Mystery Project in Sanderson's Status Bar

How funny would it be if the title of this thing actually is Mystery Project? -
Random Stuff X: Something Weird
Draginon replied to marsoupial's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Barnes & Noble haul! Never got a chance to see this last year so I can see it now! Wasn't planning on picking this up, was going to do either a current Star Wars or Star Wars Legends book, but picked this when I saw it. Had a coupon that was good for any mystery novel so I thought 'Why not Jo Nesbø?' since I recently found out about his Harry Hole books. New leatherbound! Now this one certainly interested me since I wasn't into reading the Expanded Universe until recently. Also had a coupon good for cookbooks and I immediately thought of one of my favorite YouTube cooks. Ro is quite funny and very geeky. -
Puns Puns Puns and More Puns

Here's one that my mom thought was actually funny. Two of her tires needed to get repaired. One got nailed, the other screwed. In other words she has a hooker car ... I'll see myself out.- 328 replies

Random Stuff X: Something Weird
Draginon replied to marsoupial's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
My mom was watching Norbit and I've got a pretty good question. Why is it considered acceptable for black actors to dress up in yellowface and whiteface but it's racist and wrong when a white actor does the same? -
I don't use bookmarks anymore because I've gotten used to remembering what page I'm on. If I do forget the exact page I use context, like if I'm in chapter 20 I can figure out where I am.

I mostly have paperbacks on Sanderson's books but I tend to read hardcovers with the jacket on unless it's going to get damaged or I hate the cover.

I do see the convenience of it but I'm not going to let a stranger come in. Heck the radio station I listen to talked about it this morning and the guy suggested maybe a strongbox instead.

Looking at his last posted writing schedule I'm wondering if he switched AG2 and the random novella. -
You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Draginon replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you plan on trips a few years in advance and worry about book releases. I'm a little concerned about this with my plans for the sabbatical in 2020 since that's supposed to be the year of SA4 and I doubt I'll be in a country that speaks English at the time it releases, unless it comes out after September then I'll be set to get it. Yes. Her dragon books were his first fantasy books he read apparently. -

I was looking through some extra books at work and one popped out at me. That one was Owl Moon by... Jane Yolen! If BS wasn't such a big fan of hers I wouldn't have noticed this. -
Mystery Project in Sanderson's Status Bar

Lapse of sanity?! Does that mean Brandon will be admitted to Arkham Asylum and he'll be Batman's newest enemy known as The Writer? Seriously though, does Brandon himself update the bar or does someone else do it for him? -
Mystery Project in Sanderson's Status Bar
Draginon replied to Exalted's topic in General Brandon Discussion
@StormingTexan It almost seems weird he would draw attention to a project that *might* not go anywhere. I mean he didn't draw attention to the hot dog story until one of his newsletters posted it. This has to be something he feels confident enough to publish for it to be on the status bar. -

It'd be funny if it was the non-Cosmere short story collection and he's just doing something forwards/postscripts along with a little information on those worlds to explain why they are so different from our world. Otherwise I think it's going to be a short story/novella or even Secret History 2. -
Worst Sanderson Character
Draginon replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I haven't seen enough characters yet but I can't recall any that I thought were particularly bad. Annoying maybe but that says more on how they get under the skin. If I had to name one out of the ones I've read so far then I'd go with Dilaf. He reminded me a little of Margaret White from Carrie, way too devoted to his faith that he's a raving lunatic jumping at any reason to destroy those he interprets as evil. Not knocking the faith itself, just the man. -
Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Draginon replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
Welp, here's how my day went. My mom wanted to get some work done at one of the campuses instead of having a day to relax (not much new here since her middle name is practically Work). I was the one driving but when we got to the campus I later realized I didn't have my wallet on me. I was surprised and shocked that I didn't have it but I held onto the thought that it was still on my dresser (when we got home it was there). Because of this my mom had to drive so that we'd get lunch later on, so when we arrived at McDonald's I opened my door and this woman whipped into the spot next to me so fast she nearly wiped out the door and me. She didn't even give an apology or give a sorry face. Later, this was after I found my wallet so I'm driving here, we went to deliver something to my dad and the stuff she said to him about me was the worst. She pretty much told him she doesn't trust me to be at the one campus on my own on Monday and Tuesday because 'I'll get into one of my moods'. She always thinks I'm talking rude, snappy and talking to others like they're idiots but I'm not. Like I'll talk nice like Elend does but she makes it out that I'm taking like Straff! She even claimed I said something to one of our coworkers that could come back bad on us but I barely said two words to him and one of those was hi. It's like she's trying to guilt trip me for being nice or neutral to people. Anyway I've worked at one of the campuses without her supervision and, gasp, no one tells her that I acted in a bad way or anything so it's stupid that she thinks it'll happen at a different campus. I don't know what it'll take to make her trust me to do anything if she will point blank say she doesn't trust me right in front of me. edit: Oh and when she was talking to my dad she complained about my driving. I will say that driving is not my thing, I'm more a public transportation type of person, but I'm not one of those people getting into accidents everyday. The way she always makes it out is that I'm almost looking for a car to smash into. The only problems I have with driving are: 1. My eyes get extremely tired about an hour into a drive, it's like I'm getting eye strain similar to the warnings at the beginning of a video game and it's to the point that my eyes will start watering. 2. I get a type of vehicular narcolepsy, as in I feel sleepy sometimes in cars but not once I leave it, which is fine when I'm the passenger but when I'm the driver I have to force myself to stay awake long enough to get home. 3. Night driving is the worst for me since I get more tired when driving at night and it gets harder for me to tell when the taillights get closer since I see glares from the lights, though that last might be more a glasses problem. -

@Claincy Hey boring answers can be good too. If I didn't do the scenario I posted then I'd use it to read all day without interruption. -

Saw a video about what would happen if everyone except yourself vanished. Well let's make this fun and assume everyone else vanished for a whole day, what would you do? So that nothing, no matter how heinous, is limited here's some rules: 1. Assume that all vehicles (trains, planes, buses) were fully automated to take you anywhere. 2. Anything you steal would legally belong to you, points from store benefits would still apply and online purchases will be yours for free. 3. Tv, movie theaters, theme parks and restaurants would still work just fine. Addendum: On account of @Darkness_ I'm adding a rule: 4. Whatever power that is holding everyone is also keeping you from hurting or killing yourself like an idiot. Here's my solo day: I would start by raiding B&N and the Lego Store for books and Lego sets I would want but couldn't otherwise. Then I would hop on a plane to head to someplace like London or Tokyo. En route I would do some online shopping to get stuff I couldn't from my earlier raid, maybe even hack the bank to fill up my bank account to live comfortably for the rest of my life. Once I land I'd check into a hotel, maybe the presidential suite, and go to sleep.

Random Stuff X: Something Weird

@Slowswift same here! I even told my dad about it, since he had a Mickey Mouse shirt with a Stars and Stripes background, and he found it stupid as well. -
Any Stories You Avoid Because of the Author?
Draginon replied to Draginon's topic in Entertainment Discussion
@Bean Delphiki You do have to remember The Dom read these books years ago, he even says he read the original at 12 and didn't enjoy it that much so it might've clouded his read of it for his comparison video, and this video is two years old so who knows if he learned better. Also some people notice 'messages' that aren't there or pick up on one that others simply do not so he probably noticed the children thing and got annoyed by it to the point that he now thinks that is a message. He even says he doesn't know anything about the Mormon church, he's from England so it's not exactly on his radar, so he was judging it off of just the Ender Saga which he didn't like all that much. Heck I don't know much about Mormonism, I've heard that old 'joke' about them being a cult way too much when they are brought up, and what I do know is more from what Brandon himself says. I myself haven't read Ender's Game, so I don't know how Card writes stuff, but it's not something I'm interested in since dystopian stories aren't my cup of tea. -
Any Stories You Avoid Because of the Author?
Draginon replied to Draginon's topic in Entertainment Discussion
To those saying not to judge the author and their works together, sometimes there are some authors that just give off such a bad impression in interviews and stuff that makes you question if you do want to read their stuff or not. It does help to know nothing about them first to not cloud your perception of the story and then read a little about them that makes you go 'that kind of person made this!?' but sometimes it's not possible to do that and we learn about the persons beliefs and views before reading their stuff. -
Any Stories You Avoid Because of the Author?
Draginon replied to Draginon's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I just didn't like the sheer racism in the book. I know it's historically accurate but that doesn't mean I have to enjoy it. The stuff that didn't involve the case or anyone Black was dull from what I remember. I read it back in the summer between 10th and 11th grade. Also doesn't help that the year before the English teacher I had at the time had us watch the movie and I didn't clue in that Scout was a girl until she was in a dress for church. Definitely not a story to read after the adaptation. Yeah, you don't like reading stuff from people named Terry I'm mixed on Goodkind since I don't like his attitude when it comes to his fanbase, like claiming his books are not Fantasy despite shoving magic and dragons in our face (haven't actually read the books yet but I think there are dragons), but I had already bought the whole series by the time I found out about his attitude. -
Random Stuff X: Something Weird
Draginon replied to marsoupial's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Sweet bird pics! Guys, you know how the news keeps making a big deal over the NFL players 'disrespecting' the flag? I read an article the other day that showed how we're all disrespecting it as according to the flag guidelines, yes there are official guidelines on how to do stuff with the flag. (I'm not putting this in legalize for simplicity) One is to never wear the flag or use it as decoration on clothing. So anytime you wear a shirt with the flag then it's disrespecting the flag, same goes with those flag bikinis. Helmets do count so the NFL isn't off the hook along with the other sports teams. Another is to never use it to advertise a product. Beer companies do this all the time when advertising American lager and other beers around the 4th. I think this includes movie and book covers but I'm not sure. Displaying the flag in anything but flag stance is a big no-no since it's the same as letting it touch the ground. If the flag is printed on anything then you can't throw it away, it's the same as burning the flag itself so hold on to your Independence Day flag disposables and dispose of it the same way the flag gets retired. Those were just 4 of the 10 from the article and I already named any clothes manufacturer/anyone selling clothes (disney, J. C. Penny's, Hot Topic, Wal-Mart), all beer companies (and possibly all of Hollywood and all book publishers selling books in the US), people who improperly display the flag and the companies who make paper plates and napkins as showing no respect to the flag. -
