  1. Character Information Name: I-PICK-THINGS-UP-AND-PUT-THEM-DOWN Race:(Ohnyrek) Age: 16 Gender: Male Place of Origin: Tree-horn-tribe Class: Smasher Relationship Status: On Hold. Channeling Capacity: (If Applicable. Remove section if your character has no Ley-based abilities.) -Type: Internal (Strength and healing) -Focus Used: Horns and lucky stone. -Degree of Skill: Very high for an Ohn, mediocre for any other race. Appearance: 10 feet tall, muscular even for an Ohn, oddly golden tint to skin, thick horns with three branches each, with tree-leaves strapped to them. Wears a crystal pendant that looks like an oakleaf. Carries a very big club. Special Skills: Smashing things, shouting. Strengths: Immensely strong, even for an Ohn. Too stupid to die easily (if someone stabbed him through the heart, it would be several minutes before he realized he was supposed to die.) Weaknesses: Boastful, painfully think-headed, inclined to fight other people for no apparent reason. Personality: Pretty much standard Ohn fare. Boastful, thick-headed, belligerent. History: The Ohn stomped into The Graceful Vendris, Mawsbeck’s only tavern. The customers shied away, and several reached for weapons. But despite his bulging muscles, knotted club, and thick horns, this particular Ohn did not seem in the mood for a fight. He tromped up to the bar, dug in a leather pouch at his waist, and threw a fistful of marks of various denominations down on the dusty wooden counter. “Give me keg of beer. Give me pig on stick.” The bartender stretched out a shaky hand and touched the pile of chips, sending a small shock of Lehyt through them. They exploded in a miniature fireworks display, and not a single one broke or failed. The bartender did a little arithmetic on his fingers, and then disappeared into the back room. He returned a minute later rolling a keg of beer, followed by a pair of servants carrying the pig that had been put on to roast. The Ohn leaned over, picked up the keg, and carried it over to a corner. He then returned, grabbed the pig, and retreated to his corner. After about fifteen minutes of noisy munching and gurgling, the Ohn marched up to the stage, still carrying the stick (now with no pig) and the empty keg of beer. He shoved aside the musician (who was only too happy to get out of the way), threw his head back, and began to yell at the top of his lungs. “ROARRRR! ME I-PICK-THINGS-UP-AND-PUT-THEM-DOWN! ME STRONG! ME LIFT BIG LOG! PEAKJUMPER SKULLCRUSHER EIGHT-HUT SITTING ON LOG! TWENTY-BRANCH GREAT-CHIEF SITTING ON LOG! GIANT-MOUNTAIN-WITH-EXTRA-FAT SITTING ON LOG! ME MIGHTY! ME VANQUISH PIG ON STICK! ME VANQUISH KEG OF BEER! ME VANQUISH TWO GENTLEMEN OF TOWN! ME VANQUISH FOUR ORIENTAL KUNG-FU MASTERS! ME IMPORTANT! GREAT-GOLDFIRE-EARTH-SHAKER SEND ME TO FIND CONFLUX! ROARRRRR!"
  2. Further lines: 1. What would you do if you found yourself in a bus, holding hands with a beautiful girl, and with no idea who you were or what you were doing there? 2. So there I was, sitting in a chair, about to change the world forever. 3. Java picked up his machete, slung on his back-basket, and walked into the chocolate forest.
  3. Another point in favor of the lines being mental manifestations is that inquisitors evidently "see" blue lines even though they have no eyes at all. And aluminum is definitely a metal, since it can be burned. I think the allomantic inertness of alumnium is a side effect of its burning properties.
  4. What if TLR gained his powers from the Well? Then we'd have ten beads (8 kings+1 Elend+1 Hoid), and ten is one of the Numbers of Adonalsium.

Your first point is perfectly true, but unless you're going in for professional sports, i don't think that matters. As regards your second example, that's sort of the point. If you have to fight, you want to have the biggest Honorable advantage you can get, so as to make the fighting shorter and less generally destructive.
  6. They probably have all the sparkers, archivists, and spiners in separate classes.
  7. On the edit, i would assume that "metal" is defined the same way in Allomancy as it is on the Periodic table until we hear otherwise.
  8. A few minor notes: First, I'm really looking forward to Zeratul meeting Sayuri. Considering how the Leyari feel about the Ley Lines, her reactions should be...interesting. Second, notes on Hamartian mindspeak: Unless you've practiced controlling your thoughts, your mental messages will be accompanied by a scrim of whatever you happen to be thinking. Hamartians don't usually project random thoughts, because they master mental silence very young. Hamartians do have a sense of hearing, and this coupled with the fact that the vocalized thougts are usually strongest means that they can pick out the intended message. Also, please note that the receiver "hears" the Hamartian speaking in whatever language he (the person receiving the message) thinks in. Third, please note that Zeratul can always sense the state of the Ley Lines in the immediate vicinity, and tell when somebody's channeling.
  9. "Unfortunately, due to a case of mistaken identity, Hercule Poirot was being hunted by the Giant Killer Death Snake of Doom" Top that!

    I'd pick pewter.
  11. On the first issue, the age change has already been implemented. While we're on the topic, I'd always intended the Hamartians to be capable of reproduction and aging. I'll postulate that they have a total lifespan of two-three centuries. On the second, let's say there's a maximum limit to how fast a Grayling can absorb leyht. For example, suppose Zeratul can absorb 100 AHU's of leyht per time unit. If Sayuri throws a 50 AHU bolt at him, he'll absorb all of it and it does nothing. But if she throws a 150 AHU bolt, 50 AHUs will get through and hit him, while the other hundred will be absorbed and do nothing except strengthen him.
  12. Zeratul Hamartian Explorer/Scout. Player Information Name: ReaderAt2046 (for now) Contact Information: Posting ought to work. I keep a good eye on 17thShard. I’ll give you may contact info later if you need it. Character Information Name: Zeratul Race: Hamartian (Grayling) Age: 70 years Gender: Masculine Place of Origin: Shakuras (A pre-Garik city in the far East. Nothing but ruins now.) Class: Soldier/explorer Relationship Status: Channeling Capacity: The Hamartians cannot channel in the conventional sense. Rather, their bodies metabolize the ley energies. This is the only form of nourishment they require, as hinted at by the fact that they have neither noses nor mouths. While the aura around a strong Node is generally enough to sustain them, they always are seeking more. The principle way for them to store up extra leyht is to trick someone into channeling at them, as their bodies can automatically absorb any leyht directed at them. They survive through the Serpent Season off of stored leyht, much as a bear might survive through the winter off of stored fat. Finally, the Hamartians can accelerate the rate at which they metabolize stored Leyht to enhance their physical abilities. This is rarely done, however, since it runs the risk of draining the individual’s stores. Appearance: (Include height, build, hair, eyes, and their general demeanor in your description) Zeratul is about 7 feet tall, with a generally insectoid build. His body is covered in a pale-grey hide, and he has two luminous blue eyes. He is clad in grayish metal armor and carries a pair of katars (swordlike weapons that strap to the wielder's forearms). As noted above, Hamartians have no nose or mouth, communicating via a form of telepathy. If you're familiar with the Protoss from StarCraft, Hamartains look very similar. Special Skills: Swordfighting, ley science. Strengths: Immune to ley attacks, does not need to eat or drink. Also does not need to breathe, and therefore immune to any form of gaseous poison. Weaknesses: The same ley-metabolizing powers that shield him from hostile channeling also mean that he cannot benefit from beneficent channeling. In addition, he is highly unfamiliar with Tolvera, as his race is native to a different section of Xanthuru. His mind-speech will always seem to be in his listener’s native tongue, so he can make himself understood, but he is unfamiliar with the culture. Personality: Rather idealistic, but rational enough to know that most people won’t trust him, especially when they have never met one of his race before. Something of a dreamer. History: You do not know me. You have never seen one of my kind before. That is not suprising. We are the Hamartians. Where we come from, the flesh-coat-no-horns call us Graylings, and other worse things. They fear us, even when we are of use to them. And they have many reasons. First is that we are Neverborn. Our race was not spun into being by The-One-that-Are. Rather, we are a product of the Enlightened’s folly. In the great-rending-power-war, the city of Shakuras was torn to bits by dueling channels. The energies in that place and others produced the Neverborn, creatures and beasts that Great-shaper never created. In our case, it made us forever parasites on the very lifeblood of reality. Our kind feed off the ley-lines as the Green-walkers feed off the sunshine. And that is the second of the reasons the Xantheni hate us. In time, they began to accept us. We proved useful at keeping the channelers under control, for any leyht a channel turns against us only make us yet stronger. But we always existed on sufferance. Shakuras became ours, for the strong node on which it was built kept us fed, while the rouge leyht renders it uninhabitable by trueborn. Some time ago, it became known to the people of Shakuras and its surroundings that it would become necessary for one of my kind to be sent to Tolvera, though we were not told why. But it seemed possible that this quest would help us find the Eternal Conflux. Our kind dream of the Conflux. There we could live almost without fear, for the strength of that place never ebbs, and it would grant us strength and power beyond what we have ever tasted. The Conflux is life and safety to my kind. And that is why I come here.
  13. First, I would like to say that I accept your ruling on Ivy being unsuitable. Is it OK if I try to work out another character concept? Also, just a few minor notes. First, you are perfectly right that zinc has no significance on Xanthuru. However, that was intended purely as an explanation to the players. Second, I knew Ivy would not know what an Ohn was. That was something of a POV slip, since it was intended to mean "Ivy sees something that you would recognize as an Ohn". Thirdly, the D'karon are native to one of my cosmeres, not to yours. Again, i accept your ruling and hope to find another way to enter this. Edit: Is there any rule against enterign multiple characters? Because I've already got three I'd love to use.
  14. I don't think it would destroy the magic systems because i don't think Hoid is reassembling all of Adonalsium. He doesn't have all of Ruin or Preservation or any other shard (as far as we know) so he wouldn't get all of Adonalsium. Instead, he'd get the Adonic equivalent of lerasium (a small quantity of pure Adonalsium). What that would do we can only guess.
  15. You are confusing the Shen and the Parshendi. (I did too, at first). The Shen want pure metal, and they might well be making Plate. The Parshendi grow carapace armor, which is more like very hard wood.
  16. This theory will answer two major questions: 1. Why did the Shards end up on the worlds they did? Brandon has confirmed that they had a lot of choice, but it wasn't absolute. 2. Brandon has confirmed that all ten shardworlds were named before the Shattering. Who named them and why? Alright. My theory is that the people of Origin (whatever planet Adonalsium was on before the Shattering) had developed a way to open magical connections between worlds. (Sort of like in Defending Elysium, where it's mentioned that one alien race discovered FTL travel before inventing the steam engine). The ten shardworlds are the ten worlds that Origin was linked to, and they had been named because people already explored there. Right after the Shattering, the new Shards were able to travel down any one of the links. At the same time, the repurcussins of the Shattering destroyed Origin (thus severing the links) and killed everybody except the Shards.
  17. Dominion makes other people serve you, Devotion makes you serve other people?
  18. I think those are the four new natural metals (cadmium, bendalloy, chomnium, nicrosil) which we already have. 16 is clearly a number of power in the Cosmere, so it woudl make sense that there are 16 natural allomantic metals.
  19. I still think hoid is trying to reassemble Adonalsium from the pure forms of each Shard.
  20. Ivy Wood Experiment, Swordsman, ??? Player Information Name: ReaderAt2046 (for now) Contact Information: Posting ought to work. I keep a good eye on 17thShard. I’ll give you may contact info later if you need it. Character Information Name: Ivy Wood Race: D’karon Malthrope Revision Experiment IV Age: Unknown Gender: Male Place of Origin: D’karon Shaping Laboratory 16, World 51 Class: Warrior Relationship Status: None so far. Channeling Capacity: -Type: Ivy’s ley powers are triggered by his emotions. These discharges visibly manifest as auras of colored light surrounding Ivy. In addition, each aura provides specific powers. Another odd quirk is that each aura produces a zinc-like effect, enhancing the corresponding emotion in anyone nearby. -Focus Used: Ivy’s powers are focused through his emotions. So far, five possible auras have been discovered. Fear: Fear produces the blue aura, which grants Ivy extreme speed and protection from most forms of attack for its duration. However, while in the grip of this aura, Ivy has no awareness of his surroundings or control over his body. Use of this aura can leave Ivy unconscious for hours or days. Anger: Anger produces a red aura, which grants massive strength and destructive power, (in one of the earlier uses of this aura, Ivy single-handedly killed off over 50 dragons.) But like fear, anger renders Ivy mindless for its duration and unconscious for hours afterwards. Joy: Happiness and joy produce the yellow aura, which heals and restores. Its effects can cause wounds to knit shut within seconds, restore an exhausted ally to full strength, or cure a poison or disease. Determination: The white aura of determination effectively focuses Ivy’s entire will and power on accomplishing one task. While in the grip of this gift, virtually nothing can stand in his way. In addition, this aura renders him immune to any form of mental or emotional manipulation. Hatred: Only the deepest and darkest hatreds can invoke this black aura. It manifests as a swirling black mist which rots and corrodes everything it touches. Stone withers and crumbles, flesh and bone are made dust, wood rots and decays. Appearance: (Include height, build, hair, eyes, and their general demeanor in your description) The malthrope race, which formed the prototype for Ivy’s genome, resemble humans covered in reddish fur with two major exceptions: vulpine heads and a long bushy tail. For unknown reasons, Ivy’s fur is almost pure white, except for a black glyph on his forehead. His eyes are also black. He is dressed in a grayish cloak and carries no gear other than two fine swords and a songtree flute. (Songtrees are species of magical tree which act as natural wind instruments. Their wood makes the finest musical instruments in the cosmere). Special Skills: Swordfighting, flute-playing, art . Strengths: Ivy’s greatest natural strengths are derived from the malthrope genome used to create him. He has inherited phenomenal endurance, the ability to survive indefinitely on raw meat, improved senses (especially smell), and considerable physical capacity. The D’karon also gave him an intuitive knowledge of all forms of weaponry, but especially of the twin blades he carries. Shaped by the spellsmith Desmeres, these blades have extraordinary powers. They have, of course, been treated in such a manner as to make them sharp, light, and virtually unbreakable. But the true power of the blades is anchored in the thir crystals embedded in the hilt and blade. These crystals, which possess the power to absorb all forms of magical energy, give Ivy four advantages. First, they render the blades virtually unstealable. If anybody except Ivy or a D’karon touches the blade, the crystals will begin to sap his life force. The effect can kill within a few hours. Secondly, the thir crystals will absorb any leyht they encounter, allowing Ivy to use the swords to block channeling attacks. Thirdly, the energy within the crystals can be used to fuel any of five spells (setting the blades on fire, healing, invisibilty, time dilation, and strength). Fourth, any energy in the crystals after a fear or anger change will be dumped into Ivy. This can shave hours off of the time needed for recovery, and sometimes eliminate it entirely. Weaknesses: Ivy’s greatest weakness is that his memory has been erased. He knows what his powers and weapons do, but has no notion where he came from or who he was. As far as he knows, his life begins in an alley in Tolvera, mere minutes after the Ohn woman dies at the gates. Perhaps as a side-effect of this, Ivy is fairly naïve. He can be vicious when stirred to fight, even when not in the grip of a change, but he is almost wholly without guile. Finally, as noted above, Ivy’s massive ley powers bring with them intense costs. The blue and red auras render him mindless and leave him unconscious for days, while the white aura can leave him exhausted when the effects wear off. Personality: Ivy is exuberant, optimistic, and friendly. He has an intuitive sympathy with outcasts and monsters, perhaps as a result of his D’karon origins. He has a love of music, and a great appreciation for good art. History: Ivy is probably unique among the heroes of StEC in that he is not native to Xanthuru. He was created on a far-away world by a mysterious race called the D’karon. Masters of dimensional travel and genetic manipulations, the D’karon rule an empire consisting of dozens of planets. Out of a number of motives, including sheer curiosity, the D’karon put Ivy into a coma, stripped him of his memory, and sent him through a portal to Tolvera. (Begin Narration) The gray-clad figure stirred, white-furred limbs stretching. He blinked and looked around him. It was a fairly ordinary style of alleyway, narrow and dirty. How had he gotten here? Who am I? Where am I? In an instant, the answer to the first question bloomed in his mind. I am Ivy Wood. The second question, however, remained unanswered. A moment later, he was distracted by movement. A bulky but hornless Ohn came towards him, carrying a club. “Give me those!” it demanded, pointing towards the twin swords on Ivy’s back. “Umm, I’d rather not,” replied Ivy, a little ashamedly. “I don’t think they’re safe for you.” “GIVE! NOW!” When Ivy showed no signs of complying, the Ohn reared back for a crushing club-blow. Instincts Ivy didn’t know he had awoke. His nose told him the Ohn was hungry and enraged, his eyes and nerves told him the thing was unbalanced. In a blur, he lunged forward, a white-furred paw planting itself firmly in the Ohn’s midsection. It went tumbling over backwards and landed with a colossal thump. Ivy did a sort of backflip and landed lightly. A grin split his vulpine face as the Ohn staggered to its feet with a garbage can over its head. A faint golden shimmer filled the air around him, rapidly growing brighter as a torrent of laughter escaped his throat. As the Ohn yanked the can off its head, its eyes widened. It turned and ran as though the Seven Devils were chasing at its heels. Ivy strolled out of the alley. Directly in front of him was a dead Ohn, surrounded by several humans. He was just in time to catch their last words “…speak words that sound of prophecy.”
  21. I think Brandon was trying to get us to see that Rashek and the nobles weren't demons. I agree with you that a lot of what the nobles did was bad, and I think any of the decent ones would agree too. But they weren't unredeemables like kelsier and quellion thought. In short, the nobles are people too.
  22. Has anybody considered that when a Returned uses up a Breath, the energy for it might be returned to Endowment? Sort of like how pewter draws bodily strength from Preservation, while the metal is consumed. So a Returned draws energy from Endowment to live, but has to return breaths to do it.
  23. Thanks!
  24. Your arguments make sense, but I still don't see why this post was downvoted. It seems like i'm being downvoted for expressing my opinion. I don't believe this, so I'm curious to hear the real explanation.
  25. The syllogism of my argument: Atium can be burned because it is the body of a Shard. The Tears are the body of a Shard. Therefore, Allomancy can burn the Tears. I'm not at all certain this argument is right, but I'm quite certain it's reasonable, and I don't think it's worthy of a downvote.
