than anything I could do. If you think my suggestions fit your vision and/or improve on it then I'm happy to have helped. If you believe what I wrote is incompatible with your vision then that is fine too. Edit: That ending! Really think you can incorporate more of that into the piece.
  15. Surges destroyed Ashyn so it's fair to say that humans had access to Surges there. But they had a totally different method for access. Currently Ashyn has disease-based magic system but a recent WOB says it wasn't always so. Still, the spren bond that grants the Surges is a Rosharan thing, imposed by Ishar after the Desolation cycle started.
  16. If Jasnah can do it then Battar, the Elsecaller Herald should be able to as well. Ranged Soulcasting is a feature, not a Resonance. Could be wrong.
  17. Compounding for 1000 years but he still has to store that Investiture. The storage medium, the bracers, are finite. Metalminds do not have unlimited storage. And we see an example of how fast one can run through the power of those bracers when Wax holds the Bands. He's going to have to refuel in a prolonged battle. As for the Heralds, its all speculations. We know Heralds died. We know the enemy they fought and an inkling of their capabilities. What we don't know is how they actually bit it, how many Fused or Thunderclast it took to end a Herald. Logic suggests it had to be a crapload of punishment considering that they ended up surviving Apocalypses, 10 against thousands. It cannot be as simple as one rock monster smashing one Herald; if it was there'd be no surviving humans on Roshar. After all, Renarin also got stomped in that same battle by that Thunderclast and shrugged it off. Unless you think a Herald is weaker in power than a less-than-fully upgraded Radiant. Stormlight IS Honor's Investiture, in gaseous form. The Heralds with their direct connection works similar to Kaladin fighting in a highstorm. And we've seen how powerful a direct connection to a Shard is in Mistborn, how it breaks rules. Vin with a direct connection checkmated Rashek after all. Battar can soulcast at a distance; she may not be able to soulcast metalminds but the metal in his stomach or the vials he'd be carrying should not pose too much difficulty if she knows the significance. All I'm saying is Rashek ain't going to crush the Heralds quickly. It can be done but not quickly. Especially if they get fitted with some Shardplate too. If you think that Rashek just murders the entire field of battle in less than 3 seconds then I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.
  18. Renarin as a 3 Oath Radiant killed a thunderclast with a look. Jasnah broke a Fused with a soulcast wall. Shallan took an arrow to the face and healed. I brought up these examples of the prowess of Radiants, and not even fully Oathed Radiants to prove a point. If these limited people can do things like this then image how much more powerful a Herald with a direct connection would be. You have to remember the enemy they fought had their own direct connection to a Shard and were vastly more numerous than they. Yet they overcame that threat time after time. Underestimating the Heralds in this battle would be a mistake. Now, Rashek is powerful, extremely so. But I give the Heralds a better than even chance of besting him. Why? Because of all the people in the dome the Heralds are the only ones he cannot kill with one punch. And as fast as he is the moment he goes for a Herald, even if he kills the Herald, he has got to stay in place to finish the job, giving the other Heralds time to bring their gifts into play. Rashek can take a punch too but his goldminds are not infinite even with Compounding. No matter how powerful Rashek is he still has a limited fuel source, and some of those metals burn really fast. Plus, if he doesn't go for the Elsecaller first he's screwed in a prolonged engagement. She'll just soulcast his metals away or change their composition to poison him.
  19. That's basically what my whole point was. Rashek is obviously the biggest threat outside of the Shards themselves. If there were a Herald that somehow was able to do all the Surges, like say if Taln swallowed Yelig-Nar, then that would be the biggest threat only because of the unlimited power supply. Since that's probably not an option it's gonna be Rashek's show. If everyone bands against him then the contest becomes more of a free-for-all after he dies. Then you'll have to get the Heralds to turn against each other. A tricky balance since they would be essential in beating Rashek. They are going to be the only people Rashek can't 1 shot murder in the entire arena. If those 2 things are accomplished and we can prevent Susy from creating another Nightblood, it probably comes down to a Rosharan or a Scadrian. Marsh v Dalinar. The Ventures v. Kaladin/Jasnah.
  20. The Heralds can take a punch and have abilities that can negate Rashek's sizable advantages or at the very least mitigate them to some degree. Like I said, F-Steel isn't as effective if flying and he isn't going to be able to maneuver as well as Jez or Nale in thr air. If Taln turns the arena to soup it does not matter how fast you can run. The Heralds are too Invested to be easily swayed by emotional Allomancy. Rashek is smart. He would know the Heralds are the greatest threat. He could kill Susy at his leisure, as powerful as he is he cannot take a punch and can be leeched. In fact, creating a Nightblood is about the only way he can win. Even that ain't full proof. At the very least Vin, Elend and Raoden could safely wield it (well as safe as holding Nightblood gets). The other Metalborn only matter if Rashek dies. And Rashek is a really tough out. But not invincible. He can be killed. He has been killed before. If he happens to die he's taking a few people with him.
  21. Personally I think Rashek would be particularly vulnerable to Battar, Ash, Chana and Taln. Battar Soulcasts walls and obsticles to slow him. Ash could do the same but also makes Illusions to confuse him. Taln turns the ground to quicksand so he can't use F-Steel as effectively. He isn't going to fly as fast as he can run with steel. And if Chana can get a hand on him she can use Division to dissolve his chull. Really any combo of 3 Heralds with a direct plugin to Honor and complimentary skills could take down Rashek given prior knowledge of his skills. Soulcasting is particularly good against him because everything becomes a variable weapon. Division is only effective at touch but presumably any of the Heralds can take a punch. Rashek goes to punch Chana and his arm dissolves. Not his entire body, he's too Invested. Another important thing. Rashek can't leech a Herald. He can leech everyone else but not a Herald. And his power is finite. Susubron is the true Dark Horse in this. The OP said Nightblood himself can't enter. But if Susu makes a Nightblood in the Dome and gives it to Rashek it doesn't matter how Invested he is. He will have died from that particular poison pill.
  22. Well Rashek is a Fullborn. Dude's powerset is complete. If everything the KR could do were combined into one person then she'd be Rashek's contemporary. There's ways to make a person Fullborn level KR but that's difficult, they might not have time to plan it, and some of those methods have hideous consequences. Anyway, Rashek is probably the winner in a free for all, every man for themselves. But none of these people are particularly stupid. Insane in the case of the Heralds, but not stupid. I just think the target on Rashek is a little too big. As powerful as Rashek is I don't think he beats the entire field if they team up against him. Opinions vary of course, but if I were a smart overpowering character I'm focusing all my efforts on getting everyone to smash TLR first thing. That would be the only way anybody else has any type of chance.
  23. The Heralds are represented as permanent Shardic Intervention. And they have unlimited Stormlight. I agree that Rashek is gonna be the toughest SOB in the dome but the Heralds with their Honorblades are gonna give him problems especially if they work together.
  24. Much in the spirit of Hunger Games, temporary alliances are a good possibility. If these combatants have prior knowledge of each other and their abilities then it's pretty obvious that the Scadrial combatants are going to be the most dangerous. Even without that prior knowledge, someone calling himself The Sliver of Infinity seems like a badass. With that being the case, what are the odds that a couple bright bulbs would team up to take on the most obvious threat? And which combo of magic users reasonably breaks Rashek? The next most dangerous would be the Heralds with their blades restored to them. They don't have a whole bunch of abilities but what they can do is super impressive. And as a previous poster said, their fuel source is unlimited. And although they may not be able to quite keep up with an F-Steel user the disparity probably isn't quite as vast as some would claim. Plus, durability. Those 10 together ended multiple apocalypses. The key to defeating them is making them fight separately. Susy isn't quite as helpless as many seem to think either. Although his fuel source is technically limited, 50000 Breaths is nothing to sneeze at. Plus, his fuel is at least partially reusable. With his Heightening level he gains both instant understanding of his powers, perfect control and silent commands. He could in fact probably craft a couple Nightbloods out of someone's swords while in the arena. For 2000 Breaths out of his stockpile he can make weapons that Gods are wary of. Those are the ones you're going to be most wary of. The Vin/Elend combo is great but they're better being an asset to a team taking down more powerful foes than striking out on their own. Their best bet would be to help someone take down someone else and backstab the weakened winner. Vasher is in the same boat as the Ventures, except that they are team players and Vasher doesn't play well with others. Even if you pair him with Vivienda they aren't the type of couple that would work well with allies. They're going to have to hide. Dalinar is probably the only sub-God level character with a chance of standing toe to toe with bosses without assistance, but he'd have to be careful. He's most likely to allign with someone else to achieve his goals and with access to the Thrill plus his Shards he's nearly unkillabe. He's also likely the best tactician of the group. Kenton gets obliterated in seconds. The Selish delegation is useless unless the Dome is built on top of Elantris and even then they're too slow. Their only chance lies in extreme preparation.
  25. Something that might support the theory is pretty much in the form of a question. Why is Kaladin immune to the Thrill?
