  3. Hello everyone! As Era 4 is rapidly approaching, the mod team has decided that we will be opening character submissions for Era 4 early, so that we can avoid a big backlog once the Era starts! Please post any submissions you have in the alleyverse characters thread. Also, if you want to have your Era 3 character transferred into Era 4, please make a post in the alleyverse characters thread letting us know which characters need to be transferred and if anything needs to be changed on them. - Alleyverse Mod Team.
  4. Mac shifted his thoughts away from his past and back to the present as the fight began in earnest. He watched carefully, tapping F-zinc so that he wouldn't miss it. He saw the asteroid appear, and begun tapping it, trying to guess the size of the asteroid, and the size of the alley that could contain it. Storm it, He thought, giving up on guessing and instead reached for the largest alley he could think of: Alley 65938byt123. It was about 50 miles from one end to the other, and as far as they could tell it had no ceiling or floor. They often used it as a training ground for spaceships, and a garbage disposal. Mac 'pulled' it closer to him, placing it beneath the asteroid and watched as the asteroid fell through the invisible doorway, disappearing into the alleys. Moving quickly, Mac readjusted the alley as he saw Ajax create a second one, this time the size of a city block. Again, the entrance would be just big enough to catch the chunk, though catch was probably the wrong word. He shook his head, he could worry about how to describe alleymatics when he wasn't concerned with saving the city. While nothing yet had been that big of a challenge, it was always best to focus on the task at hand. Remember the motives and purpose later, right now, he had a job to do. He kept an eye on the battlefield, everything moving in slow motion as he tapped his Zincminds, and saw the chunk of aluminum appear. He almost laughed at Ajax's ignorance. While he couldn't stop the Aluminum using investiture, the alleys would be able to easily handle it. He moved Alley 65938byt123 underneath it, and then watched with satisfaction as it fell into the alleys. Just like how aluminum would go straight through a gateway from Randland, when a door to a alley was open it would fall right in. I hope he isn't trying to fight a visually impressing fight, He thought, Alleymatics is rather visually underwhelming.
  5. A fox! i like foxes. 9/10 because that’s a weird fox with a lot of legs.

  7. Rusts and Ruin, Mac reached out with the alleys, instinctively calling them toward where the people would land, and right as they were about to hit the ground, they were warped into an alley. Quickly, Mac shoved alleys aside to create a safe path to the more real world. Why would he attempt to kill 7 Innocent people? He didn't even destroy to make a valuable point, he just destroyed to make conversation. He was the epiphany of everything Mac despised. Not even worthy to be given a show. He longes to reach out with the alleys, and warp every cell of his body to a different place. Or to warp an essence spike through him, stealing his soul and letting it slowly decay on its path to the beyond, never fully making it, always stuck in between two places for the rest of time. Such a fate was what was deserved by Ajax. Mac felt a certain familiarity as he moved the alleys into position. He remembered when he had done this before. Placing the alleys so that the man would never see his killer. So that he would suffer and feel every ounce of pain that he caused them. He placed an essence spike at the start of the alleys. As it fell through each consecutive alley it would accelerate, building speed until it warped into a carefully placed alley in his chest cavity. If Mac was careful enough, its velocity would place it right at the bind point, and remove Ajax's soul in one blow. Right before he let the spike go, the memory returned, stronger. Mac remembered the look of shock on the man's face as a metal spike moving hundreds of miles per hour smashed into his chest, and he remembered elsecalling into the Cognitive realm so he could watch as the soul of the man slowly decayed away. He remembered listening to his screams, and watching as the man struggled to escape the spike his soul had been attached to. Then he vividly remembered the lack of satisfaction he felt. He thought, incorrectly, that it was because he wasn't strong enough yet. He thought it was because he didn't completely destroy the soul, and only imprisoned it, and that he killed him from a distance, without showing him who killed him. But this time as he relieved it, he realized that it wasn't because he wasn't powerful enough. It was because it never brought her back. The first person he met in this world. The person who showed him love as only a mother could. He didn't feel satisfied because he was too late. By the time he killed the man, he didn't kill him to save her, he killed him in revenge. And he had forgotten why he tried to gain the power. This time he would not. He warped the unused essence spike away, slid the spike back into his shirt, and let the alleys go. Last time I tried to stop someone like Ajax, I was too late. This time I'm not. I won't kill to destroy, or seek revenge, I will kill to protect those who can't protect themselves. Mac looked around, seeing the buildings that were closest to them. Despite their evacuation efforts, they were still full of people. People who had done nothing to deserve this. People who's parents and grandparents came to the alleyverse for the Utopia that he promised. They couldn't help themselves, so like his Mother once did to him, Mac did his best to help them. He carefully started to take the alleys and place them in between objects around the battlefield, forming a protective dome. Whether it was two columns, or two air molecules, when something tried to go through those alleys, they would be warped away. Then he waited for Ajax to attack. To hurt and destroy more innocent lives. To make Mac want to kill him even more.
  8. It would easily work, the main issue is that they wouldn’t switch bodies until they started swearing oaths, which happened a fair bit after the initial mind breaking. A side effect of the epic power works well.
  9. I would put the DID at 25 points, and the second oath as 10 points. That would mean: 110+30+40-5-10-25=140. The character is approved! I'm heading out the door to work right now, but I will add it to the list later.
  10. Mac carefully watched the battle happening from the intelligence room, his face grim and unyielding as it took in information from the dozens of screens. Ajax has killed and hurt thousands. Mac looked at the screens showing blocks being vaporized, lives being torn apart as everything people worked for was gone in seconds. He destroys randomly, without control. Like I used to. Mac thought back to when he used balefire, feeling a pang of shame for everything that he utterly destroyed for the sake of destruction. Why had he done that? As if in response, memories from thousands of years ago began to surface. Memories of a man who destroyed his life. A man who taught him wrongly that to be strong you must lose control. A man who Mac emulated so that he could beat. A man who started Mac's path down the Alleys. Like that man, Ajax would pay for the lives he wrecked. Mac shook his head, as if it would clear it. He had been a different person then. A child. He was a new man now. There was no need to remember the old now that something new was there. He refocused on the fight and watched as the other department heads moved in from the outside. Good. He thought, They would teach Ajax a lesson. Not for the same reasons that I would, but a lesson nonetheless. As he settled in to watch the final battle, a little voice in the back of his head asked him. Why are you just watching quietly? Are you a child again? Unable to fight and defend those who need it? He blocked the voices out. The inadequate thoughts and negative whispers rarely let up since he had nearly died when Voidus was released, so he learned to ignore them. But deep down, he realized he didn't have an answer to them. For once, they were telling him to do something concrete, as opposed to telling him he wasn't good enough. Do you remember why you joined the Dark Alleys? Why you started this quest for knowledge and power? Yes, he replied. The image of a man beating his wife flashing through his head, almost too quickly to notice. Then why don't you fight? This time, a different voice replied. Because I'm not good enough. Voidus and the others are better at fighting, more powerful than me. I would only get in the way. Lies, The first voice shot back, You are the Master of the Alleys, a man who is a better spy then them all put together. You wield the Voids magic. Go out there, and remember why you started to fight. Do what you set out to do all those years ago. Protect those who cannot protect themselves. With each phrase, Mac realized that the first voice was right. He could contribute, despite his weakness. At the very least he saw Walker when he attempted an attack. He could glean something from that. He may not be able to fight, but he could contribute knowledge. He stood up, grabbing his hat and coat, walking out the door and into the warzone. Mac walked up behind Voidus and Aylitha as the Stranger flew up into the air. "Hello sir. While you probably don't need it, we have recordings of all of Ajax's attacks in the battle. You can see that he has soulcasting, shardblades, lashings, and something that managed to disrupt Walkers speed at a distance." He turned to look at Ajax as the stranger prepared to rain damnation down on him from above. "You can do with it what you want." He continued in a whisper "Just, Make. Him. Pay."
  11. Ooh Im sorry! Yeah guys, all credit goes to Zinc for those, I completely forgot to give you credit.
  12. Well in order to find that information out you need to attend a week long workshop on information security, fill out a non disclosure agreement (in triplicate), and agree to support the plot. I can say that it would entail the characters attending seminars, workshops, filling out paperwork, and so much more!
  13. Its Cam Nosnetsroht, Bane of the Dark Alley, Highprince of Pedantry, Filer of Forms and Requirer of Requisites. The supreme Lord Rule-maker. Herald of HR. The Next Main plot is coming, and it's mandatory that you attend.
  14. The poltergeist point count will remain at 800, with the caveat that it is 500 if you only promise to take control of your characters/NPC's. The issue is that the body switching gives you immortality, in addition to being able to give you tons of lives in a fight, finally it basically gives you the abilities of a kandra, without any of the weaknesses. That combination of powers is incredibly OP.
  15. I think that there is a legitimate difference between co-opted investiture and what some would consider corrupted investiture. Corrupt investiture seems to imply something impure, while co-opted seems to imply impure but with an intent. While this may just feel like semantics, I feel that the distinction is important, and we tend to use the terms interchangeably when we shouldn't. All co-opted investiture would be corrupted, but not vise versa. I imagine that what @Notshur is referring to when they say corrupted investiture is co-opted investiture, such as the shades, or glys, or the sets faceless immortals (possibly). For example, it seems to be generally accepted that Nightblood has bits of Ruins investiture in it (IDK if we have WOB confirmation). But this doesn't exhibit the characteristics of co-opted/corrupted investiture that we see normally. Namely, the theme of the color red. This could be because the investiture in nightblood isn't co-opted, but instead is just corrupted. It was a mixing of two shards investiture, but not with an intent by the shard. Who knows, maybe they do mean the same thing, but I've always thought of the terms in that way.
  16. 2 things that I wanted to comment on. 1. Does the first bullet for the first question in the current poll include to all of brandon's books that he's had a hand in writing? like things that he's not the main author in? 2. Another idea for the next era is instead of having a main plot we could have a lot of different side plots with one big final event leading up to the world being changed. I feel like this would allow people to only be involved in things that they feel like they would want to, instead of a big main plot that you might not want to participate in. If there is a main plot, a lot of people can feel pressure to include their characters even if they don't want to participate, but if instead we let there be a bunch of smaller plots then people would be able to pick and choose where they wanted to involve themselves.
  17. The Lead mime mimed to his side mime to spike him. The side mime mimed and actually handed the lead mime a spike that grated the ability to blow a prodigious, but silent, raspberry. Which the lead mime proceeded to do. At Silence.
  18. No one was quite sure what nodded. But they could all agree that something was nodding in satisfaction.
  19. Except he didn't quite realize that this wasn't a war. The poor mime who spoke didn't have a chance.
  20. Suddenly all of the mimes in the room stopped what they were doing and stared at the heretical traitor. Then they started miming shouting savage war cries and mimed beating the offending mime up with large sticks.
