Happened to a coworker. He didn't do a little bit but a huge spoonful of it.

Context: Lots of Americans think slavery is only a black issue but they don't bother to look at the whole picture and see the very noticeable presence of pale skinned people in there. The Jew image I tend to conjure up is the Ashkenaz Jew which is pretty white to me. I know Jews come in many shades, but the Ashkenaz are the first to pop into my head when I think Jewish people. The Israeli really wants to confuse people with that naming convention don't they? I've never heard Bob being short for Barbara, only Barb. Also when I used Bob I wasn't doing the nickname version and was using the trope known as Alice and Bob. Glad to bring you childhood joy Exactly! I'm surprised more people aren't getting into accidents. Washing them after a couple weeks? What is the recommended bedding washing protocol? But in this instance it's more the way she just harps about it like she caught me reading a pron magazine back in the 80's. I don't get the zed reference. You know, before I ever heard the British pronunciation of z the only Zed I knew of was Lord Zedd from Power Rangers.

Random Stuff X: Something Weird
Draginon replied to marsoupial's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Welp, one of my mom's brothers died. I don't really know any of them so I don't feel that sad about it. What makes it bad is how my mom is taking it. She purposely cut ties with her brothers after my grandma died and continually talks about how 'twisted' they are, especially for not letting her know when her father died and she found out a month later from a cousin via email. This time she's blaming email completely since that was how she found out this time as well and got mad when my sister didn't pick up the phone to see if she knew. I will never understand my mom's feelings towards her family. Edit: My sister called after I submitted this. She hadn't heard but she doesn't keep in touch with them after they refused to tell her where grandpa was buried. My mom vented to her about finding this stuff out through email and my sister gave her the cold hard truth, "Who would call you?" since she cut all ties to that side of the family almost 20 years ago so no one will ever call her on this stuff since she doesn't care enough about them to begin with. Pretty much if you cut yourself off you probably don't deserve to know anything about them if you get upset about not being the first one notified about anything. -
Brandon Sanderson Cinematic Universe? (BSCU)

Brandon Sanderson Cinematic Universe? (BSCU)
Draginon replied to MistbornAlpaca's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I don't think Disney would be a good fix for adapting Brandon's Literature Universe (look what they did to Narnia and that was a simple universe) since the main studio would want to make too many changes to give the stories the Disney treatment, so if they did Mistborn I doubt they'd have Elend and Vin die at the end and Elantris would not have the Elantrians look zombie like and instead suffer the Phantom of the Opera treatment. On top of all that a lot of the religion stuff would be drastically downplayed and faith is a big theme in the Cosmere (Elantrians being revered as gods, the god culture of Warbreaker, the religion of Hrathen, the Shards, etc) so it'd lose something. I don't know which major studio would be a good fit for either producing or distributing but the books are so cinematic a studio would have to mess up big time to not do these books justice. -
ManOnTheInternet has been uploading the Undertale the Musical Genocide Package for the past month and they released song 6/10 and it is awesome. The first 3 (dad Ruins, sad version of Heartbreak and sad version of Snowden Town for Papyrus' death) were tearjerkers, Fight Against a True Hero was heroic and sad, song 5 (CORE with different lyrics) was sad to listen to but this is the first to not be melancholic until the very end. Theres four more songs left and I'm trying to figure out which songs they'll be. Megalovania and Asgore with different lyrics are sure to be in there, it's just the other two I'm trying to figure out since they aren't going to use Megalo Strike Back or Dark, Darker, Yet Darker since they aren't from the game itself and we're assigned to Chara and Gaster by the fanbase.

What are you playing right now?

Just finished Lego Dimensions. It didn't register 3 gold bricks (those dang glitches strike again) but I am pretty much 100% done now. My favorite worlds in the game had to be Beetlejuice, Gremlins, Chima, Oz, Doctor Who, A-Team, Mission Impossible, Harry Potter and both Ghostbusters worlds. My least favorite worlds were Lego Movie (felt empty despite having every major location), LOTR (didn't fully encompass the trilogy in terms of locations and characters), Knight Rider (a Vegas street with 6 casinos surrounded by a huge desert area?!), BTTF (love the movie but they made the world way too tiny by focusing only on the courtyard and didn't even include 1955) and Jurassic Park (those bricks were so hard to find that I had to resort to a walk through to find them all) -
I don't like audiobooks myself, I end up zoning out after a few minutes. Have you thought of going to the store and seeing if there's a copy to buy?

@Mrs. Delightful Ferring You seem like a... Wonder Woman -
Just finished HOA. I liked the book quite a bit, even the ending. I skimmed through the Arcanum since there wasn't much new entries and I didn't need book summaries of the first two. My overall thoughts will be in spoiler tag just in case a newcomer reads this Now I'm going on a small break from my Sanderson-a-thon to read Five Nights at Freddy's The Silver Eyes in celebration of October.

I live in the Dallas area. I would love to live in Florida though. I'm a guy so... But my sister doesn't get along with her either and has gone past the end of her rope. I've talked more in length with my gf about how my mom is and even she can't understand her (she lives in Denmark so I am getting a different cultural opinion there) and she has her own problems with her parents but we both can see where they're coming from on their issues concerning her (like not wanting her to watch horror films because they want her to be a good young lady or to not forget her heritage and ancestors since she's not European by ancestry) To show just how twisted my mom's logic can be, she claims I'm autistic (I don't believe it's real tbh) even though I don't show the symptoms associated with it. Like I'm an introvert with some social interaction problems but when you got bullied in school for no reason it'd be amazing not to have some form of social interaction problems.

I'm up in Fort Worth for a conference my mom just had to come to but because of the time they want people to be there plus morning traffic it was easier to stay by the place. The big problem is the school region centers are never in good neighborhoods, always in the run down/ghetto portions of the city they are in so you have to deal with terrible restaurants in the area, even chain restaurants have poorer quality in these areas. Anyway as we were packing my mom got everything out of the bathroom so I started piling up the towels, she wastes every single towel by putting them on the floor instead of saving them for a couple days like a normal person, to save her from doing. Is she grateful? NOPE! She made me pull one towel out for her to walk on just so that she could wash her hands, but that was after she hesitated to figure out why she wasn't done in there so it was just an excuse on her end. It's like nothing I ever do for her is ever the right thing to do, which makes me not want to do anything for her at times and then she wonders why I'm 'lazy' and don't do things for her. She even thinks I'm thoughtless when it comes to her. Here's a small act of thoughtfulness to show how different we are, when we get drinks at a fast food restaurant I grab two straws (one for me and one for her) while she gets a table but she'll grab one for herself anyway, if she gets the straws while I get a table she'll only grab one straw making me have to get my own. Who's the thoughtless one in this case?

There are jobs that give sabbatical leave, it depends whether it's paid leave or not, so it's not just school related. My gf is currently in college in Copenhagen and she's told me she wants to do one to the states once she graduates since she wants to see the states so much. Doing this with her would also give me a chance to spend time with her since we're an online couple at this point.

I'm kind of hoping to finish HOA this week, have two workshop days that don't do anything for me so I spend the day reading, so that I can start my spooky reads for October. In other news, I've been thinking the last couple days to do a sabbatical with my gf in a couple years and I'm trying to figure out how many books I would need for the trip since there would be planes, trains and buses trying to get everywhere. It's almost like I would need a whole suitcase just for books. I'm thinking this would be during August to November or December.

Yup. It goes: Honor the Texas flag, I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, One State under God, one and indivisible Pretty pretentious really. Also the "one state under God" wasn't in there when I was in school so it's a recent change. -

Yeah, I just don't see the big deal over how people act during either the anthem or pledge. For a while in school I didn't do the pledge since it wasn't a priority to me, even now as an adult it's not a high priority especially the Texas pledge (is Texas the only state where they want people to pledge allegiance to their flag???) which I don't do because Texas is not where my heart lies at all. -

And it's not like they're flipping off at the flag, just showing respect in the same way one would to a monarch. I also read an article on things people do all the time that are more disrespectful to the flag than this minor thing. Pretty much the flag rules say no wearing a flag, buh-bye flag bikinis and shirts!, no using it for advertising, good luck beer companies!, no displaying it flat, it has to be horizontal at all times unless being properly disposed of, and no throwing away of anything with the flag on it, so don't even think of throwing away your Fourth of July flag decorations or plates! -

Draginon replied to marsoupial's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
This whole 'sports teams are being disrespectful to the flag by kneeling' is getting stupid. I had to look it up and standing is more a recommendation than a hard rule. My mom thinks it's disrespectful because "you have to be standing and singing" so in a roundabout way she's saying the mute and paraplegic can never show respect. Mostly I think her problem here is more that the team being blasted, the Dallas Cowboys, are black (I'm not a sports fan so I'm not sure if they are all black or are a mixed team) and she is one of those people who find anything a black person does disrespectful. In less bleak news I'm thinking of maybe doing a sabbatical. I'm thinking of going to Europe, East Asia and doing parts of the States. I'm thinking to pair up with my Danish girlfriend for this since she wants to do a sabbatical as well, though mostly to see the States, so it could be be something fun to do. -

I haven't started reading any of them, that'll be sometime after I finish catching up with Brandon "slow down!" Sanderson, so I'm not sure how sudden the end itself is, whether it just ends or hints at another book coming eventually. -

It's both, Colfer was commissioned to write a continuation to finish the story. From what I've heard though it ends in a cliffhanger so there's still no ending at this point. -

Was at Fencon over the weekend. For those who don't know it's a general fan convention with a focus on writing. There's always this one guy in the dealer room selling old books and I got quite a haul from him. A missing adventure featuring the 3rd Doctor An adventure featuring the 8th Doctor An adventure featuring the 7th Doctor. I don't really dig the covers from the 80's but so many of these old Doctor Who books can only be brought used so I'm looking past the ugly covers most of the books have. Another adventure featuring the 8th Doctor Another missing adventure with the 3rd Doctor A past adventure featuring the 1st Doctor An adventure with the 7th Doctor featuring an ugly cover A novelized (the original is audio) adventure featuring the 3rd Doctor. Another 7th Doctor adventure with an ugly cover. This is the most expensive of the Who's I bought Another 7th Doctor adventure. Yes it's ugly. Yes she's nude. No I don't know why she's sticky. Another adventure with the 8th Doctor. My most expensive buy at $20, Harry Dresden himself. The guy was selling another, I think it was book 6, but he was selling it for $70! Finally getting around to everyone's favorite wizard for hire. A little story here, the guy selling was telling me the difference between 1st and 2nd Editions with Dresden, since this is apparently a 2nd edition, but I nicely let him know I'm not that interested in whether it was first edition or not. Bought this from Kevin Anderson's table. He had other Star Wars books but by the time I bought this it was the only title remaining. This was a free book left on the advertisement tables. Already owned the rest so I figured why not? My Doctor Who book collection is small at the moment (I don't have any classic books with the 2nd, 4th, 5th or 6th Doctors at all but I do have new books with all them except the 5th unless one counts the short story collections) but I'm working to grab every single title from New Adventures (7th Doctor only titles), Eigth Doctor Adventures, Missing Adventures (1st-6th Doctors since it was concurrent with New Adventures) Past Doctor Adventures (1st-7th Doctors since it was concurrent with Eighth Doctor Adventures) and New Series (9th-current Doctors) along with any modern special release books.
