Contest of Champions Predictions [RoW Spoilers]
Solant replied to Crossen's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm still entertaining the idea that, even though ascended, Mr T is still affected by the boon/curse, and that it wasn't random but directly controlled by Cultivation, and after being filtered through him the Shard could flip it's Intent based on his level of apathy/compassion between Odium and Passion. That would leave Cultivation with the ability to flip that switch at just the right moment on the day of the contest, handing the victory to the Radiants. it all sounds like a very Cultivation-y plan to me -
Contest of Champions Predictions [RoW Spoilers]

I think Dalinar has 10 days to figure out how to piece Honor back together and take it up, turning it into an Odium v Honor battle. My brain keeps imagining him doing his perpendicularity thing (remember they said this is new to Bond smiths, he must have that skill for a reason other than being a battery for the Radiants), reaching into the SR and putting him back together like he did the temple in Theylan City (adhesioning? adhering? Lol). I just feel like he has those specific powers for a reason. Either that, or it ends up not ever happening or coming to a draw. I don't see Dalinar becoming a Fused though. Knock on Wood. . . Welcome to the board, and thanks for sharing that with us! I've spent many long nights wondering what waits for us Beyond, like the heroes in our stories, because I lost someone years ago similar to what you're describing. I don't have any answers, of course, but I find it comforting to believe that we all find peace at the end when we are free from pain and woe, while wishing our friends had been able to know the sun would shine again. That's such a big reason why I love fantasy and other hero type stories like these. It's soothing to me too imagine places where magic persists, miracles happen, someone steps in at the 11th hour and saves the day. I'm terribly sorry for your loss, and I'm glad you found solace in that sequence like I did. I had to put the book down for the night because it gave me so much to think about. Thanks again for sharing!

A Fused who replaces his carapace with metal? Once he learns how to bond with Kaladin, he'll be the Fused of Steel, Kal-El, defender of mankind! (Who traditionally just makes up whatever new surge he needs at the time, and is almost completely unbeatable)

Kingdom of Wit, romcom where Jasnah and Hoid get married. "I'd watch this world burn to get what I want, and that's some old fashioned heretic lovin' ". Knife or Wife, romcom where Kaladin and Syl get married. Knock on Wood, romcom where Lift and Wyndle, idk, go to prom? :::shrug::: they can't all be winners.

Knights or Whatever, though

Calling it now... The final contest will be that card game the singers are playing in OB, up on the roof of the tower at a little card table. They will have to play cards to the death, so if T chooses himself as champion, his opponent will eventually die of old age and T will win. Done.

I've been going over this in my head, and I don't know if it's been mentioned, but if he had created and stored false memories via light weaving/breaths/unkeyed metal mind coins, and those memories were missing after the conversion with T, then he would still know that the conversation went as expected even if be didn't remember it if that was his plan in exposing his self to begin with, right?

Certain part of the epilogue [Discuss]
Solant replied to LewsTherinTelescope's topic in Stormlight Archive
I mean, you can set a trap with yourself as the bait, and still be frightened when the trap is sprung, because you are still at the mercy of a hateful shard. I think it was intentional because he said that it went exactly how he expected it to. I also believe that the secret lies in the coins somehow, because we know he has access to (BoM) -
Is the Davar family responsible for TWO deadeyes?
Solant replied to Czernobog's topic in Stormlight Archive
I thought that soulcasting devices were fabrials imitating the surge, and not necessarily spren manifesting, unless I missed something -
Certain part of the epilogue [Discuss]

BoM Haha, I did the same thing -
That makes sense, I guess. I had always assumed it was just Radiants who heard the screaming.

While I do like that twist in the story, (and several folks here called it years ago) I have a really hard time believing that no one in spren culture was aware that radiant spren were willing participants in the Recreance. I can understand the honorspren, since it was essentially all of them, but I feel like at least unbonded Highspren would know. Anyways, I agree. It seems to be inconsistent. I had forgotten this scene until you mentioned it.. I'm actually unsure why Relis would hear it at all.

Oh, my heart. I love Teft for staying behind with kal. What a friend. That was heartbreaking to read. Adolin forcing Kal to to out drinking is still one of my favorite scenes in the book. Navani does good work, but MVP goes to Dabbid and Maya. Those dawgs are storming heroes. Dalinar visiting Ishar, Mr God King himself didn't strike me as his most brilliant idea as soon as he brought it up. Something about Hoid and Jasnah feels disingenuous coming from him. Did I read that right? Was cultivation previously a dragon?

For what it's worth, and he brings up his own obvious bias, but I've been hanging around here and have listened to enough Shardcast to feel like I can trust @Chaos review and avoid others for the sake of spoilers. Personally, and I try to do this with every new book we get, I'm going to keep expectations reasonable even though I am super excited, remind myself that there's probably something that might not land right for me somewhere in the book but that's ok, and trust in the author's long game since we are nearing the end of the first arc. I'm sure there's allot of plot that needs to tighten up in order for book 5 to stick the landing and really blow our minds.

Hey guys. I wasn't sure where to post this, but for those of you like myself who didn't get in on the kick starter, Dawnshard is up in the Kindle store now with a pre-order date of the 10th. $7.99 USD

Laral has kids. A "Young Avenger" style team-up in the back 5 with Lift, Oroden, Cord, Laral's kids, and Shallan/ Adolin's kid(s), and Gavinor is the adventure Novella I never knew I needed until now.

I still find the idea of Super Bondsmith Abrasion causing an enemy army to fall and slide down a hill or something hilarious.

I think it's totally a scholarly thing. She's a historian and he's been alive for thousands of years. His info is way better than anything the heralds are giving her. That's not to say they can't develop a friendship, but I have a hard time seeing him become close with anyone

I agree that the oaths are strictly Honor, but the Fused are originally Singers, who were of Honor, so the oaths could be something that Odium co-opted when making the fused. The oaths could actually be identical with just a very different interpretation than the KR. I don't really believe it, since they lack spren bonds that we know of (I'm not convinced they don't bond voidspren or corrupted spren yet) but it's something to consider. Plus, the fused would have to predate the KR oaths since the KR were probably created in response to them. You can ignore me talking now.
-
I think the short version is too keep our main protagonists separate/ more powerful/ distinct/ more interesting from the hordes of average KR we will undoubtedly have by the end. I enjoy this line of thought, though Depending on how Adolin's arc turns out, I could see him on this list as well

Rabonial, Lady of Wishes, sounds like a Dark Souls boss.

I wasn't thinking he would force it, but more create a pathway to achieve it. His spren is the storm father, who's to say he wouldn't accept the words etc.
