Granted, but you will never be able to use the zincmind since you'll be deathly allergic to zinc I wish to be able to read faster -
@Angsos I just saw that on Reddit. I haven't read anything by Dan yet but I'm happy AG will be coming after all!
-
You know on the Reddit I had seen someone ask if Brandon would ever do something Star Wars related. I doubt he'd do that, he'd have to write it the way Disney wants and all, but it definitely would be something to consider a secret project.
-
Well I'm nearly done with WOK, in the middle of part 4 before the big battle, and I can see some things to talk about with the upcoming flashback characters. Like with Jasnah the reason she got interested in researching the Voidbringers and Urithiru, unless it's explained in the next two books. Also it'd be pretty neat if Brandon did some flashback novellas to fill out more with Kaladin, Shallan and Dalinar, especially if something major comes up with these guys in the later books that wasn't talked about in their books.
-
@TheOrlionThatComesBefore That makes it even worse as well. Like could you imagine if Brandon hadn't revealed Vin's father towards the beginning of the book and people speculating it being Kelsier or the Lord Ruler? It's only acceptable to me if the author/script keeps pointing towards who it is and then pulling a 180 on it by treating it as a 'red herring' without knowing what that even means. What's funny with me is I do have my own head canons but I will throw it away if it turns out not to be true. Like before I ever started reading Way of Kings I had heard some stuff about the ethnicities and the cityscapes so I had my own idea what it would look like but once I started reading I didn't get upset about it reading differently from what I imagined. I haven't started any of Ice and Fire, want to finish reading Brandon's stuff before diving in there, so I don't really know about what issues are outside of people being upset over certain characters dying. I have issues of my own with Star Wars and for me that's the direction of the spin off films. I'd rather they tell new stories that don't involve any of the characters and events in the three trilogies while relegating new stories involving the trilogy characters to the books and comics. But I'm not in charge of this series so I'm choosing which films I'd rather not waste my time with and read the novelization and which films actually sound like a movie instead of an adaptation of a yet to be released book.

Here's a literary/cinematic trope that gets on my nerves: they mentioned their parents but didn't say who they were? Important!!! It gets so annoying when fans assume the heroes, or anyone, unnamed parents have to be vastly important to the overall plot. Whenever I see people speculating all I think is 'who cares who their parents are? Can't they just be random people who just happened to birth the chosen one?' Heck I haven't seen Star Wars 8 yet but I got spoiled on the Rey's parents one and it was one of my two ideas of who they were: either students of Luke's or just nobodies who happened to have a Force sensitive child and what do you know, I was right! Most of this peeve stemmed from the whole 'Who is Jon Snow's mother?' question that got on my nerves. Before that got revealed on the show I didn't really give a flip who she was, especially when it was put up as high as 'who will win the Iron Throne?' and 'when will winter arrive?' So unless George pulls a retcon I'd say that stupid question is finally over now.

It would be nice if it was Bastille so that that series could be finished. If it's something Cosmere I think it would just be a short story or a novella, either of a world we've seen or a minor world from one of the remaining Shards since there's still 6 we don't know where they are. The only full novel I could see it being though is W&W4 and that would mean he started that early with a spring 2019 release planned. And it'd be the greatest prank ever, especially if he didn't let anyone, including Peter, know about it being a prank on us. I could see a story like this being a story about scientists trying to prove something exists but have to keep it secret from their bosses because it's something too crazy to think it could be real.

Random Stuff X: Something Weird
Draginon replied to marsoupial's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Well Saban announced next year's Power Rangers and it's definitely weird to me. It's called Beast Morphers and it's adapting... 2012's Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters. It's weird since they skipped it in favor of doing Dino Charge so this is the first time they've ever gone back to an unadapted season. -
My guess on it is something we don't know about. I would like to think if it's something that's a known Cosmere, like Lost Metal and Nightblood, it'd be under that title unless he wants to surprise us. It would be funny if it wasn't a single project but a bunch of small projects being done together that wouldn't warrant being on the list separately. But could you imagine if Brandon decided to troll us all by having a book actually titled Secret Project one day after seeing it a few times?

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Draginon replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
I'm getting sick of Onstar's service. A couple years ago I had needed to get them to activate the wifi just for the month since I was going to a conference and had some coworkers traveling with me and they would need it for when using their laptops since their phones weren't linked to their work emails. I got the bill that month but when I got the next months bill they had charged me for another months use of wifi. I disputed and thought everything was fine until the next month where they charged me again! It was such a hassle to get them to stop charging my card it was ridiculous. Now the problem is with my moms car. They keep shutting her service off and they keep saying she needs to renew, which she had already done before they started shutting it off back in November. Every time she calls to ask why they shut her service off they always ask if she's calling about my car, or sometimes about my old car that got totaled by a rogue transmission in the road at least 4 years back, and it's getting annoying by this point on that part. Every single time she calls they reroute her to someone else multiple times so she has to go through the spiel over and over. Tonight we've spent two hours trying to deal with them, getting through a dispute with the bank and getting them to reimburse my moms account for the money they keep taking to 'activate' her service. If they give us another big headache I would so give them the heave ho and do without their services. -
Since we all kind of know who the flashback characters are it's going to be interesting what parts of their lives will be covered in their book. Pretty much this is just going to be us speculating how far back we think it'll go. Eshonai: I think it'll probably cover her life leading up to Gavilar discovering her people, her life during the Vengeance Pact and what she was doing during WOK (unless some of this was already revealed in WOR and Oath which I've yet to read) Szeth: I think it'll show his life before becoming Truthless, the circumstances why he became Truthless and what he was doing between that and the WOK prologue Jasnah: I'm not sure what could be covered but I'd guess her childhood, anything not covered during the Dalinar flashbacks, when she's off screen in the first five books and whatever happened to her in the gap years. Lift: Now this one will be tricky since she's got multiple interludes and a novella showing her actions during the front half so unless the future interludes, and the mentioned possible upcoming novellas about her, show more of her past my only guess is what she was up to in the gap years Renarian: I have yet to read Oathbringer so I don't know how much he features in Dalinar's scenes but it'd be whatever he was doing in the gap years Taln and Ash: These two are going to extremely interesting since they've been alive for 4500+ years so we could get anything from why they became Heralds, what life is like in Damnation, seeing more of the Desolations, what Ash was doing from the Oathpact breakage onwards and even seeing what exactly made the Heralds call it quits

Was watching the recording of the opening ceremonies of the Pyeongchang Olympics and my mom pretty much became the female example of "oh there's grandpa spouting racist stuff" which gets on my nerves. She couldn't understand why the two Koreas were going under a unified flag and said those athletes from NK would be under guard at all times so as not to 'corrupt' the other athletes and she couldn't understand why Kim Jong-Un didn't smile for the athletes during the parade when she was waiting to see her people walking through the stadium. When the commentators were giving their commentary on Korea she was all 'Who cares!' and fast forwarded to the post parade performance. She also couldn't understand the country order at all. I had looked it up and told her it's in order of the Korean alphabet but she still couldn't understand why the US was in the M's with the B's coming next. For context USA is called Mi Guk so makes sense to come after Mong Al in Korean. Pretty much she does this stuff when East Asia and the Middle East are concerned since she, for some reason, has a low opinion of both these regions. The Middle East I can understand because of 9/11, I've gotten over that years ago so I don't blame Middle Eastern people for that at all, but the Asia part is completely unwarranted. She tries to use Tianamen Square and North Korea's craziness as her reason but that doesn't give a good reason to include Japan, Hong Kong, Mongolia, Indochina and Singapore since she never uses Vietnam War, Korean War and WWII as reasons to hate them. What makes her attitude really sad is she sometimes talks about when she was young and she was very much the opposite of being racist. She gets upset about black folks to the point that she'll use derogatory names to describe them, but never to their face, but when she was a little girl she was one of the few white kids who would be friends with black kids and even invited them to swim in their pool. The racism here is not something she got from her parents because they were the type to be passive aggressive towards the racists, like when someone complained to my grandma about having black kids in her pool she would say 'Why? Is something going to wash off?' as her passive way of saying 'It's my pool and I'll let anyone I want to swim in it so it's none of your business', so it's something she learned as she got older. Kind of sad when someone is accepting of others when young but unaccepting as an adult. Because of her general attitude I'm conflicted over whether to have her meet my gf or not since she's most definitely not white. The only things that surprised me over the ceremony itself was seeing Kosovo having a team considering how Serbia is about them applying for everything like EU, UN, Eurovision and independence and also VP Mike Pence not standing up for the Korean team. That is pretty disrespectful not to stand and cheer for the host nation of the Olympics. It'd be like if when the LA Olympic Games comes around and nobody stood and cheered our team.

[OB] Why Odium and Roshar are Keys to Entire Cosmere
Draginon replied to 1stBondsmith's topic in Cosmere Discussion
@Belzedar What if Odium is a big bad? I mean what if there's more than one but it's a case of grey and gray mixed with blue and orange morality? That could bring the potential of some other characters being considered villains as well for the stuff they do to the planets during the later events of Roshar and Mistborn in SPACE!!! such as 'good' shards, and maybe even Hoid, being more destructive than we thought. Heck maybe all the shards get reunited back into Adonal but we could learn maybe it was better he was shattered than left alive. I mean Brandon is about overturning our expectations so maybe A isn't nice at all. -
@Jofwu I know there isn't much overlap right now, the only ones currently being Secret History with WOA and HOA, but who knows with the future releases, especially if the 20's version of the Mistborn world gets written so who knows if that'll be overlapping the later Stormlight books. Anyway for a while I thought it'd be very interesting to read the entire Cosmere in order by a chapter by chapter basis so it'd probably involve a bit of book swapping at some point, especially in the Stormlight books for obvious reasons. As for Dalinar's visions I'd just place them when he experiences them since we experience it through his eyes, not the eyes of the person at that point in time, same with any anecdotes of history we learn. Of course this brings to question the epigraphs if we read them when they technically take place or with the chapter, like we read the WOA epigraphs followed by the Final Empire epigraphs then start reading the Kelsier short story of him learning to harness his Mistborn abilities followed by the first book. Seeing as I haven't gotten to the AU yet does something there establish when Silence takes place relative to the other books for that timeline you posted to suggest it's between Warbreaker/Nightblood and Roshar? It's also interesting how so many of these world's existed for ,roughly, the same amount of time and yet Scadrial is more 'advanced' than Roshar is while Sixth is in the space age but is relatively primitive in comparison from what I know of that story. I've mostly been interested since if you take each book as a single chapter of a history book it's going to be fascinating to see how the Cosmere stuff evolved from start to end since we'd have the entire history book instead of having to go 'William the Conqueror, Queen Elizabeth, Roman Empire, WWII, WWI, Great Depression, Cavemen, Space race' we'd have it in its 'proper' place, as proper as it can considering there's about a dozen known or suspected worlds worth of history. Granted this is still a few decades away from being finished but never to early to get interested in figuring it out.

Not sure if in right thread or not. So with us getting closer to halfway through the Cosmere books I've been wondering if anyone's tried doing a full reading timeline where one can read the entirety of the Cosmere in historical order. Obviously I've seen rough book orders but it would be interesting to see one where the Roshar flashbacks are in their 'correct' place instead of strewn all over the place in the narrative and if anything is technically concurrent a rough figuring of which goes first. This whole timeline read order is going to get very interesting once we get to Taln and Ash's flashbacks since those could be anywhere in the timeline, possibly predating the other books outside of Dragonsteel and maybe White Sand.

What are you playing right now?
Draginon replied to Link Von Kelsier Harvey's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Recently played Lego Coty Undercover (got around a dozen error messages while playing) and Lego Ninjago Movie Video Game. Both were pretty different from regular Lego games since City was built with the Wii U in mind and not the current systems while Ninjago didn't have levels so the hub levels were the levels. Decided to start playing Yooka Laylee and I love it so far! It is such a throwback to the N64 days since it's a spiritual successor to Banjo Kazooie (helps that the same creative team made both). It's pretty meta with the characters knowing they're in a platformer game, having expansion pack worlds, no one actually talking (just like in Banjo) and even jokes about modern games and how 'old school' everything is since one of the pagies (the new Jiggy) is in pieces and not one piece. Even the art style looks like the Banjo style, just adapted with today's graphics. If you enjoyed Rare games from their Nintendo days you'll love this game. -
Random Stuff X: Something Weird
Draginon replied to marsoupial's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
I've seen almost the entirety of Gokaiger, including the Goseiger vs Gokaiger movie, before the subs got pulled and I loved it. Currently Shout Factory has 8 of the Sentai shows for sale: Zyuranger, Dairanger, Kakuranger, Ohranger, Carranger, Megaranger, Gingaman and GoGoV. If you're interested try one of them. They're all so different from each other and mostly all different from the English version (Time Force and Samurai were almost exactly the same as the Sentai they were based off of with Time Force succeeding in recreating Timeranger in English and Samurai failing to recreate Shinkenger) so it's worth watching just for the differences and to see a kids show where things do get heavy and have consequences when the heroes mess up (like Magired from Magiranger using dark magic to stop a monster and dealing with the consequences of using something that dark while Mystic Force red was just under mind control so no punishment! Also in some shows Rangers actually die... permanently!) Its so hard to believe the show is about to start its 42nd season in a couple weeks and it's a cops and robbers theme with two teams. -
Finally finished reading the Star Wars book From a Certain Point of View. It was a fun, if long, read. It was neat seeing A New Hope from people who weren't Luke, Leia, Han, Chewy, R2 and C3PO. The format changed between different stories so one would be a traditional 3rd person, the next would be a hilarious 1st person, then one done in the style of an incident report. There was even one done up like a Shakespearean monologue! Characters who don't even appear in the movie, like Yoda and Lando, get stories showing what they were doing during the movie! I also liked how they make references to the other stuff (prequels, Clone Wars, Rebels, a subtle reference to Force Awakens and Last Jedi) but the stuff from Rogue One felt like it changed the motives of the Rebel POV characters too much since most were fighting because of the events on Scarif instead of other personal reasons and the destruction of Alderaan. Anyway I'm going to head back into Way of Kings tomorrow and finish reading that monster of a paperback.

Random Stuff X: Something Weird
Draginon replied to marsoupial's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
That's the series from Linkara right? I've not seen it if it's that one. I have seen Kaiju no Kami's Sentai reviews though which helps to show the ways the two shows contrast and how ours misses the point just the tiniest bit when it's a copy paste season. I kind of stopped after Mystic Force because of it getting to the point of 'is it on tonight?' so I haven't watched anything Operation Overdrive onwards. On post Lost Galaxy seasons I'd recommend watching Time Force and SPD if you can. I plan on doing a straight watch once I get the last megaset. In other news my B&N order came in along with my Amazon refund replacement order. So now I own everything Brandon has written, minus the non-Cosmere short stories and Legion. -
Random Stuff X: Something Weird
Draginon replied to marsoupial's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Got some new purchases. B&N is currently doing buy 2 get 3rd free on DC and Marvel comics so I bought some Star Wars Epic Collections since they are released by Marvel. The ones I did were The Empire 1, The New Republic 1 and The Newspaper Strips 1. I also grabbed Lego Ninjago Movie. Also got the Power Rangers Megaforce/Super Megaforce combo pack at Walmart since I didn't own either half of the season. This leaves just SPD-RPM, Samurai and Dino SuperCharge on Power Rangers. These Volumes weren't the ones I was hoping to grab but the selection was on the short end so I ended up ordering The Old Republic 1 and Rise of the Sith 1 and I figured I might as well order The Dark Talent to finish up the currently out stuff from Brandon. -

Got a weird waiting list right now: 1. Waiting on a replacement 5-disc DVD case 2. Waiting on a missing Lego piece that's currently out of stock 3. Finding out one of the DVDs my sister bought me on Amazon I already owned and trying to figure out how the heck we're supposed to return it. They give gift receipts but when I tried it only took me to orders I've made and customer support says she needs to do the return itself because she was the one to buy it. Not very convenient the way they claim, especially since we live in different states. I'm waiting on her to see what the deal is when she gets home. -

Got in my newest order from Shout Factory consisting of Power Rangers Seasons 4-7 megaset (pretty much just the four seasons bundled in one box with a bonus disc and booklet), Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers (already included in the Season 3 set I own but I got it for aesthetic and appearance purposes when on the shelf so it looks complete) and The Transformers The Movie in a nice steelbook cover. The products are gorgeous as always but did have to send in an email for a new case for Power Rangers Turbo. Pretty much it was busted up inside to where the discs couldn't be stored properly.
