I don't think freedom is the right word. Instead, I think we can pull from the attributes associated with Jezrien, namely protecting and leadership. And tying it back to the first oath, part of being a leader is acknowledging the journeys of your followers, and respecting their destinations, something Kal isn't very good with. So I agree that the fourth oath will involve allowing people to choose their destinations and respecting that, aka letting them go. Also, windspren are attracting to wind, not air. Small difference, but important. They seem to be attracted to the physical action of a Windrunner riding the air, regardless of what their feeling at the time, so I can't attribute it to the sense of freedom it brings.

When you say compound, are you meaning multiple overlapping bubbles? I hadn't considered using a team originally, but if that's how it works then that's plausible.

It can be used to pass time, Marasi does this on occasion, but I don't think its effective enough for what your thinking. The time still passes, so you'd need food, drink, and you'd have to answer nature's call eventually. So passing a day, maybe even a few, is realistic, beyond that not so much.

Sja-anat has only been show to be able to corrupt, or "enlighten", spren and not people. Nergaoul creates the thrill, which is a battle lust, notably different from the childrens' actions. Even Shallan's father only seems to hurt people out of anger, not battle lust. But of course, we don't know everything about the unmade, so can't fully cancel them out. Pattern was noticed, that's why Shallan's mother tried to kill her. After her mother's death, Shallan's bond with pattern was basically dead, and Pattern with it. For awhile.

I considered that, as there is a pattern to compulsive habits. But all of the observed Ashertmann effects seemed to revolve around weakening inhibitions, not caring, pleasure, and generally positive emotions. The effects seen on Shallan's household include the compulsive habits, but not the others. They're negative emotions grow enough to overcome inhibitions, but the inhibitions themselves don't seem to be attacked. They also still seems to care, too much at times, and none of they're compulsive habits seems to result in pleasure. The involved emotions are much more negative in nature. Instead of a theme of self-indulgence, the Shallan family has a theme of self-destructive(anger, torture, and gambling).

New quote concerning Shallan's family. Brandon has in the past hinted that Odium might have influenced Shallan's family, but now we have confirmation that it was through an unmade. Problem is, I don't know which of the unmade could have caused what we see. So is this one of the as of yet unseen unmade at work? Ba-Ado-Mishram, Chemoarish, or Dai-Gonarthis? A death rattles mentions "....The Black Fisher holds my sorrow and consumes it!". Shallan's family lives in a very negative atmosphere, perhaps Dai-Gonarthis put them in this state to feast on their negative emotions?

Does anyone know what Brandon read during Jordancon?
Wandering Investor replied to MountainKing's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Comparing the Traveler's vendetta to Ati might also be a indirect hint at Odium's apparent Vendetta. Kind of a, Ati's Intent made him a danger to the entire cosmere, and he's not the only one. Or just a direct call to Ati almost destroying a planet, one of the two. -
AonDor is powered equally by Dev and Dom through the Dor, but is heavily influenced by Dev. Notice that many of the Elantrians are described as being heavily devoted to something. Odium took specific steps after killing Dev and Dom to keep the powers from being repaired or gaining sentience. That's why he stuffed them into the cognitive realm. I don't know how that works, but it makes it very unlikely that a new splinter of Dev or Dom could develop intelligence. So Jadeth is most likely a tool of the Skaze.

I meant immediate solid plans. He's made us aware that Hoid has adventures all over the place all the time, but anytime he's asked about it, he just says in the future, like for Liar or Dragonsteel. Hadn't heard Hoid as a main character in Era 4, that's neat! -

That almost sounds like fain life to me. Yolen short story? Considering Brandon doesn't have plans to write about Hoid and also the timeline for when this must have taken place, this strikes me as internal writings. Small writings about crucial, but small events, for internal consistency... or just for fun, but not for actual publication. -
Keep in mind, the Sand Lord worshiped on Taldain is Autonomy. And the religion worshiping the Sand Lord is the foundation for an entire people's governing. So Autonomy does not appear to be against governance. Also, the intents of the shards influence what actions the shards take. For instance, preservation wanted to preserve. Yes, he liked people who preserved, but that was secondary to him preserving. He thought the Lord Ruler was the best thing ever, because he never died, even if LR caused a lot of death. So Autonomy might like people that choose to take over other people, as long as it is an autonomous choice, like the set.

[OB] Why Aluminium Wipes Investiture
Wandering Investor replied to The Thinking Herald's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Atium is made of investiture, not charged with it. That's why Feruchemist can store investiture in it. Technically all matter, energy, and investiture are interchangeable, so it could be argued that all matter, including aluminium is already investiture. Its just balanced between the sixteen (or in the case of Scadrial, the two), whereas the god metals are purely one or the other. -
Harmony only recently became distracted, indicating the... problem... is a recent one. So Harmony had to balance out the powers for the past 300 years before that happened.

Someone might have a better answer, but as I understand it, tapping Iron increases the body's ability to resist being crushed by its own weight. So its not getting stronger, just not being crushed. You can add weight to punches and attacks. The problem is that it doesn't increase your body's resistance to damage. Its increasing your mass, but not your density. So even with your weight tapped, a bullet will still go through you. That's pulled directly from Alloy of Law annotations chapter six. Expanding on that, I suspect you could use your weight to go through a wall, but it would still hurt you, especially if there are any sharp edges. Plus judging from Wax's injuries after going through a floor and having people land on top of him, he's able to resist being crushed by his own weight, but any additional weight would affect him normally. So people landing on Wax will hurt him the same, no matter if he has weight tapped or not.

[OB] Wax as a skybreaker
Wandering Investor replied to Supreme King Z-arc's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Interesting, but I'm not sure if Wayne would do well as a lightweaver. It requires a certain level of self awareness, and Wayne is a bit too.. primal/instinctive. That's be an interesting question for Brandon. -
That's interesting. If he can't make Atium anymore, then I wonder how he's siphoning off the extra Ruin.

I read somewhere that Autonomy charged the sunlight in the clouds, but its been awhile and this was the closest I could find. So Invested Sun wins.
-
Autonomy primarily invest in Taldain in the clouds. The sunlight goes through the clouds, and is then invested, before hitting the planet.
-
Sorry, meant to say spheres. He offered them bowls full of charged spheres.

Shallan can press stormlight into Pattern, so at least the higher spren can hold stormlight. So the question is can lesser spren hold stormlight, and can either groups of spren absorb stormlight be themselves, like from a highstorm, or only if a Radiant forces the stormlight into them. Can Kaladin force stormlight into Pattern, or is it due to Shallan's bond with Pattern. Also just remembered that an Honorspren absorbed stormlight offered to her by Rock.

"The Third Ideal, the Ideal of Dedication, requires you to have first bonded a highspren." Skybreaker Master Ki. Even after being accepted as a squire, Szeth is never forbidden from using division. Considering how effective a weapon the surge potentially is, if 2 Ideal skybreakers could use division, the skybreakers would either teach them how to use it, or explicitly forbid it, neither of which they did.

That was a lie by the Lord of the Rift. Sadeas attempted to act as a decoy the night of Gavilar's death, at great risk to himself, and several of his viewpoints show a very high level of respect to Gavilar. He did eventually consider a coup and killing Elhokar, but that was only at the end of WoR.
-
I agree with that. I find the similarities between the religions to be suspect, but not proof. Common themes in religions arising from common themes in humanity is a very Brandon thing to do, so its entirely possible. But the Autonomy bit is also possible.

I forgot about the seeds, so Lift was shown using progression before the second. Szeth had to bond the Highspren before his third oath, so at some point he was no longer a squire but a full Radiant(unless you can be both). As for Shallan, I could be wrong but I was under the impression that "I'm terrified" and "I killed my father" were questionable as to whether they were oaths or not, as Shallan may have said several during her childhood. There's no hint that all squires gain both surges. Windrunner squires have been shown to use both, but neither skybreaker nor lightweaver squires have been observed using both. Also, the Skybreaker masters clearly indicate that the surge of gravitation cannot be accessed in till the second Ideal. This may only apply to certain squires, but does show one instance of surges locked behind Ideals.
