You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Kered replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Don't worry pal, I'll jump in the graveyard and back ya up when needed -
Wasn't there a recent WoB where someone asked the Highstorm question(if Nightblood was drawn during a highstorm by a Surgbinder)? I've been looking for it, I swear I saw it, but I can't find it. While the mechanics of it would need to be refined, I think Nightblood drawn during a highstorm pretty much trumps anything we've seen so far. I also think we'll see this before the 10 books are done. It would a truly epic scene.

I just got Black 2. Honestly, next to Gold, it's my favorite. Black Tower/White Forest is the best edition to the series next to being able to go back to Kanto in Gen 2.
-
Yeah, i was trying to find a quote from Edgedancer with Lift, then I realized that it wouldn't be feasible to type the every scene with her in it.

"Stretch forth your hand" is one of my favorite lines of dialogue. But my favorite line, comes right before that line. "Your will matters not!" Syl just totally shutting down the Stormfather so she can save Kaladin. That scene and dialogue is going to be tough to beat. One of my other favorite scenes that hasn't been mentioned yet is when Kaladin gets out of jail in WoR and has that conversation with Adolin. It was cool to finally see them become friends.

Since they're all insane, and with Taln back, I think the Oathpact is going to finally. fully break. Once this happens, I think a little bit of sanity is going to come back to them.

Yeah, let's hope Adolin starts killing younglings. ....spoiler?

Is it wrong that I want to keep two copies of TWoK?

I have enough notes and Coppermind quotes written in mine that I'm running out of margins. It helps me polish my theories and see connections i didn't see before, as does listening to the audiobooks. If i ever get the chance to get to a signing, I'll buy new copies to get signed. I don't like the idea of ordering signed copies, takes away from the experience I think. -
I meant dark path in the sense of emotional headspace, not him going baddie. I think it's going to push him to be a stronger person and push him to become something better. But that's a theory that should be in a different topic haha.

With what happened with Adolin at then end of WoR(Spoiler hint: It involved a knife and ocular cavity) and with what you said about "yet another betrayal" and taking it harder where Kaladin's concern, I see a dark path in Adolins future. Near future.

This is what I was thinking. Brandon's romance style throughout his books is going to lead to a very interesting triangle throughout the series. He has a way to where the romance doesn't take over the plot, but strengthens it will humor and dynamic themes. Which is rare nowadays, romance has a tendency to drown the plot out in todays fantasy. in other words, it'll be fun to see Adolin's version of the bro code, and in which ways Kaladin violates it.

Ahh, I hadn't thought of that. Thanks.

It wasn't a stupid comment, it was an obvious one, there was no way of me knowing the details of your search. Just that you said something that was in direct contradiction with what I found. I just wanted to make my point clear, and you took it the wrong way. I am sorry if I offended you. We also don't know if it's strictly his intent that is fueling his plans. In the Letter it is stated by Hoid that Rayze was crafty. Know I now it's also said by Frost that he speculates that Rayze is more of a force than a person now, but I still think there is a little of Rayze left. I believe this because of his actions. Odiums purpose could be a coupling of his intent and his plan to be the strongest in the cosmere. If it was just his intent that was fueling him now, he wouldn't be "very afraid" he would just be more angry. Harmony presents a obstacle of Odium becoming the most powerful being, or at the very least, the last shard standing. The way he has been going about his business has to change. Even before Harmony, Odiums plans hit big speed bumps (getting trapped in Roshar). I think it's foolish to not think there might be a combo of Odium in the future, even if it's not Rayse's idea. I also think it's foolish to think that Odiums plans won't change if he ever gets out of Roshar. Again, whether it's in the form of Odium merging with another Shard or him changing the way he splinters in order to get at Harmony, Odiums mindset will change. He's shown to much intelligence thus far to completely commit to one game plan no matter what happens in the cosmere.

http://www.theoryland.com/intvsresults.php?kwt='harmony' Numbers 25 and 15. ADAM Does Hoid believe that Shards are the most powerful thing? BRANDON SANDERSON You'll have to ask him sometime. [gives troll grin]. Or see him get asked something like that sometime. There's argument to be made that right now Harmony is the most powerful thing in the Cosmere. ERICTH Could Sazed take down Rayse since he has two shards? BRANDON SANDERSON Rayse is VERY scared of Sazed. However, given Sazed is a composite of two diametrically opposed shards, he finds it very difficult to act. I think this feeds into my opinion that is no longer out of the realm of possibility that Odium may change the way he's been doing things. You're right Brandon didn't say Odium was afraid, he said Odium is VERY afraid.

May be wrong but this has to do with Adolin asking for his boon after his duel with the four. Words of Radiance, Chapter 59 "Whitespine Uncaged", pg.674 "For my boon," Adolin shouted to the quiet arena, "I demand the Right of Challenge. I demand the chance to duel Highprince Sadeas, right here and now, as redress for the crimes he committed against my house!" Emphasis is mine. Then: Words of Radiance, Chapter 60 "Never again", pg.676 "Adolin didn't get a chance to pin down the duel," Dalinar said, looking at Kaladin. "As soon as he was free of the arena , Sadeas sent word agreeing to duel Adolin-- in one year's time." Has this already been addressed, or am I reading it wrong?

Compared to the time Odium has been trapped in Roshar, Harmony is relatively new. I was really talking about the combination of two Shards being a new event we haven't seen before. Not new as in the longevity of Sazed as Harmony.
-
He hasn't tried it yet. The combination of Ruin and Preservation is a new thing. Something that Odium has not faced yet. I don't think he's going to throw all his chips on being able manipulate Sazed. He has to find a way to get more power, just in case his plans fall through. Evil like Odium doesn't settle on one plan. He has a focal plan, with others waiting in the wing. Like I've said before, I'm not saying a combo with Odium and another Shard is going to happen. I'm saying that unlike before, it's no longer out of the realm of possibility.
-
I disagree. Strictly for the fact that Brandon has said, multiple times, that Odium is afraid of Harmony. He was not that afraid of going after two separate shards in the past. So obviously it's different than what Odiums done in the past, and what he can do might not be as effective on Harmony. The game has changed. And I would like to see any bad guy from any story, sit in the same place for 3,000+ years and not have their plans change. Harmony was the introduction to the idea that Shards can combine, we haven't seen the last of it. It's more than probable that Odium is going to sacrifice some of his ideology in order to complete his goals.
-
Again, this was his philosophy before Ruin and Preservation became Harmony. Plus he's been stuck in the Roshar system for a loooooong time. I think his whole not wanting to take in any foreign investiture policy is going to change. He needs to increase his power. From what we know, there is not many ways for a Shard to do this. Unless he somehow gets his hands on the weapon the 16 used.
-
The raw tenaciousness of Odium coupled with Autonomy's covert intelligence and skill in manipulation? To me, that's terrifying haha. If we're going with combinations of already splintered Shards, I think Odium and Ambition would be super bad. As that Shard was first on Odium's list.
-
I've always thought that Odium wasn't going to be the final baddie. We have to much time left in the cosmere for him to remain with the "final boss" crown. In my opinion, the worse-case scenario is Autonomy and Odium combining. Or a far fetched idea is a three-way combo with Autonomy/Odium and a Shard we haven't seen.
-
Yeah, but that was his motto before Harmony came into the picture. Brandon's stated Odium's feelings on the subject, he's afraid that something like this would happen. I think he has to change up his game plan now. At the very least, it's not out of the realm of possibility anymore.
-
I just read it on theoryland, I'll try and find it. He also said that with the number of cultures throughout the cosmere, there will be small overlaps in places.

I think this is my favorite theory thus far on what was the cause behind the Shattering and Hoid's mission. Solid thoughts my man. I think the idea that Odium has in own twisted form of trying to save the cosmere, and not destroy it.
