  1. @Caesura She is. My sister has practically given up on trying to reason with her. It's not good because the way she treats me has given me suicidal thoughts in the past and gotten me close to depression. She's someone with control issues since everything has to be her way or the highway. She also says stuff that's racist and prejudice in nature, like if a black person cuts her off in traffic she automatically goes for a derogatory term. Heck when I told this stuff to my GF she knew exactly the term my mom is that I'd already come to: a female dog. She just doesn't seem to understand that she's pushing everyone away just like her father did after my grandma died.
  2. I'm not really into reading scripts for plays, I do have Cursed Child and Shakespeare but for the most part I don't get into reading scripts since I lose focus and can't pay that much attention to the words. I'm just the person who'd rather see the finished product up on stage since you get more out of it with an actor saying the words. Sorry I couldn't contribute much but this is out of my zone.
  3. This is more griping/venting about my mom than having a bad day so bear with me here: My mom has to make simple math so complicated. We have a bunch of books here that need to have labels she needs to print and it's a simple double multiplication problem. Pretty much there's 6 books in a bag and there's 20 sets of each bag and then triple the number. It's 360 labels but the way she does it she ends up in the 1000's! I mean I'm not a math genius by any account but that's simple elementary school multiplication! She also tries to 'help' me without asking me first and she thinks it goes much faster. I know what her intent is but when she does it without asking if I need the extra help she's pretty much saying "I don't trust you enough to finish this on your own". It doesn't matter how simple the project is, she just has to butt in without asking first. Heck a year ago I did ask her for a little help on building a shelf and I just needed her to keep something steady while I got a brace on and instead of just doing that she has to take over the entire process so I just up and left until she was finished because I wasn't going to put up with her not listening to me on that one. A couple weeks back we were at the store and this employee asked if I wanted to try something, you know the free sample people? Well it was something I had tried before so I told him 'no thanks, I've already tried them' and instead of that being the end of it my mom just has to stop and ask 'are you sure you've tried these?' and I told her yes but apparently that wasn't enough to convince her to move on and she acts like I should take a sample and repeats her question. Jeez, I didn't want a sample and she turned a two second no thanks into a minute of questioning if I've tried it. She does that to me all the time at the store, I'll see something that'll give a small audible 'ew' and somehow that translates to 'that sounds good, I want to try that' to her! She can be such a hypocrite as well. When we go to conferences she wants to go to and she gets on my case if I don't attend something but when it's one I want to go to I don't give her hell because I understand it's not her thing and yet her stuff isn't my cup of tea and yet she thinks I should go attend stuff I find boring? Then there are times where she'll give a subtle hint for me to do something but when I give her a subtle hint she doesn't get it, like she'll say 'I think you might like doing this' and when I suggested a little port adventure for her to try and one for me for our cruise at Christmas she didn't get that I wanted some space. It's like I have to explain to her like she's 5. She also thinks my opinions don't matter if they clash with hers like if I think a flower is pretty but she thinks it's ugly she'll say I'm saying it's pretty just to contradict her and annoy her. It's like she doesn't understand what opinion means! More or less her doing these things has broken me down to the point of 'I'm not even going to try anymore' since it gets ridiculous having to 'fight' her over this stuff. This is why I seriously need to do that sabbatical before I go insane!
  4. Finished Firefight today. It was a little slow and dull in the beginning but got better towards the end. My thoughts will be put in a spoiler tag just in case: Next up back to Scadrial with Shadows of Self
  5. Went on a bit of a shopping spree yesterday. I had some coupons that were going to expire today at B&N. One was for the collectible edition books they have and they happened to be doing a buy one get one 50% off so I grabbed The Complete Works of Edgar Allen Poe and William Shakespeare. I then had three 20% off coupons and used them to get more MST3K. Was going for just 3 but ended up with 4 because there was a cheap one available. The ones I got were Volume 25 (containing the episodes Robot Holocaust, Operation Kid Brother (actual title is Double 007), Kitten with a Whip and Revenge of the Creature) Volume 31 Turkey Day Collection Tin (containing Jungle Goddess, The Painted Hills (riffing poor Lassie!), The Screaming Skull and Squirm) Volume 35 (containing Teenage Cave Man, Being From Another Planet, 12 to the Moon and Deathstalker and the Warriors from Hell) and Volume 39 (containing Girls Town, The Amazing Transparent Man, Diabolik and Satellite Dishes which is the host segments of the 11 episodes they can't get permission to release) Also stopped by the Lego store and got four Architecture sets and got the free storybook set
  6. It might be better to think The Girlie Show than Vogue, but if you go beyond her stuff it's a soft core version of 50 Shades but without the abusive relationship and actual acting.
  7. I don't think she gets buck naked in Vogue as far as I recall.
  8. Just watched Body of Evidence. Interesting movie and can now say I've seen everything there is on Madonna, and I don't mean her music or acting.
  9. @TheOrlionThatComesBefore I have to agree on Firefight so far. About halfway and it's just average. I probably wouldn't have read this right after WOR but I've already committed to reading Sanderson's books in published order (barring the Cosmere short stories which I'm reading in the collection but will read those by published order and not the order inside) and I'm almost to the end of that (W&W2 and 3, Elantris 2.0, Dark Talent, Calamity, AU and Oathbringer) so I might as well drudge through this one. Also experienced a bad one with the Eragon series. I had liked the first two well enough but something about the third book really wasn't gelling with me, and I was about halfway through it by that point, and put it down for a good year before being able to finish. I think what helped there was that I had finished reading a King novel I didn't really like and needed something 'fun'. Luckily I didn't experience burnout during the last book but Eragon was really trying my patience by that point that I wanted to read more about the other characters than the bloody hero of the story (I didn't even feel that way about Rand so that's saying something) @mattig89ch I know how hard that must be, especially when it's a long series that's still going.
  10. So has anyone here ever gotten reader burnout? I've gotten it a few times before but just recently had one for a couple weeks that I'm getting over after finishing reading WOR and had a little trouble getting into Firefight. I tend to get bad burnout if I read stuff from the same author in a row without a break and I haven't taken any real breaks from Sanderson since I started his stuff. I did manage not to do that with WOT by taking breaks at different intervals by reading a different book. I had hoped with Brandon switching genres so much it would the same but it definitely didn't. With me being so close to finally catching up I'm not sure if I should take a break or not. What do you do if you hit the burnout? What I usually do when I get into this spot is do something else like play a game, watch some unwatched videos and even watch some YouTube.
  11. It had been bumped to non-Cosmere on the last SOTS I believe
  12. Out of all the different systems I've read I'd probably go for Awakening. I think seeing the world as a more colorful place would be lovely to see. If I had to include ones I haven't read up yet then I'd probably choose Forgery. Re-writing the history of something sounds very interesting to me.
  13. I just finished beating Lightning Returns Final Fantasy XIII and boy was it good. It was such a sad game but filled with lots of hope for everyone you save. Since it was a grand finale I would've liked if some of the other minor characters showed up in new roles like all the main characters, and Chocolina of all people, did during the game. I also liked the fight against Bhunivelze, the antagonist and god of the FFXIII world. He fits with my ideas of deities in that if they are jerks or This post has been reported for attempting to skirt the rulesholes then they don't deserve to rule over mankind and should be put down, but his motivation and attitude was changed when done for the western audience since in Japanese he only fights Lightning because he develops a complex of 'you will be destroyed for defying me but I don't want to kill you because I love you' while in English he was changed into a western depiction of a god being 'righteous' and 'knowing what's best' for us. Pretty much his evil plan was to save those still living, give a permanent death to the souls of those who are dead and bring the living to a new world. What makes that evil is that killing souls makes it so the person never existed and the living forget they ever existed. Could you imagine never remembering those you love that have passed on? And this is a world where souls get reborn all the time so it's the entire history of those souls being destroyed as a result.
  14. Haven't read either KKC books but those involved don't really make me interested. Personally if I had to choose a Cosmere story for a film I'd choose either The Final Empire or Warbreaker. Both of these could be considered cheap options because, outside of fights, Mistborn doesn't require anything involving computers and Warbreaker would only need computers for any non-practical usages of breath, to enhance the colors around Susebron, any shots depicting the city that can't be done on set and the smoke effects of Nightblood at the end. But my preferred adaptation would be doing it as a tv show where each season is on a different planet like this: Season 1- The Final Empire Season 2- Well of Ascension Season 3- Hero of Ages Season 4- Elantris Season 5- Short Stories Season 6- The Way of Kings (if structured like GOT then I'd have episode 1 depict Kaladin's journey to the Plains, Episode 2 introduce Shallan, etc along with an episode adapting the Interludes) I could see the opening showing the star map of the Cosmere from AU and zooming towards the planet for that episode while a voice explains some stuff without giving away the stories shown.
  15. That's great that your wife's not seriously sick. Finally got an update one my passport and it's finally done processing. I sent the application in beck over spring break in March and then had to get a 'real' birth certificate because the one I sent apparently wasn't good enough. Should be getting it next week. Also ordered some stuff off of Amazon and got all that yesterday. The first is a passport wallet/book so that it's easy to keep stuff together when on vacation internationally. The second was Power Rangers Samurai, meaning I finally have the entire show to binge watch (until Ninja Steel gets released). The Final was MST3K Vol 17 containing the episodes The Crawling Eye, The Beatniks, The Final Sacrifice and The Blood Waters of Dr. Z. This cost a little more than usual since it was out of print but hats worth it (just have to get the other two that are out of print)
  16. Having to experience one while working: People helping me on something that doesn't need two or more people to do. Seriously, it doesn't need to have two people to return a bunch of novels, one calling out and one inputting the title. I also do it faster by myself but my mom somehow thinks it goes faster the other way. I've gotten tired of telling her I don't need help for the millionth time.
  17. It's interesting figuring out which films we like versus ones we do like but are more meh on. I wasn't surprised by my results since I loved Inside Out (though when it was first announced I was skeptical since it sounded more like a concept for a short film and not a full length one) but then I wasn't all that wowed by MU or Cars. Haven't seen Coco and don't plan to since I haven't been impressed with Pixar's Mexican related shorts, and to be honest Mexican culture doesn't interest me that much (not in a bigotry way, just in the same way someone doesn't like sports or bagpipes) and while I like skeletons (looking at you Jack Skellington) the look of them in this film turns me off.
  18. Found a 'quiz' that shows which Pixar films you prefer. Here's my results Funnily Inside Out is 1 but I only saw it once the whole time doing this. Got to see Toy Story 2, Incredibles, Finding Nemo and Wall-E a lot in it though. Here's the link: https://sorta.app/q/1003
  19. I want to get a second opinion on this since I'm not the best at identifying mental disorders on other people. One of my bosses is one of those who will be sweet as pie to you one minute and then pounce on you like a tiger, or Joan Crawford in Mommy Dearest, the next. My mom thinks she might have bipolar disorder and when looking it up a few symptoms seemed to match up (not fully thinking out consequences, not being able to sleep since we get emails from her at 3am a lot) but I'd rather not make the judgment call on this since I don't know if it's her being bipolar or having a power trip.
  20. Last Friday work did staff awards and I got some gift cards for Subway, Olive Garden, Starbucks (not a fan but I do their tea and frappes), Cheesecake Factory (not something close so it'd be a special occasion), AMC and Amazon (my mom got the same cards and she gave me the Amazon since she doesn't use it). Already used some of the Olive Garden (since some slontz kid broke my mom's toe when she was going in and I didn't want her to pay for the meal) and used the Amazon to get a passport wallet for Christmas (better to keep track of the passport, once I actually get it delivered, and the stuff for the cruise), Power Rangers Samurai (the only season I'm missing) and MST3K Volume 17 (since it's out of print it costs a bit of money so the cards helped here).
  21. Sigh... My mom seems to think that the ship we're going on in December is laid out differently than it is. She looks at partial pictures of the front end and where she's counting deck 6, where we're staying, she puts it on the pool deck or the deck directly under the pools. The problem is the ship is 14 decks tall and the lowest pool is on either deck 10 or 11, so at least 4 or 5 decks between us and the pools. The outside is painted navy towards the bottom and she thinks the only deck down there is deck 2 (deck 1 is just first aid) despite the navy being where decks 1-4 are, that includes the lobby itself. Despite showing a picture that shows the decks numbered on the outside she still doesn't believe me.
  22. Here's the haul from Voodoo Doughnut The different ones here are: Grape Ape (doughnut with grape tang and purple sprinkles), buttermilk bar, Maple Blazer Blunt (cinnamon coated with maple glaze covered with red sprinkles), Gay Bar (bavarian cream filled with Froot Loops in a rainbow), Tangfastic (doughnut with tang and marshmallows), Homer (strawberry icing and sprinkles), Voodoo Bubble (pink icing, bubble gum dust and a piece of double bubble), Triple Chocolate Penetration (chocolate doughnut with chocolate icing and Cocoa Puffs) and a Portland Cream (just Bavarian cream filled) The final I'm putting in a spoiler tag since it does look suggestive This thing is huge! It could take me two servings or more to finish unless I come into it hungry and I might need a knife and fork just to eat it.
  23. Going down to Austin to visit Voodoo Doughnut. Wearing the 'gayest' thing I own since the establishment is LGBT friendly (not part of that group but a supporter)
  24. Edited. Didn't realize I put in spoilers.
