I don't know if I understand you. You want to "program" metalmind so it would always be tapped by you, even when you're sleeping? I don't think so? Maybe by some identity manipulation, because medallions can be used when sleeping, but medallions have some level of self-identity, metalminds don't. And what about tapping nicrosil and filling a metalmind? I don't understand you here at all. If you don't have a power, and you have it in nicrosilmind, you can only fill certain metalmind when you're tapping that nicrosilmind and gaining that metal power, when you stop, you can't access that metalmind. Tapping and filling metalminds aren't separate powers of Feruchemy, they are just one power of Feruchemy, so you likely can't block metalmind to just filling/tapping phase.

That's an interesting topic. You can't forge Aluminum, so Forgery is off the table. Even brutally reverse lashing aluminum out of the body isn't possible. I don't even think even Divine Breath healing can remove aluminum, it would likely heal around it as well, and at best make the body function around it (maybe in a way that Hemalurgy changes body to accommodate spikes?). However Kandra can physically remove it - in BoM MeLaan sealed Marasi wound and remove toxins from it, so I think Kandra can easily grab it and pull it out of the body. Likely skilled Soulcaster could soulcast a small portion of the body into smoke to make removal of aluminum easier, either by muscles pushing it out, or by physically grabbing it and pulling it. But both of these options are like normal surgery, not magical healing. Sadly, normal surgery might be the only other alternative which could help remove aluminum from the body.
-
Yeah, that's one way to remove aluminum from their body. Available only for Fullborn, Mistborn or Twinborn (A-aluminum, F-gold). But burning it when you're still fighting might not be the best idea, unless it's a lethal wound.

Yes, and coins and bullets. But in SoS when chasing Marksman, Wax got distracted by Bleeder, and in the meantime Marksman entered slums and disappeared in narrow streets. It is, he can, but by doing so, he has one pair of eyes less to watch his back. Logical reasoning. But it can be the opposite. Shardblades are light because they are solid Investiture, and Shardplates are not light, despite being solid Investiture, because something else is causing their weight. Not necessarily related to what's causing Nightblood weight. I'm going in circles, but I get it now, so let's agree with this. Not related to this topic, but Shardblade is a bit more invested than Shardplate, Nightblood is even more invested than Shardblade: Nah, it's good. I had fun, even if we both were talking about completely different things.- 456 replies

No, no, you're wrong here. Atium-electrum is its own thing, separate from electrum. Atium-electrum Mistings are separate from electrum Mistings. So Atium-electrum metalmind stores youth, not determination, as its not electrum. It's an alloy of electrum, which changes its Allomantic and Feruchemical properties. Spikes granting Atium-electrum give only Atium-electrum powers, not electrum powers. Those are two seperate powers.

Yes, they are constantly being used in Era 1 as anchors. Or are there buildings which have both stone/brick fundations and partially wooden walls? Fences, gates, signs, electric wires, coins, do we really have to argue about the amount of metal on Elendel streets, when Wax NEVER complained about it?? Please avrage hight! And you know that the "mixing with a crowd" is just one of many options both have? We don't have to disscuss thoroughly every one of them. Here you go What? How did you get that from this? It only states that Nightblood and Shardblade's weight are from the same property, but opposite in "value". Ohh And it sounded so good in my head, and Shardplates shattered it all. Yes, I was talking only about physical manifestations of Investiture, not just about invested objects (which can be invested by physical manifestations of Investiture like Breaths) or spirit web. Yeah, sorry, I'm like this sometimes. I just pointed out Nightblood is heavier than expected! Now I have no idea what I was thinking back there, likely it triggered me when you said words "Nightblood", "Shardblade", "light" in the same sentence, and ignore the whole F-iron and mass thing.- 456 replies

Strongly disagree. It's far better parallel to the French Revolution, which was very much a spontaneous popular revolt, which directly overthrown and killed the unpopular king, caused chaos across the country, mass executions, multiple government changes, reducing status of nobles and priests, rising the status of peasants and the middle class, multiple coalition wars, which ultimately ended with Napoleon (Elend!) becoming Emperor of France, bringing monarchy back to France, who forced his political order across whole Europe using his supreme military force. Please, the American Revolution didn't even kill any king! Because there are no slaves in Era 2? There is a reason for this - in the previous 1000 years 95% of the population was enslaved. They don’t want to go back to this. Era 1 already coverd the slavery part of world's history. Which follows Earth's history. Do we have anything better than democracy? Not at this moment, despite democracy being used in our world for thousands of years, this is, for now, the best we can work with. These are just my comments to your essay. I'm open for discussion.

Windows, doors, gutters, trash cans, street lamps, nails, coins he throws, there are still a lot of objects Fullborn can use to steelpush and ironpull. Pushing on things behind the wall isn't smart, as you do not always know what it is, and nails or other smaller objects will be pushed out and won't provide anchor. I've never considered them as travel anchors. And small streets, corridors and paths between buildings are often curvy, have lots of intersections and sharp turns. Not straight lines. No, I did specify Elendel And there are people living there, so sometimes both sides can try to hide among them. Yeah, his from Roshar, 7ft tall, with Rosharian foot bigger than Earth's foot. His head would be as good as a giant arrow floating above him They are pure, concentrated investiture in the form of physical metal. They don't contain any other elements except for god metal axi. It's not that investiture is converted into matter (via E=mc2) to create a god metal, it's that investiture shares characteristics of both matter (different physical states) and energy (fueling magic) while being separate from both of them. God metals are pure investiure, not matter, but still are physical. And because in our Universe both matter and energy can bend spacetime, Investiture can as well, which can be described as mass. Yeah, I'm good at derailing stuff Investiture in F-iron has a clear command to change mass of the Ferring, while simple investiture has not, F-iron likely changes something on spiritual level, strictly related to mass. So while investiture in ironmind has some mass, it's the changes in spirit web that causes ferring's mass to change, not being more invested. I'm not gonna argue what causes the change in mass, and why density stays the same. I mostly agree with you on this (tbf I don't remember now what's going on, so...) I just explained. Investiture has some mass, in the form of solid god metal it is the densest, under normal conditions, and yet it is still very light. Those are Shardblades, that's why they weigh. Shardblade weighing 1-2 kg would be considerably lower than its oversized sword size suggests, but comparable to a spear, so that spearmen can be not impressed by its mass. Scadrial is a low investiture world. The amount of investiture Mistborn/Feruchemist uses is lower than Stromlight (and Mists) which is gaseous. Bands are made of regular metals, invested with Scadrial intensity-level of investiture - which is low. Whole spear weighs around 1-2 kg, the spearhead less than 1 kg (let's say an oversized spearhead would weigh 1 kg). Because of how low invested Bands are compared to Shardblades (very, very, very low), mass of investiture in them would be very little, and would be just slightly noticeable, if even at all. And they are still invested after being used, so nobody has a chance to notice their weight and compare them while invested and not invested. What I'm saying here is that Shardblades proves Investiture has mass, but a 6ft wide and funky sword weighs less than a regular sword, so a god metal of that size is very light, lighter than it should be. Liquid investiture would be lighter, and gas would be the lightest (like Stormlight, Breaths or Mists). Water vapor is more than 1000x less dense than liquid water, so I expect a great difference in mass of solid and gaseous investiture contained in the same space, under normal pressure. I'm not taking part in F-iron disscusion here. I'm just going wild. Not everything that I say is to prove a point, sometimes I just want to prove you're wrong without making any point So I'm kind of providing you with an argument for your disprove of this formula. What can I say except you're welcome!- 456 replies

But there is a lot of them. It had to be outside of Roshar system, as there are no large remains of Ambition power there, nor her Rhythms are present there. Whatever it was, it wasn't in Roshar system, and that's enough for Odium to be unable to reach it after being bound to Braize and Roshar system. Shades might be for splintered parts of Ambition. It was described in Ars Arcanum that chunks of Ambition rained down on Threnody. No, Ambition investiture would be everywhere on Roshar, and by this time likely gained sentience (like Dor). Her Rhythms would be present in the system, despite being splintered. And Splintering is a violent process, which leaves scars. Which makes no sense as why would he reduce his power when all he wants to do is to go from system to system and splinter Shards? It was even said that he didn't want to invest fully on Roshar. People don't know how Aimia got destroyed or what Shardblades are, and that was just 1500 years before WoK. Or what Oathgates are, where the Tower is. Or that the Tower is Sibling. People don't know there is Odium and Cultivation on Roshar. They don't know humanity came from Ashyn and were the first Voidbringers, while Parsh were Dawnsingers and later Voidbringers. I think Roshar fully shows us that they are not that good at keeping their historical records. Not every Unmade is intelligent. Thrill is mindless. Odium likely didn't need Bondsmith spren for all of them to unmade Unmade. And Sibling was almost Unmade. So it is likely. Because there is nothing that suggests that Ambition's investiture is present in Roshar system in large quantities. What another Shard? Honor and Cultivation? Then yes. From those two, after he got trapped in the Roshar system. Powerful doesn't necessarily mean intelligent. Like Cusicesh spren, isn't as invested as Nightwatcher, but more than regular spren, with unknown level of intelligence. Me too, I like good discussions

Yup, I agree, he likely has F-duralumin spike. It has the same description. And in AoL he wasn't that good with emotional Allomancy. And if some Inquisitors were given F-Atium spikes by Ruin, which seems like a huge waste, why not F-duralumin?

Bricks partially reduces steelsight, Wax is still able to see wires inside walls, and weak lines leading to objects behind wall. Some buildings in Elendel are still made out of wood, at least partially. They have the same 360 degree if they are in the same place. Yes, they can watch each other back, but they still see the same circle. That's what I meant. If Windrunner cancels Lashing, he falls down on the ground. Invisible, yes, but he's not flying anymore. There are like 5 mil people living in Elendel. They walk the street, go to work/home/shop/bar, doing what they do everyday. They won't disappear just because there is 2 dudes flying over the city Shardblades and Honorblades are made purely out of solid Investiture, and yet they still have a mass. They're light, yes, but still weigh something. Wouldn't it mean that Investiture on its own still has a mass? Not a lot, because solid ones are so light, but still have some amount of mass (which is considered a lot by a spearmen). So in liquid and gaseous form investiture would weigh even less, as it's less dense. God metals are a proof that investiture has a mass. You used Nightblood as an example of being light despite being invested, I disputed it. I am still not buying Frustration's WoB, it just says that Nightblood is built on the same principles as Shardblades, but in a different way, which can mean many things. Swords are surprisingly light, they weigh around 1-2 kg. Even one of the heaviest swords, Zweihänder (up to 210 cm), weighs just 2-4 kg. Nightblood size sword should weigh just around 2 kg, and if all investiture that he consumed and holds inside of him would weigh just 1 kg, it would make that sword significantly heavier than it should be. That's enough, and realistic to assume that whatever he holds weighs just a few kg. The same could be with Susebron, 50k Breaths which weigh just 1 kg more - nothing compared to what he already weighs (~90 kg). I’m not claiming that Nightblood weighs 20 kg, but his mass is noticeably not accurate to his size, which for sword could mean less than a kilogram more.- 456 replies

That's clever and brilliant. Wow. I thought about it once, but only as a means to communicate from CR to PR on short distances, by flashing morse code via Allomancy, but not on the scale you propose. But that can be done. While Seeker can receive signals from relatively short distance, with the use of Primar Cubes and some metal structure, the range could likely be extended (after all Malwish ships fly with the use of A-steel), and they could create a beacon emanating signals as strong as the Well. Then there is a problem with signal pollution, every Allomancer and Feruchemist close to a receiver would emit their own signal which would be picked up by antenna and would interfere with its communication. But Scadrial already has electricity and radio, and it's likely wireless, as Edwarn reported that they set up a camp while climbing to the temple, and dragging kilometers of wire behind them would be just highly impractical. So they already have a much better alternative. But still, cool idea.

Every Voidspren and Fused is a splinter of Odium. Passion! The Vessel might not like disagreement but the power loves it. It was mentioned in the Sja-anat interlude in RoW. Shades? The Evil on Threnody? It's very likely they are Ambition's splinters, But Ambition was only hurt on Threnody, she was Splintered somewhere else. We've seen how unmaking sprens works with the Sibling. Raboniel infused them with Voidlight which would corrupt them and unmade them. This is likely how all Unmade were made, as they are called this way. So Unmades were once powerful sprens of some other Shard (maybe even Adonalsium's) but were infused with Voidlight and Unmade. And the most important thing, splinters like spren can have a separate intent from their Shard, so Unmades don't have to share Odium's intent. Odium also didn't plan to stay on Roshar and fight in Desolations. So I doubt that he would invest in Unmades before coming to Roshar, as he had no reasons to weaken and bind himself to a system yet. After he was trapped on Roshar he couldn't get Ambition's splinters as they were far away from him.

What Would You Do, Rashek Edition

There was less ash in the southern hemisphere, so no ash cloud, but it was still there, significantly cooling the region down to livable conditions. But that's not why Malwish survived. Temperature in the southern hemisphere was still much higher than in the northern hemisphere, humans there had to adapt to the new environment and evolve. They did it over 1000 years, but this could still likely end with their extinction. Just look at Malwish after the Catacendre. 10 years of average Earth temperature and their entire society collapsed, many died because of "cold", which was not so different from temperatures in the northern hemisphere. Their bodies evolve to adapt to much hotter temperatures, but evolution is random, so putting everyone on the south pole and hoping they adapt to a new harsh environment would be a very stupid thing. There is even mention in BoM ch 21 that during the Final Empire, oceans close to the equator were boiling. Evolution in Cosmere happens on much shorter timescale than in reality: Rashek found a way to help them survived without changing their genetics: This one explains how they've adapted: Yeah, I agree, volcanic ash cooling down Scadial by 300 degree Celcius is far too much to be realistic. But ash still can have significant cooling effects. If one volcano eruption like Krakatoa or Tambora can drop global temperatures by 1 degree for several years, then several volcanoes pomping ash into the atmosphere every single day, for 1000 years, would drop global temperatures by dozens of degrees. So it's just a bit exaggerated, but still based on real life events of volcanic winter and impact winter. Like Brandon once said, he writes fantasy not hard sci-fi. As long as there are ice caps on mountains around them, which provides water, then yes, without them this would be a deserted wasteland. Maybe Malwish were placed on such plateau TLM spilers: -
What Would You Do, Rashek Edition
alder24 replied to SwordNimiForPresident's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Not really, Vin messing up with Scadrial proved changes were necessary. And volcanic ash generated on one side of the planet would cool down the whole planet. "The year without summer" - 1815 eruption of Mount Tambora caused year 1816 and the following to be extremely cold across the whole world, in the Northern Hemisphere during summer snow fell in many places. HoA ch 76 ch 77 ch 82 Temperature at which the wood ignites is between 250 and 600 °C. This is far greater than 30 °C. And far above boiling temperature of water, which would likely boil away whole water in decades or less (I've seen estimates that at 100 °C of surface temperature it would take 2 years or 168 years (at ~0.5 AU) to boil away all of Earth's water. No idea how accurate, I can't do that math). So Scadrial is probably closer to the orbit of Mercury than Venus. -
Yeah, I spent too much time lastly arguing with people about compounding. Definitely too much. And this particular topic about TLM has also been argued by me a few times since the book's release. But I had a nice time discussing it with you again

aons and stamps outside of Sel
alder24 replied to Blue-phoenix186's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
The local limitations on Selish magic is because investiture was pulled into Cognitive Realm from Spiritual Realm where it usually is. Because SR is spaceless, one can access it anywhere in Cosmere. But CR is not spaceless, it has the same dimensions as Physical Realm, and locations in CR correspond to locations in PR. City of Elantris is a giant Aon that draws Investiture from CR into PR. Each Aon you draw forms a connection to the location you're drawing from, and because you're drawing investiture from CR, you need to be keyed to that specific location you are drawing from. What Would You Do, Rashek Edition
alder24 replied to SwordNimiForPresident's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That won't work. Earth's moon blocks only a small portion of sunlight during a solar eclipse and affects only a small region. You can't put a moon too close, because it will be ripped apart by tidal forces. And you have the power of Preservation, you can't create, you would have to take a portion of Scadrial and form a moon out of that. He didn't do anything to them, they were his "control" group in case he messed up humans with his genetic changes. And you are still outside the Goldilocks zone, oceans will boil. -

Colors, was I a bad boy? There is a very big, unprotected pipeline running from Sel to Scadrial, so just drill a little hole in it, put a tap in there and take a glass of Dor whenever you want. Don't get caught. Move to Taldain and praise the Sun. Hemalurgy, either steal Feruchemy, and feed on stored attributes, or steal Allomancy, and burn metals. Medallions. Move to Scadrial. Mists are often everywhere. So just trap them in a jar and do what Vasher is doing on Roshar. Become an Aetherbound. Find any perpendicularity and just take a sip every week Nobody will notice. I wonder what would happen if I became a Dawnshard. Would I slowly consume it or would Dawnshard self protect and I would have a very bad time trying to feed on it? Or would I just consume my Returned Breath and drop the Dawnshard? Would I even still be Returned and require feeding? Became rich and pay people to bring you Breaths from Nalthis. Move to Sel, every week cut yourself, or pretend to be ill and go ask Elantrians for a general healing. The tricky thing about using Allomancy/Feruchemy to feed your Divine Breath is that the "feeding" takes place every 7 days and is an instant event, so you would need to provide access to that amount of investiture at once when the "feeding" time comes, as tapping metalmind for a week won't feed your Divine Breath. Unless there is a way to overwrite that and feed investiture into Divine Breath when you want. Maybe Vasher does it, because how he feeds during Weeping?
