  1. I'm on a bit of a Star Wars kick lately Had a coupon so I was going to grab one Star Wars and ended up grabbing three of them. Splinter of the Mind's Eye was one I was hoping to grab and did indeed find it. The one titled The Rise of the Empire is actually a collection featuring A New Dawn, Tarkin and three exclusive short stories. I mainly got it just because of the short stories since they aren't available anywhere else. I grabbed the Leia book because of Carrie herself. I got Buffy Season 8 Volume 1 since I love the show and I wanted to get a comic, whether it was Buffy, Power Rangers or Star Wars, and decided to get started on Buffy since they're on Season 11 now and I need to catch up. It's amazing how much the hardcover comic collections cost. One of the Star Wars collections cost $50 which contains three mini series (Leia, Chewie and Lando) and I had put it back on the shelf immediately when I saw that price! The pastry in the picture is a slice of crumb cake from Carlos Bakery from the mall. After getting these and getting our Sprint bill figured out at the store, me and my mom went to the Barnes & Noble Kitchen. It had only opened on Friday so we were lucky to have gotten there. The food there was delicious and done very well in appearance. They also have a reasonable sized book department that I liked since half of a regular Barnes & Noble these days seems to be dedicated to toys (Lego, Funko, S. H. Figurarts, puzzles) and the media section (music, vinyl, DVD)
  2. I went in expecting to get one book. I walked away with four. Star Wars: Splinter of the Mind's Eye, Star Wars: Moving Target, a compilation with Star Wars: A New Dawn and Tarkin along with three short stories and Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 Library Edition Volume 1. I'm kind of on a Star Wars binge lately. I wanted to get one book only because of the signing at Murder By the Book since I plan to binge buy while there.
  3. Because of all his lounging Lightsong shall henceforth be known as Heavysong.
  4. There's now express and regular lines being done. Express is getting stuff signed while regular gets stuff signed, questions answered and getting a picture.
  5. Starting to get cold here and I found out my mom doesn't know how my car heater works! It's just a knob! It's not that hard to turn it clockwise. Before anyone says that she's never used this type of heater before m, her car uses a knob as well and it's not the first winter in this car.
  6. I basically binge watched all of AHS Roanoke and boy am I tired!
  7. Pictures of the finished Pokémon My thoughts: They're as accurate as one can get with Lego bricks. I like that they have a little themed environment instead of it just being the Pokémon. I could feel the 'cheapness' of the Mega Construx bricks compared to Lego bricks since they felt too smooth. Did like that there was more variety in bricks (Wartortle has a double sided stud along with a 1x1 tile with a stud head on the side to overlap the brick beneath). The bricks were also sharper since the spot where they pour the plastic isn't as clean as what Lego does. Overall I like the builds, but I don't think I'll get the themes outside of Pokémon just because of how the bricks felt.
  8. Got me some knock-off legos, they're Mega Construx, which is something I don't really go for but I had to make and exception for these because they're Pokémon themed. I got Wartortle and Charmeleon.
  9. I'm now onto Warbreaker. I liked Alcatraz 2 with the silliness of the apologizing, Australia (she's a sweetheart <3) waking up as Grandpa!, the jokes at BS were appreciated but I laughed out loud at the Garth Nix for some reason since I know nothing about his books and I love reading the author bio for these books.
  10. The idea sounded interesting so when he announced it wasn't working I almost felt my stomach drop. While I love his Cosmere books, I do enjoy seeing something outside it from him.
  11. Apparently mine is making food explode when it obviously shouldn't
  12. Interesting. Makes you wonder what didn't work when writing the first draft.
  13. Been looking up the Star Wars Legends line, want to read the old continuity, and all I can say is "egads Disney is pretty inconsistent!" They seem to be picking titles at random since they have a good number released but some are series that are incomplete. They might have the second book of a trilogy but not the other two or don't have the whole of a series released but have random ones out.
  14. Finished my Alcatraz reread. Onto The Scrivener's Bones and then Warbreaker!
  15. @PlanetReelo Your mudder, that is not a misspelling, is bonkers! Some parts sounded like mine (the lying for instance) but yours is outright psychotic! At least you didn't end up like her. @A Budgie Thanks. I'm still contemplating leaving after this year and going to work at Barnes & Noble or something next year. @Mulk Thanks for the hug! These people I work for are insane. Half the time I think they have meetings just to plan meetings!
  16. Thanks. I managed to get it done this afternoon by dropping everything and getting it done. There were a few books that had no numbers so I had to count them myself in order to give them what they needed. One thing that made this really dumb is I shared the original with them so many times because they're too lazy to check the Drive for themselves and I really doubt they'll give a hoot about how long these books are because they're that shallow with work.
  17. The people I work for seriously want me to quit it seems. I'm busy with other stuff and they want me to share my spreadsheet on what novels we have and who they are checked out to. They wanted editing rights but I did not want them screwing my count up so I made a copy for them to mess up however they want. Now they want me to add the page count of every single book and want it done by the 17th. This wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't out at a workshop tomorrow, at a campus for two days next week and starting vacation the following week leaving me three days to get this done. Also we have multiple editions of most of the books so one edition might be 216 pages but another is 110 and some editions include other little stories added in so I don't know whether to count those in the count or not. At this rate they might as well have me figure out how many times each letter is used!
  18. But isn't that what the flashbacks are for? Granted one will be for a Herald but we have four other characters, one who's barely a teenager, to explore the Gap.
  19. And it's now at 13%. He's working fast so he must be getting excited by this story.
  20. Well you better hope he doesn't do an ending where everyone is in danger 'and now you've got to wait 10 years while I do the next trilogy of Mistborn, finish up Elantris, Rithmatist 2, Nightblood and something for Delacorte'... you'd better start planning on something to read during the Gap since it'll be here before you know it.
  21. Imagine how bad it'll be once the break happens
  22. Heard the Ghostbusters theme song on the radio and remembered a peeve. When someone hates on a film/show/book for misogynistic reasons. Ghostbusters (2016) was a pretty good film but not a lot like it just because it had women in it. Whenever I see any reception for that film 90% can't come up with any reason why they hate it other than the main characters being women or they say 'I liked it, but I would've preferred guys instead' and in an industry where not many women are lead roles this is a stupid thing to hate a film on. Also this complaint isn't just from men, I had a female coworker who didn't want to see it because they were women instead of men. Now granted for that film I did have jokes about it when it was first announced but I got that out of my system by the time the trailers started arriving
  23. Just finished reading Sherlock Holmes and the Servants of Hell. Overall it was pretty good. I've not watched any Hellraiser film but I think Kane captured the horror pretty well, as well as can be told from Watson being the narrator. The story itself takes place after The Final Problem during the hiatus years and explores how it's like for a man to go through a near death experience and walk out alive when he shouldn't have survived. It had a lot of connections to the Hellraiser franchise and gives insight into why the Cenobites want to come to our world. It even ends with an epilogue recapping part of the first film! Oh and one thing I really loved was that the language wasn't changed into American English and kept the British spelling of words. I hate when British books get their spelling changed here. With my Halloween read done I'm back to my Sanderson-a-thon with a reread of Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians.
  24. What would you wish for if you found a genie? What are your three wishes? It should go without saying that you can't wish for more wishes. You can also make a wish long and specific so that you can technically get more than three wishes. My wishes: This might be dark but I'd have my first wish be where people who partake in vices (drinking, drug use, smoking) should die instantly instead of harming others after taking them. Wish two would be to either read faster or have the world slow down around me while reading. This might make reading while traveling difficult though. Wish three would be for authors like GRRM to write as fast as Brandon.
  25. Doctor Who Day was yesterday up in Grapevine. Got some candy while up there along with a book.
