  1. I think this is a good argument for the expression of the Vessel, and the power it has over the Shard's Intent. Some have mentioned that this is a case of Vin not being attuned to Preservation, which allowed her to attack. But as we see with Kelsier, not being attuned to Preservation would prevent the powers from obeying to attack. Instead, I think this is a case of the Vessel's perspective on what is preserving or not. This is Vin seeing this as an act of preservation. The follow up question is could Leras ever see it this way? Could Vin still do this after several thousand years of holding the power? That would answer the question of how just how great a difference vessel's can express the Shards, if at all. I think the nature of the Shard is slightly different from the way its being used. I think its better to consider it a vague concept. Its not a universal truth, or a list of every possible definition of the concept. It only takes on concrete meaning when exposed to the Vessel, who then decides what the core concept actually means.
  2. This wouldn't work, as soul stamps have difficult changing things with investiture, the reason souls resist. So doing this to a shard would require a ridiculous amount of investiture, like equal or more than the shard in the first place. Hoid was there to steal the Moon Scepter, which can be used to translate between different magics on Sel.
  3. @hoiditthroughthegrapevine In this case the expression and the vessel's control are two different things. I don't think expression is the best term here, but I understand why Jofwu used it instead of filter or Intent. In this case, expression is the vessel's opinion of what the nature means. Ati sees Ruin as a force of destruction, Sazed sees it as... something gentler, something important, not to be rushed or denied. The vessel's ability to resist the mandate of the shard would then be the control.
  4. I'm pretty sure Atium makes use of Fortune, so it capable of both short and longer term future sight. Its just that the farther you go, the less exact it gets.
  5. The Lighthouse keeper in OB uses the term "Merciful Domi". I assumed this meant he was from Sel. The device is also somewhat similar in nature to the Orb that the Iri used in Mistborn Secret History.
  6. Not that I know of, I just think its a safe assumption. Depends on what the lighthouse keeper in OB was using to make his fortune telling sphere function.
  7. I think the Stormwardens fall under calculating a reoccurring pattern, and not true foresight. Kalidin sees the future when riding a highstorm, but that's a consequence of being connected to SF and by extension Honor's power in the spiriti realm, so that might just be Shardic sight. Sel's power(The Elantrians at least) can do whatever as long as the commands are correct. Its not a question of can they, but do they know how.
  8. Savantism in the cosmere is the resulting of power passing through your soul in such large quantities that it alters the shape of your soul. However, the fused are already warped far beyond what their original souls looked like. As such, I do not think a term such as savant can be applied to them accurately. Now the question of whether surgebinding can change their souls? A unknown, although I doubt it will do much beyond what Odium already did for them. Also, the changes the fused create in a body when inhabiting are quite large. Its not just the skin color, but the actual shape of the body. When Venli's friend, I forget his name, is overtaken by a fuzed he gains a substantial increase in body size, in addition to the skin coloring. I suspect the facial features likely changed as well, basically a total remake to match the Ideal of the fused.
  9. This was partially due to the nature of Ruin and Preservation and their opposing forces. As shown by Odium, with a 3 kill streak, not all shard battles will be so even. But I still understand the point you're trying to make, and it mostly stands. Having more followers would increase her power in the physical realm by controlling their agency.
  10. @Oversleep Because you asked the question... But you raise an interesting point, I wasn't paying enough attention at who I was talking to xD
  11. I have to agree with Rshara on the pathways. Its an interesting approach, but we have first person views from both Vin and Kelsier when wielding preservation. They used their power in a variety of ways, the only roadblocks being Shardic interference(Ruin), or actions that go against the Intent of the shard(although as shown by Vin, interpretation can vary as shown when she destroyed herself and Ruin as an act of preservation. They don't seem limited to certain pathways. This use of Avatar is specific to Autonomy. One of the Letters in OB is confirmed to be from her, specifically from the one that uses "we" a lot. Autonomy says "We have claimed that world, and a new avatar of our being is beginning to manifest there. She is young yet, and--as a precaution--she has been instilled with an intense and overpowering dislike of you. This is all we will say at this time." The use of "we" indicates that Autonomy speaks through multiple avatars, and is capable of making ones on various worlds. The nature of these avatars, such as are they all equal, are some greater than others, do they all serve a central personality or is it a collective, are unknown currently. I like the theory that Autonomy is driven to create autonomous personalities by Intent. There's also a theory that Autonomy creates autonomous minds in order to increase mental capacities to access greater amounts of her infinite power.
  12. Indeed, we've seen no indication that worship increases a Shard's power, but I was just throwing ideas out there.
  13. I suspect yelig-nar is unique in his ability to inhabit gemstones in people's stomachs. Dawnsinger bodies are build to be infused by a spren and change, so I'm not sure if it would work naturally for humans. Maybe if the gem can connect/piece the spiritweb. It should be noted that Jezrien is a cognitive shadow, aka a spren, inhabiting a body, so the heralds and fused are a bit unique in that regard. I suspect if you stuck that dagger in anyone else you'd only tear off a piece of the spirit if anything. But that's speculation. As for metal, when concentrated investiture takes a solid physical form, it tends(only?) takes the form of metal. Examples are shard godmetals and spren.
  14. The investiture has always been assigned to the shards, but you're assuming the shards existed pre-shattering. Other WoB's indicate the investiture was assigned during the shattering. So basically, all investiture was connected to Adon, but after being shattered the investiture divided out to the shards, but it was never disconnected, if that makes sense.
  15. That's one of the theories, but there are a few problems with it. First is that gems cannot, as far as we know, bind anything other than spren. So you can't bind mortals with it. Second is that the Dawnshards are suggested to have be used in the cataclysm of Ashyn, and its unknown how a gemstone could do that.
  16. Autonomy appears to be building a interstellar empire. As noted by Khriss, Autonomy has a isolationist policy implemented on Taldain, in direct contradiction to her actions, indicating she regularly interacts with locations off world of Taldain(its not confirmed if Autonomy moves around herself though). The letters in OB indicate Autonomy has claimed several worlds, potentially investing in them. As per WoB, we know Autonomy also has a habit of inserting herself into in world religions, although there's no indication if she changes the religions or not. So we know she's doing these things, but we have no information on the motivation. Is she expanding for expansions sake? Is she attempting to expand her influence of the number of people that worship her? Her manipulation of religions suggest she could be spreading a certain religion/mindset/teachings, or maybe she just likes people worshiping her. Maybe the more people that think about her, the stronger she is? Or maybe all the expanding is for a more specific goal, of which we don't know about? As per WoB, Autonomy was involved in Domination's and Devotion's deaths, although we have no idea what "involved" actually means. @AntiqueArabesqueTo answer your question more directly, we do not know what her specific in world goals are, although we do know that her influence on First of the Sun is not unique.
  17. @Prince Dusty I'd hesitate to update anything just yet. We know Patji is of Autonomy, but we don't know the details of the connection, or whether Patji/Autonomy actively interferes with the world or just observes.
  18. True. That coincides with the death of the Lord Ruler. Perhaps he was sustaining Preservation, or maybe Ruin shifted focus from the LR to Fuzz after the death. Or narratively, that's just when Fuzz was gonna die one way or another. And also no, I do not know of a WoB stating that, just observations.
  19. I think the prime indicator here is about imposed rules, not rules posed by nature. These are about rules that were created by intelligence. That's the domain of Honor. Order would be concerned with rules, both natural and artificial.
  20. It should be noted that Preservation's death blow was dealt by himself in a sacrifice. and his actual death only occurred after Ruin was released and began putting destructive pressure on the last wisp of Preservation's vessel. Without Ruin he might have kept on as he was.
  21. The fact that he absorbed stormlight while Kal wasn't around was something I noticed, but wasn't sure why. Him having his spren since then makes alot of sense.
  22. Probably not, just because he has the Scadrial and Roshar to focus on for the cosmere. Aside from those two, I only expect side stories from non core worlds. I don't expect anything from White Sands in till the Adonalsium saga moves into the next chapter, after Roshar is done.
  23. The Blackthorn. His weapon would deal critical damage in one hit, while the shardplate would likely resist any blows from the Koloss (not alot but enough). Man, I feel like we've gone through quite a few of the possibilities.... New game, capture the flag. Mistborn/Koloss vs Elantrian/Dakhor monk. Both are dropped on Patji, opposite ends of the island. victory requires recovering a Large blue flag and returning it to their base(spawn location). Upon picking up the flag, the other team will be alerted and will know where the opposing teams base is. Stealing the flag will reset the flag and bases position. Death will return the player to their base with a two hour delay. Rebirth heals damage and hunger, but not sleep. Patji's residents won't bother the players when in their home base. The Dakhor and Koloss won't get tired(physical wise, they'll need sleep eventually). The Mistborn will receive a moderate amount of metal(all 16 base) directly into their stomach every hour(old metals are erased). The Elantrian will have knowledge of basic aons and a few modifiers, and their access to the DOR will be as though they were in Teod. Who wins? How long does it take? Kill count for both sides?
  24. @The One Who Connects *slow clap* I think that answers that question, the aluminum would likely destroy breaths you're holding, and breaths on invested metal in your body. I'm not sure about if you swallow awakened metal not keyed to you, but now I think it would destroy that investiture as well.
  25. ooooo interesting....That raises the question of what Aluminum actually does. Is it just destroying other metals, or is it specifically targeting investiture. If a mistborn relocated to a subastral where metal was no longer the focus(or whatever the correct term is, that's still fuzzy), would aluminium still destroy the metal? If a metalmind was piecing your body, would aluminium destroy the metal, or the charges within, or both? Same goes for breath. I'm honestly not sure what it would do. I don't think we have the information to answer this.
