Mid-Range Game 25: Lowborn Intrigue
Walin replied to TheMightyLopen's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I won't have much time tomorrow, so I'll start my RP for tonight. Also, I'll keep it ambiguous enough to not conflict with the first rollover summary. Nerkel walked into the barracks after his first bridge run. He was exhausted, and almost regretted his conversation with Skemmet. The guy started joking about how his commanding officer had used some destructive tactics and gotten some of his friends killed needlessly. "Yeah, I saw some Sadeaspren around him that day. Never going to forgive him after that, the stupid lighteyes," Skemmet had said. A second passed and his eyes then widened a bit, but Nerkel hadn't noticed. Obliviously, Nerkel replied, "You must mean I'mstupidspren, 'cause I've seen that around a bunch of lighteyes for the past week. One supposed surgeon actually stabbed me and wrapped the wound, saying 'I wanted to see if my knife could still cut bandages.'" A captain with a pretty high-ranking glyphpair had been walking past and reached hearing distance by the time Nerkel had started talking. He was pulled to the bridge crew barracks snickering uncontrollably at the irony of the situation. Hopefully, this would all blow over and Nerkel could keep his sanity. My reasoning always has been dependent on humor, and if I can't have jokes... Nerkel sighed morosely and sat down for the night.- 433 replies

Mid-Range Game 25: Lowborn Intrigue

Since this is my first RP, how do you roleplay in SE? I've looked at other MR's and all the role playing seems to be just voting and calling other people suspicious. Can we give lines or non-action verbs for the character to do to set up tension or stuff? As a side note, is that what we're always supposed to do, and the people I saw were just metagaming about votes?- 433 replies

Signing up as Nerkel, a guy who was caught saying that Sadeaspren must really be I'mstupidspren. Doesn't regret that because he thought it was brilliant.- 433 replies

Welcome to the Shard! Avoid the cookies, unless you want to become a member of the Dark Alley. Have a good time posting, and browsing if you haven't done that before becoming a Sharder!

That's a really good theory. I was kind of oblivious to the fact that if Odium had to choose a champion, then Cultivation and Honor would have to as well. I'm thinking that Odium would have to put enough Investiture into a person to make them his champion that it would give Spiritual signals, and Cultivation could then choose someone with the proper skillset to take that person down. (Kind of like Gary in Red and Blue, or FireRed and LeafGreen)

Hi there, it's me. I should probably say something already.

Great to see another Sharder! I'm probably not the best one to reply to you, as you can see by my post count. What's your favorite book by Brandon--All, cosmere-only, or non-cosmere? Have you read any books that are similar in style to the Cosmere (other than WoT)? -
Any Stories You Avoid Because of the Author?
Walin replied to Draginon's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I dunno, I don't really avoid stuff from a specific author; well, not much anyways. I remember that when I was like 13 or so, my grandma told me Rick Riordan was super athiest and made the Percy Jackson series to counteract the Chronicles of Narnia series. I really loved the CoN books, and I had read the Percy Jackson series and some of the second book series, etc. but that comment turned me off his books for about a year, and after that I was already a bit past the target age for the books. I know I can go back and read them, but I don't really want to anymore. Other than that, I would only discriminate book choices by author if I knew the author's writing style and genre, and knew those to be different than what I would want to read (Like Game of Thrones [explicit], Robert Stanek [3rd grade writing ability], etc.) -
Rock climbing-wait that's not a job Lumber cutting, the Plate in case you say "Timber!" too late Tug of rope-wait that's not a job Building stuff real fast, Shardplate for lifting and Shardblade for cutting stuff into sections fast If it was a then gemstone cutting would be remarkably efficient-make a or sommat.

I thought that nicrosil stores some Kinetic Investiture, and maaaybe Innate Investiture. I'm thinking that Identity is kind of a Cognitive tag for letting you act with Investiture--it won't grant you Allomancy, but determines whether you can summon a shardblade, retrieve Breath, and tap metalminds. So I think that nicrosil is, in fact, the metal that grants Feruchemy, not aluminum. It would have to be an unkeyed metalmind, though.

-Dalinar gets rid of another Shardblade, since of his previous pace of one per book. It's not going to be the Stormfather, because that should be the finale of Book 5, when the Final Desolation is over and it's "okay again" to do another Recreance (because I assume they did it without fear since a Desolation wasn't happening) -Shallan learns how to do sound with her Lightweaving, and Kaladin can Lash without line-of-sight being parallel to the Lash direction. Renarin will Lightweave a vision of his, which will be so bad the people watching it will be rendered catatonic for the next hour.

I would look at anything Hoid says or an offhand observation a character makes about some bystander or one-off, unnamed character. We know (or think?) the "ardent" sketching the Bridge Four barracks in WoR is Nazh, and that was a very backgroundy event. Also, look at the stuff Mraize's collection has; I could only identify like five, and three with the help of Arcanum Unbounded. Hopefully you find something interesting to post about and get some upvotes! (I know I'm all about garnering them upvotes)

Alright then, sounds good. Hopefully I'll get to ask that at a signing or something. @Weltall and @Aleksiel seem to have finished their discussion, so unless I'm mistaken this thread is done and will get buried under new posts soon?

Assuming that you can have two nahel bonds, you would be pretty broken (as in 'insane' (mental) and 'overpowered' (power) ). My unreplied theory was that a split personality Radiant could have one spren for each personality, allowing for upwards of even two. I'm now realizing that, while that removes the limitations of an unstable Radiant, it also removes the benefit of combined surges. I didn't really have a question, @Watchcry but I was wondering whether a Lightweaver aspect could come to terms with their other personality (ies) without merging them and losing the extra bond. Perhaps all personalities could have awareness of each other but be separate enough to continue being of different orders. I also wasn't really frustrated as much as confused that a single thread would juggle two ideas at once instead of attempt to consolidate all three into a single discussion, like what usually happens.
-
Seems like everyone in this thread is either a Radiant or a spren, seeing as people are replying to just one of three running topics and usually between two people; I haven't bonded yet so my questions aren't getting answered, that's the only reason I'm mentioning it really. What's the first Order Oath (second Ideal) for getting a well-versed Sharder to "bond with" (answer questions for) you? I'm guessing it's "I will follow the theory threads as much as possible," or something like that.
-
I'm guessing that you come out in a similar spot to where you were in the Cognitive Realm, so I guess it depends on the size of the Cognitive imprint: city > road > abandoned settlement > ocean > space, in terms of preciseness where you come into the Physical Realm.
-
Whoops, I double posted
-
The only combo unavailable to a split personality is one with a Cryptic, since the Lightweaving personality would have to come to terms with their two personalities and possibly merge them, removing the second spren. Regardless, this person would be pretty broken anyways (both in terms of power level and Spiritual aspect). Perhaps a Surgebinder with one spren and one Honorblade could pull off a Double Order from Honor King (McHonor? Stormfather's?).
-
To be the spoilsport here, remember that spren fill the cracks in a soul. To have enough instability to bond *two* spren, you'd either end up with a Zane (Szeth but more)-like madman who may crash their bonds real quick-like. OH WAIT- what if you have a Radiant with multiple personality disorder, with one order per personality? That would be pretty stinking cool, actually.

At least he'll have two years less to wait between Oathbringer and Songs of Listeners (if the titles continue to be in-world media works related to the flashback character; crossing my fingers this isn't like the Eragon-Eldest-Brisingr outrage that I was too young to experience)
-
I can't do that, but I can comment to bring this thing back up to the first page for an answer. Alas, I'm only skilled enough in thread necromancy to bring back a dead thread, but not enough to insert a Magic card image.
-
I just realized, after reading the thread about Miles' death and the RAFO of whether it was a death rattle, that Odium may have jumped to Scadrial and Harmony is holding him back. Wax's conversation with Harmony and the mention of the red miasma sounds like Trell, and is either Taln's Scar attempting to expand... or Odium. Also, that could be a suitable ending for Stormlight 5, because it's the *Final* Desolation, before Odium leaves Roshar for good (evil, I mean). The back 5 would be about trying to unSplinter Honor. I hope this topic doesn't end up like my "Harm mores" theory which was disproven explicitly in the text itself.

I think that since you have to sleep to fill bronze, not just be extra tired, tapping bronze does all the sleep things for you. I saw this TED talk where it explained the lymph-like system in the brain that pretty much only functions in sleep. Being tired to fill bronze would cover that, but Sazed's internal thoughts said you enter a coma-like state, maybe granting all the benefits of sleep when you tap bronze. The only negative effect of bronze here would be the feeling of loneliness during the times when no one else is awake and you don't have much to do. Were the negative effects of gold that The One Who Connects mentioned just the mental delusions of having incredible healing power? Because that would be on par with bronze's effect of disillusionment: an effect that is not directly from the power, but the having of such power. PS How do you use "having" in a sentence like that without sounding like High Imperial?
