  1. My $.02 on Renarin (and Glys and S-a and Cultivation) and the Diagram.
  2. Sure, it works in English, because we've got weird, illogical rules about which vowels get pronounced and which don't and which get changed depending on which other vowels they're next to. But going by just the sounds? Unless Alethi just happens to have the same exact vowel idiosyncrasies, Ialai's blasphemous parents should have called her something like "Ilalai". For that matter, what about SA's overseas translations? Do the versions in, say, Polish, just say "trust us, this name is symmetrical in Brandon's native language", or do they change it?
  3. Huh. I'd assumed she'd simply heard that Mraize had bought it- it was a famous painting and he was probably spreading the news around in a way that would lure her in- but sure, if she turns out to have a ~mystical~ connection to artwork, that would be good foreshadowing.
  4. So we're at the end of Oathbringer, and Ash and Taln are collapsing on the ground because Jezrien died. And just before she passes out, Ash sees that Jasnah has their pictures. Except... how is that supposed to work, physically? Jasnah is standing in front of the Heralds and looking from them to Hoid's drawings. So the pictures should be on the side of the paper facing Jasnah. Ash shouldn't be able to see anything except the back of the paper. Is Jasnah contorted in some weird position? Is she helpfully holding out the pictures in the other direction just in case anyone wants to see? Is the paper really thin, and the ink bled through? Or is it just a plothole?
  5. edit: nvm i think i misremembered the book
  6. Roshar has months. And Adolin and Shallan's discussion about "girl stuff" implies that periods also happen on a monthly basis. Okay, but there are three moons in really fast orbits. How can they have "months" as we understand them? Let along months close enough to earth months that Rosharan ladies get visited by the red voidbringer once per?
  7. I vote for the latter.
  8. Oh storms, how do I choose...? Pattern. Wyndle. Pattern. Wyndle. Rua flipping off the Stormfather. No, it's too difficult. I can't vote in this poll.
  9. I recently was linked to a Cosmeric bombshell dropped on Reddit: In case you, like me, haven't read Elantris recently enough to get what he was referring to, Oversleep helpfully summed it up in: So many questions here... -I thought the Dor ripped people apart, too -Does this go any way towards explaining the Ire? -Is Riino a Cognitive Shadow now? -My copy of Oathbringer is on a different continent, but I don't think it said anything about Riino's skin being silver. Kal wouldn't have mistaken him for a Shin if he was all weird and shiny, would he?
  10. I think he just lost control at that point because he was dying.
  11. @poordecision As far as I can tell, Glys isn't "cleansed" at all. He's still corrupted, Renarin still might be a Voidbinder/Surgebinder hybrid. The only thing that changed is that Jasnah decided not to go through with killing him. Glys seems to be on Honor's side even though he's corrupted. This may be because Sja-Anat is trying to defect, or maybe he chose out of his own free will, I have no idea. He's kind of a foil to Malata's spren Spark, a bondspren that is perfectly okay siding with Odium.
  12. The first reply after that, from Oversleep: Okay, this is a big deal. Big fat Cosmere clue.
  13. Surely you mean, "Locks of Radiance".
  14. It can be both, but there's only ten Heralds on Braize at most, and they're prisoners. I figured the (un)Fused are the ones numerous enough for Khriss to have heard rumors of.
  15. I was rereading AU today, and I noticed this little gem in Khriss's essay: When AU first came out, I probably thought it was a reference to the Heralds. But with Oathbringer's hindsight, it makes much more sense that it's talking about the Fused. Always cool to find the hints that Brandon drops. ETA: Although without a host, I guess they wouldn't technically be Fused yet.
  16. Yes, but it says all Inquisitors have always had f-gold healing.
  17. So what's killing Inquisitors at such a rate that there's always a spare set of spikes for each new one?
  18. So I was just rereading my Mistborn books, and I found a few weird things. Such as Inqusitor healing. All the Inquisitors have super healing, which is said to be feruchemical. But TLR thought he had bred the feruchemy out of the Terrismen. So where did he get the victims to make the spikes? Also, the Nalazen the worshipped the stars. This implies that they could see the stars. Were the pre-Deepness mists sporadic, or really thin, or what?
  19. I assume the servant was a kandra. Maybe the infamous worldhopping WalDo.
  20. Nice. Post it in the musical thread.
