Do you need to be burning metals for leeching to leech them away? Because leeching doesn't grant any ability to their target, it just sucks out investiture and metals. So if you need to be burning metals for leeching to work on you, non-allomancers can't be leeched, but if you just need to have metals in you without burning them, non-allomancers should be also leechable. In BoM ch 7, Wax was burning metal (I think to at least see steel lines) In the next chapter Marasi met the Leecher, who tried to use a cube on her, but she wasn't burning metal, yet still had it. However it is unclear if Leecher charged the cube, because the train was slowed down and he fell on the ground, losing the cube, which Marasi picked up. He didn't throw the cube, so he likely didn't activate it. TLM spoilers:

Wax asked Allik about making medallions with more than 3 sets of powers, and about wearing multiple medallions, not about creating the Bands. But you can craft medallions just by using Mistings and Ferrings, the Bands might be different - or not. There is also a difference in how nicrosil in medallions works, and how it works in the Bands. In medallions it is similar to how copperminds work and don't get used up, but in the Bands it was noted by Wax that Nicrosil is getting used up and soon they might need to compound it to get it back. So theoretically, if the first ability added to the nicrosilmind in the Bands was the Feruchemical nicrosil, then you can give it to all 31 Mistings and Ferrings who would tap it, gain ability to use nicrosilminds and store their own power there, give back F-nicrosil and pass the Bands to next Misting/Ferring. Spook might be alive: Surely no Fullborn was involved! But those are good questions. I don't believe Kelsier placed the Bands in that temple, I think they were stolen from him. Kelsier wants to popularize metal arts, so placing the tool that gives them to everyone in a remote place doesn't make sense. The only reason he might have done that is because he wanted to lead to early discovery of Malwish and Basin, and spark conflict that would encourage technological progress. And Kels had to give Malwish medallion tech, otherwise they would have died!

Not to be confused with Nicrosil, with which you can burn someone else's metals instantly and give them all power from it, like duralumin. Leeching burns away the target's metals, without giving him any powers from that metal. And because both aluminum and chromium physically destroy metals, this would likely mean that if non-allomancer has metals in him, you could still leech them out of him When Feruchemist is filling a metalminds, investiture is in the form of kinetic investiture, so you should be able to leech it as well. And it would apply to duralumin/aluminum and nicrosil as well. You could likely nicroburst a Feruchemist, that would be interesting.

The biggest evidence that those are different metals and Mistings is in Snapping in HoA and math of it. 1/16 of those Snapped by Mists were made into Misting of one, specific metal. Those who were ill the longest became Atium Mistings (alloyed version). But that was still only 1/16 of them. Because Atium and Malatium were both inserted by Preservation to base Allomantic set of powers, and replaced 2 other metals (bendalloy and cadmium), this means it has to be like I said, electrum and atium-electrum Mistings are separate, otherwise 2/16 of Snapped would be Atium Mistings, and would be ill the longest. This wasn't the case. And then again, Misting can only burn one metal. The same applies for atiummind and Feruchemy.

Is "invested metals" referring to metalminds or god metals? There is a more recent WoB saying that leeching would work on Feruchemist only when he is tapping his metalminds. It might be both, but intent is required - Leecher won't burn away metalminds if he doesn't want to.
-
Not really, 4 spikes and more give Ruin full control over them. Koloss are an example, Ea 2 talks about it as well. And as WoB says, there are "reasons" for that. We just don't know it. After all its god metal, and maybe there is a way to do something more with it than just regular Feruchemy and Allomancy. We have no confirmation if Inquisitors have F-electrum. They could have gotten them, but "determination" is already provided by Ruin's control over them. Marsh is fully obedient to every Ruin's command.

It was a god metal dagger, and a god metal exist in all 3 realms at the same time. And leeching a Shardblade would be very, very, very difficult and beyond the power of Allomancer
-
This can already be done by normal Smokers, they just aren't skilled enough with copper to discover it. EDIT: I found an interesting WoB about some Atium alloys:

Best power set to fight a knight radiance
alder24 replied to bmcclure7's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Oh please, not again Atium spike stealing Bondsmith power from a spren and Duralumin spike stealing connection from Bondsmith - both granting you Bondsmith powers, with which you can steal Radiant powers for yourself With the other 2 spikes steal Elantrian-ness from Elantrian, and his Connection to the Dor - so you can become Elantrian. Twinborn powers - steel compounding. Cool set of powers. Get a few jars of purify Dor with you and you rule. But let's just say without something that complicated. Twinborn ability you say. Then steel compounding. Speed is an extremely overpowered advantage. Then for spikes F-pewter, F-gold, F-zinc, A-chromium. Get to Radiant fast, break his plate with strength, punch him in the head and stab a sword into his spine, while also leeching. It would work quite well against the majority of Orders. You could steal a surge of Gravity or Transformation and Transportation from Fused, which would allow you to fight on more equal ground with Windrunners/Skybreakers and Elsecallers. And give you also the ability to use Voidlight to power not only those surges, but likely Allomancy and Feruchemy. Or take aluminum offensive spike, and go to CR and spike Radiant's spren, taking away his powers and also Radiant's powers. Win-win. -
I'm reading The Stormlight Archive for the first time
alder24 replied to Amira's topic in Stormlight Archive
She wasn't a Surgebinder. That girl was a thief and she tried to assault Darkness with a deadly weapon. Which for him is enough to kill her. Not because he was a target, but because of the law, which punishes assault with a weapon on law enforcement officers with death. That's why he killed her. He is emotionlessly obsessed with following the law to the letter. You should know who he really is by now. Did you catch Wyndle's words that Darkness also has a spren? -
Fullborn V.S. 5th Ideal Windrunners
alder24 replied to Wits instant noodles's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Fullborn can do what Wax does, and reduce his mass drastically to gain speed when flying. A lot of speed. And then lose all of that by tapping F-iron. Windrunner can't maneuver like that. It does? Vin finding Elend's assasinss? Inquisitor finding Kel when Vin was exiting Canton building at the begginig of TFE? Not necessarily. Usually steelpushes and ironpulls are applied to the object's center of mass, but both Wax and Kelsier can push on every point of a metal object. So theoretically Fullborn can push an object by the center to the Windrunner's side, and then push on a side of the object, sending it in an arched way into Windrunner. While it's possible, it's likely very complicated, so it won't be used often.- 456 replies

Spoilers from OB and RoW are allowed here. It's not like that. All those actions Kaladin took before this moment were "us vs them". Protecting people close to him from those who just want to hurt them. Good vs evil. This mental image was already cracked during the battle on the Tower in WoK, when Kaladin found that he respects Listeners, and they are just like him in some ways. But in OB this changed dramatically, when he decided to help a group of Singers, whom he followed. They weren't evil Voidbringers that wanted to destroy the world, they were just lost people, former slaves who escaped like Kaladin, and want to be free, want to have family and protect those close to him, like this one little girl. They were just like Kaladin, he saw himself in them, he saw Teft, Rock, Lopen and other members of Bridge 4 in those Singers. He helped them, taught them, befriended them and created another "Bridge 4", a family, a group of people close to him. Those he cares about. During the Kholinar siege he did it again with the Wall Guard. That was another group of people close to him. But he constantly wants to save everyone that's close to him from harm. And when those two groups met in Kholinar palace, when his Parsh friends met his new Kholinar friends, his whole heart said he needed to protect both of them simultaneously. They all are his friends, people he cares about, his Tien. But how could he do this when they themself didn't see it this way? When they started to kill each other, slicing and stabbing? How can he protect them all, like he sworn in his Oaths, when now he needed to kill one his group of friends to save the other one? That was the only decision he could make, during active siege, active fight. There is no incapacitating people during a battle. Maces or hammers don't incapacitate people, they kill them, even more brutally than a sword (just smack a hammer into a watermelon and see what happens). In this very moment he had to follow the Oath he swerved, and he personally wanted to protect those he cares about, but he cares equally about both of them, so how can he kill one group of people he cares about to save the other group he cares about? He couldn't. He just wanted them to see it in the same way he saw it, that they are both the same, they are both his friends and they shouldn't fight with each other. They didn't see it. They all fought for different reasons than Kaladin. Previously all the other times when he acted, he fought against people he didn't know, he didn't care about. This time he had to fight against his friends. Kaladin can’t do it. Who could do it and kill people he cares about? The same goes for Moash. Kaladin never accepted the fact that Moash betrayed him. He still viewed him as part of Bridge 4, as his friend, someone who he can bring back to the family. That's why Kaladin could never do anything about him, as he still cares about him. Battle shock, or combat stress reaction, is a real thing. People get overwhelmed during battle, can acquire serious long term mental problems, and can even freeze. During WW1, shell shock was a serious issue, common among soldiers. In some battles, like battle of the Somme, 40% of casualties were shell-shocked. Kaladin got overwhelmed by his own mind, unable to protect those he cared about. When I was reading OB, and I read about Kaladin helping Singers, I knew he will seriously suffer from this soon. I fully expected him to freeze during some important battle, because he will face his new Parsh friends on the other side. And this was exactly what happened. Edit: Trauma can manifest in many ways. It's not just about freezing and doing nothing, it's about doing unpredictable and unreasonable things during a battle. Kaladin screaming "stop", was that. He froze, unable to do what he should do, and all he could do was to shout to them to stop.

"Willing contestor" kind of prevent Odium from doing what you're describing. And Nightblood is still a sword, in possession of Szeth. Nightblood won't understand what duel of champions is about. Wild idea, but won't work, when Dalinar can just walk to him, pick him up, and throw him off the Tower. Or steel his Connection that makes him "alive" which would kill him.
-
Yes, Radiant healing is a bit too strong. That's what I like about Warbreaker and Mistborn series:
-
It has to be a willing champion. Why would Nightblood even agree to something he doesn't even understand? Well, Dalinar is an unchained Bondsmith, he is more dangerous than Nightblood, he can mess something up with his Connections. The handle is part of Nightblood. Nightblood's repulsion and possession effects are weaker when a person has a strong will. Dalinar won't be affected by Nightblood. Odium has no connection to him, he can't just speak to him. Odium can speak freely only to those he has connection to, otherwise he needs Everstorm.

The effects of metals in different invested arts aren't the result of Allomancy, it's the opposite, the effects of Allomantic metals are the result of general Cosmere phenomenta or natural law that affects metal giving them spiritual properties. Allomancy is simply another representation of this. So the effects of Aluminum aren't because of the Allomantic properties of Aluminum, but the other way around, Allomantic effect of Aluminum is because of spiritual properties of Aluminum. Fabrials are complicated, it's not the type of metal that defines how it works, it's mostly the type of spren trapped in the gem, and type of gem used for fabrial. Metal in fabrials changes things like range, power or direction of the fabrial's effects. I haven't read ToTES yet, so I can't say anything about it.
-
I'm honored. Feel free to do it.
-
Nightblood's sheath is made out of aluminum. And it isn't a part of Nightblood, nor was it a part of Awakening of Nightblood, it's only function is to contain him.
-
I disagree, Nightblood was already oversaturated with Investiture, that's why he's leaking it in form of black smoke. He can't fit much more of it, because he is already full. If Nightblood was indeed not in the state of food coma after eating Rayse, but was after collapsing Dalinar's perpendicularity, it means that Vessel holds a relatively small amount of Investiture, even compared to Nightblood. The longer he is being drawn, the faster he consumes Investiture. But he leaks it as well. So I don't know that in current times he is getting more invested over time, because if he can get full and fall into a coma state, this is likely the limit of how much investiture he can hold. So he is likely now remaining on a stable level, which drops because of leakage, but gets filled again when he is being drawn.
-
They are metalminds, but the nicrosil portion of medallion works differently than a normal Feruchemist’s nicrosilmind. And medallions have more self-identity than normal metalminds.
-
Haha, me too. When Nightblood appeared I thought "cool, evil version of Shardblades"... Then I remembered there was a sword like that in Warbreaker and thought "fun easter egg", before reading on Coppermind about this whole Cosmere thing - my mind was blown. Who would believe that all those books can be in the same universe, especially when in two separate series, there is a sword that looks the same, talks the same, leaks black smoke, and has the same hobby of destroying evil? Nah, that's too hard to figure it out. So yeah, I was stupid.
-
That's not Steel Inquisitor, that's Pewter Inquisitor! The hooded one looks cute But why does he have a short version of Oathbringer?
-
If you haven't read "Warbreaker" yet, you should do it. It will clear some things up. But we still don't know how and why Nightblood got to Roshar.
-
It's not the case of just being invested, it depends on what type of investiture is used for that investment. Stormlight is heavily connected to Roshar and its Shards, and thus can't be taken away from it, without breaking that connection first (which for now is not possible). But there are other forms of investiture that have no such limitations. One of which is Breaths. Breaths are given to Nalthians with "no strings attached", because that is the nature of Endowment, she just gives it away for people to use it as they wish. Nightblood was created with the use of Breaths, so he doesn't have that connection which would prevent him from leaving Nalthis. The same thing applies to Returned Divine Breath, that's why they can just leave Nalthis without any problem - Heralds, who also are Cognitive Shadows like Returned, can't.

I don't know if I understand you. You want to "program" metalmind so it would always be tapped by you, even when you're sleeping? I don't think so? Maybe by some identity manipulation, because medallions can be used when sleeping, but medallions have some level of self-identity, metalminds don't. And what about tapping nicrosil and filling a metalmind? I don't understand you here at all. If you don't have a power, and you have it in nicrosilmind, you can only fill certain metalmind when you're tapping that nicrosilmind and gaining that metal power, when you stop, you can't access that metalmind. Tapping and filling metalminds aren't separate powers of Feruchemy, they are just one power of Feruchemy, so you likely can't block metalmind to just filling/tapping phase.
