I believe that if it is possible for Preservation to imprison Ruin, it would be possible for this to happen from other shards. It is possible, however, that the nature of Preservation and Ruin, being diametrically opposed, caused the imprisonment to be far more effective. I also think that it is likely that the pact between Preservation and Ruin to create a world together allowed Preservation to do some things that would not be possible without a 'willing' opponent, so to say. I believe it is entirely possible that Preservation "tricked" Ruin into putting himself in a more vulnerable position so Preservation could trap him. I think this is unlikely to be the case with Honor/Cultivation and Odium. Odium was not involved with Roshar's creation, nor were Honor and Cultivation. We also see nothing similar to the Oathpact on Scadrial, which has been theorized to be heavily involved in the conflict with Odium.

Gain a following easily by rioting emotions correctly, always one step ahead of the opposition, able to talk their way through almost anybody that is opposing them and not as susceptible to emotional alomancy. Basically the ability to do what Hitler, Hussein, Kim Il'Sung, Jong'Il, Jong'Un have done by inciting hatred and anger, fueled by despair and desperation and subjugating those who are a little less likely to succumb to hatred through fear and the loyalty of their followers. We live in a non-magical world, and we have dictators capable of convincing people en masse that they are a superior being through propagandistic education and censorship of information. We also have leaders capable of generating a huge following purely from the fear that dissention will result in death, and any attempt to organize against the dictator will result in being ousted by those who are either genuinely loyal, or fearful for their own death. Imagine this same type of situation, but with the ability to amplify anger, hatred, desperation, fear, disdain, etc. Even if there were an organization capable of resisting the emotional allomancy, the sheer number of followers would surely ensure a wide range of mistings, ferrings, and twinborn at their disposal. All of this while being capable of compounding mental quickness, which would allow them near-limitless ability to plan, predict, prepare, persuade and extensively analyze and revise propaganda material, flaws in defenses and escape plans, essentially this person would be able to have planning tenfold that of any dictator we've had so far, and they would have to trust fewer people due to their ability to do the bulk of the thinking themselves. Edit: Basically TLR's political machinations, without the supreme god-like being. Think how infrequently TLR needed to actually exercise his physical/magical prowess to rule.

I thought it possible that, as a lot of people have theorized, the Listeners were a race that was around before the Humans on Roshar, and if that's the case, it is likely that before the Spren ever imitated the Honorblades with the Nahel bond, they had bonded (less strongly) and/or interacted with the listeners. When we're aware that the Listeners had been given forms by some kind of Spren, whether directly tied to Odium or Cultivation/Honor, we're not sure on the details. I definitely think that the Rhythms that the Listeners hear have something to do with the Cognitive realm, and the comments Alethi make on the strangeness of their emotion, or lack thereof, indicate some sort of fundamental difference in cognition and interaction. Perhaps the Listeners, due to being more strongly Cognitive beings themselves, cannot provide the Physical "sustenance" that a strongly Physical being such as a human provides, and as such, the "higher" Spren were not able to cross over as completely or successfully as with humans. Perhaps it is that the Listeners are able to bond more primal spren, such as Windspren, Flamespren, etc, similar to their trapping in the jewels for a fabrial, and due to the lack of Sapience, these more basic Spren could not provide significant surge control, rather providing changes in the physical form and capabilities, slight emotional changes, etc. I have also wondered how much of it has to do with Stormfather, and other "god" Spren, as they openly name Stormfather a traitor in one of the songs, and if I'm not mistaken, Eshonai ruminates on this while heading out into the storm.

I would agree with Spool here, I think she is aware but prefers to metabolize it. It seems like she can retain Stormlight much better than a normal Surgebinder this way. If you remember the battle with Kaladin & Szeth, Kal pulls a decent amount of Stormlight from the pouches at Szeth's waist, which is necessitated by the fact that they can't hold Stormlight for any lengthy duration. I doubt that the 13 year old has thought it through to that extent, she's simply doing what she's used to, and what's easier for her, but I'm sure Brandon did this deliberately, and we will find her surprising foes and using it strongly to her advantage in the future.

Considering the fact that Ruin was able to change anything written, and could 'hear' anything spoken, it would be advantageous to be able to duplicate a memory without needing to tap a coppermind, write it down, store it, then read your memory, which at this point could be compromised by Ruin (or Preservation - though this would presumably be pretty out of character)

Do we know that Ym was a Truthwatcher? We know he had Progression, which means he's either Truthwatcher or Edgedancer, and Wyndle has said that he planned to bond with Ym. If you're basing this off of the differences between his spren and Lift's, keep in mind that Lift has her cognitive weirdness, which makes her perception of spren probably different. Edit: Sorry for double post, tried to edit the previous and it saved a new post..not sure what happened here.

At this point, we really can't be sure. She is either Truthwatcher or Edgedancer. It's difficult to know, because we don't know a lot about either spren. We know that Cultivationspren is the spren of the Edgedancer, but we also know that Lift is partially within the Cognitive realm, meaning it's likely that she sees her spren differently than other Edgedancers. We also have never seen Renarin's spren, the other Truthwatcher we have seen. I would venture to guess Edgedancer, as, even though Stump was crotchety and seemed like a bit of a hag, she clearly cared for the children she took care of, which would be fitting for the Edgedancer's oath "I will remember those who have been forgotten."

I'd check out Reckoners series if you are looking for a Brandon Sanderson series to enjoy that's outside of the Cosmere series. I would also recommend that you read Warbreaker, Emperor's Soul, and Arcanum Unbounded, all of which are within the Cosmere. Warbreaker is available free on Brandon's website, and I believe Emperor's Soul is a part of Arcanum Unbounded, as well as a bunch of other Cosmere novellas and postscripts by "Khriss" a world hopper, which give us a little insight into in-world knowledge of the Cosmere by those who are believed to be most knowledgeable outside of shards.

I agree with JW. Spending so much time around Alethi with only other Alethi, it's not really clear how tall they actually are.

Thank you for the answers everyone. I figured this was the case, but can honestly say I never noticed in the past that they were spikes at all, so I had never had the thought that they might indicate something.

This may have been something that's been discussed extensively, or just so obvious that people don't even bother, but I've been looking at the Allomantic symbols for metals, and I noticed for the first time (not proud of this) that the lines in the symbols are spikes, piercing the symbols. My question is this: Does the location of the spike on the Allomantic symbol for a metal indicate in any way the location the spike needs to be placed to grant Allomantic ability through Hemalurgic spikes? It could totally be just a stylized way to make the symbols look cool, and also be highly thematic, but things like the script on WoK/WoR pre-chapter annotations can be translated, so most of his art is not just some artist who hasn't read the book's brain child, it is directly applicable to the novels.

I believe there was note of it in AU, talking about it's importance. Brandon has said that it's capable of translating symbols from one magic system to another, and that with it, using Sel's magic system off-world would be significantly less daunting. The moon scepter was presumably swapped by Hoid when he betrayed Shai. It is most definitely not just a symbol of authority.

If there was an order that didn't break their oaths, where are they today? Did the Radiants all die of old age, and the surges didn't return to men because the spren bond was no longer happening? Where did you get that info? Just curious, not questioning that it's the case.

There seem to be a good number of people who are unclear about the vision Dalinar has where Honor shows him "the future". He talks of trying to see the future like looking into a 'broken mirror' and that there are many possibilities. The possibility he shows Dalinar is "born of his fears" rather than being a clairvoyant understanding of the future. He is showing him a possible outcome that he is very much afraid of. Just wanted to clarify that point because it seems to be affecting many people's understanding of Odium's intent or lack thereof to destroy Roshar. Also I think it's likely that the story of Roshar parallels the story on Scadrial in some ways that people don't seem to have considered. If Preservation was able to see into the future and plan out the events of the original Mistborn trilogy before sacrificing a significant portion of his mind to prevent Ruin to a degree from influencing these plans, I don't see why it's unlikely that Honor and Cultivation together, with Cultivation skilled at seeing the future, couldn't plan out similarly for the opposition to what they were doing. Knowing Rayse/Odium was seeking out and splintering shards, and seemingly targeting shards working together, you would think they had some ability to plan for the eventuality that he arrived to challenge them. I think it's possible that the KR discovered the details of the Oathpact, and that Honor knowingly precipitated a covenant that would cause the binding of any shards that entered the system. They would find that Honor is the reason for the Desolations, though indirectly. At a Shardic level, what could be more honorable than to bind the one destroying shards in one's own system, at minimum buying time for the other shards to plan for their own opposition to Odium, at most possibly stopping or splintering Odium (though I don't see Honor or Cultivation either resorting to splintering another shard, and even if they resigned themselves to doing something so distasteful, would struggle to perform such an act, as it goes against their nature to some extent, and their shardic intent) I think we really need to consider two things here, which kind of oppose each other in concept. The KR all abandoned their oaths, every single one, so far as we know. They may not have done it all at the exact instant, but they seem to have done it within a short time of each other, at minimum, it was a movement within the KR that was largely agreed upon, and though some may have struggled to stomach it, it ended up happening unanimously. The other side of this coin is that every individual Radiant is "cracked", which is what allows them to have surgebinding powers and the nahel bond in the first place. This could lead to them being more likely to abandon their bonds, especially since most of the cracking seems to be caused by betrayal, hurt from those they trust most, or the loss of those they care about most. At minimum, it would seem like the cracking happens from a massive shift in the life of the individual. Because of this, I feel like the breaking of the oaths would have to be a perceived betrayal of the spren, or the ones the KR had come to truly care about.

Hello Ninjabean! It's nice to have you. I'd also like to join the purple party. What a series to start with! I would highly recommend that you skip Allomancer Jak & The Pits of Eltania as well as Mistborn: Secret History in AU, it's definitely going to spoil a couple things for you if you don't finish Mistborn first. I'd also recommend you read the second era Mistborn before reading Mistborn: Secret History.

I thought you meant an official translation..definite possibility that a fan might translate. Definitely a decent amount of speakers but compared to any other language it's just not plausible monetarily to pay for translation and production on the off chance that people are going to buy in Esperanto. But yeah, possible that a fan might.

Just gonna take a wild guess on this one and say that's a big no..Esperanto is spoken by 1-2,000 people from birth, with only 2,000,000 speaking worldwide. The amount of time and money that would go into producing an Esperanto version would cost more than would be gained, when probably 99.9% of Esperanto speakers have a more common language they are fluent in.
