  1. I really like the idea that Odium made Dalinar try and kill Gavilar perhaps knowing that the one filled with bloodlust would be a better champion than the one who emotionlessly politicked. Personally I'm more of the opinion that the third bondsmith spren isn't a voidspren- which theory for what it actually is that I like better I can't decide. It could just as equally be pure honour (nightwatcher is pure cultivation and the stormfather when last bonded, before merging with honour could have been pure adonalsium as the rider of storms) or it could be a spren born of perfectly equal resonance between honour and cultivation that the shards saw as their (eldest) child seeing as they were lovers and lovers tend to want children. Yes, I'm torn but maybe leaning towards the second one
  2. I saw it as no one could have emotion with Odium around because he was the Void who sucks in all emotion like he did for Moash and tried to get Dalinar to do
  3. Originally I thought it was just making a stormfatherblade but I feel like if that happened once it would've happened again at least one more time- looking back on it I feel a much more logical explanation was that this foreshadowed his Ascension
  4. Fair enough @Alderant. To quote Thomas sanders new video "I wasn't thinking straight-I never think straight, I'm not straight". I've gotta say though, I just want Shallan happy and that's something we can all agree on because the way she's going right now....
  5. I'm pretty sure there's a wob saying that stormlight specifically was an attempt to subvert as many tropes as possible. In answer to the point that the stakes are higher for her than him, I'd say that was the case at the beginning of their relationship but now that her family's status is dependant on the ghost bloods instead of court politics, her only motivation for loving adolin is that she likes him as a person. I feel that his easygoing and optimistic worldview is something that she really needs as a pillar of support especially now that she's losing herself in her illusions; she needs an anchor and adolin provides a better anchor than kaladin. As for the fact that she made all those comments about kaladins intensity, that could easily be attributed to her artistic mind looking for prominent traits and she didn't do this for adolin as she simply didn't have the same experience with him of just being together without any external things with ghostbloods and all demanding her attention. In the chasms there was very little to think about and so she focused more on kaladin than she was able to on adolin. Shallan needs adolins positivity right now and though I will admit Kaladin is more positive than he was in Wok, adolin is still a much better way of leaving behind all the stresses of Shallans life.
  6. But as for the original intent of this post, I feel like one of shallans personas could become sentient because of the investiture she is constantly using to fuel the illusion. It would have to be one of the personas that people think is not actually her as I think that would at least give it its own bead in the cognitive realm if not making it a spren. So it's the two things, other people seeing it as a different thing and the sheer stormlight being channelled into the illusion that could make a sort of veilspren. Now as a side note, imagine that veilspren bonding with someone and giving them powers
  7. Ok as a hardcore shadolin shipper this entire topic has a massive feeling of wrongness about it for me. I definitely think that eventually Shallan will deal with her issues surrounding memory repression and things but the way I see it happening is by coming clean with and talking it out with adolin. I feel that she is so worried about whether she can trust herself that she'll at first try and distance herself from him but then he realises that something's wrong they have a confrontation and she like angrily tells him everything. Then she realises that she feels really liberated by the fact that she can just tell the truth and she's found someone who won't judge her (because adolin is not a judgemental person by any definition). From that point on she starts using him as a sort of anchor; she can make up any number of things but at the end of the day he is the certain solid baseline that she can come home to. Her eventual confrontation with Kaladin would probably then have her using him for support. Adolin is definitely the warmest, most easygoing presence in sa and I feel like that's definitely what she needs right now.
  8. Reread to pick up any details you might've missed, plus that way you can see it all together rather than bits. Part of me is convinced that in the actual book the epigraphs will be much more useful but that probably unlikely
  9. For me it seemed inspired by Elantris- a white haired person, a massive wall with steps on the other side that keeps the inhabitants in. Obviously the details have been corrupted but thats not unexpected considering its a different world and the time gap is a few thousand years as well.
  10. I have an image in my head of some of the orders having a designated playwright who writes plays that they pay the lightweavers to put on to help surgebinders realise the orders of their ideals, kinda like a formalized Hoid with Kaladin. But then imagine the lightweavers refusing to put on certain plays because it went against the spirit of their own order. Also another thought I had was that when Shallan mentioned that she thought Radiant should be at the discussions table that foreshadows her making an illusion entirely of stormlight and giving it a voice and everything and then it slowly develops its own identity and sentience because of all the investiture needed to maintain it and people seeing it as its own entity giving it its own cognitive form. I think this would be really cool but unless the resulting being could be called a spren and stay in one of the spren cities in the CR this is unlikely as old lightweavers would prolly have done something like it and that would have been mentioned. Just a random musing
  11. How much earlier than 6 do you think we should get there for?
  12. Also if Mraize does have an aviar then... surely thats a new type of bond that would not only give the powers that the same bird on first of the sun but also the extra powers that all bonds give on Roshar which could be literally anything?
  13. Just like last week Adolin's attitude to Shallan's guards made me think of Lift's oath of remembrance, this week Adolin's 'cutting through the double speak' made me think of Lift's gift of tongues and just give me edgedancer adolin please
  14. Adolin's attitude towards Gaz and Shallan's guards reminds me of Lift with her oath of remembrance- hello edgedancer adolin! Also the more I see of him the more I am convinced that if he were real I would have the most massive crush on him, hes just such a great human
  15. IIRC Gavilar was secretly a Son of Honor; one of Roshar's secret societies, that wants to trigger a desolation to draw back the Heralds and unite mankind. The way I understand the plan for this desolation, the Parshmen becoming voidbringers is just the beginning, with future possible things being related to void-greatshells or void-surges given to humans
  16. So I get that Odium splintered D and D so that no one would be able to pick up the shard. But what was it that prevented somebody from individually picking up the various bits of investiture and becoming a super shard like Harmony? I guess maybe it's a little harder now because a lot of the investiture has developed its own unique identity but what about before? I'm probably missing something really basic here, aren't I?
  17. I feel like Dalinar's struggle would be more focused on how his reputation is down in the dust and how he needs to make everyone love him so much that he becomes their leader without him having to conquer the entire world.
  18. So i was just thinking about how no one has mentioned that wit has giant eyes so he probably does have an epicanthic fold, right? Hoid has added the fold into this disguise to make him seem normaler, right? Just wanna asess the accuracy of some fanart
  19. In my opinion the main thing here is lack of intent. Its been said that you can use hemalurgy anywhere in the cosmere so i think you would still be using ruins investiture in the same way as normal hemalurgy. The thing is though that the only people we have seen who have really experimented much with hemalurgy have been rashek and bleeder. Who knows about bleeder but rashek was a sliver and it was his invested nature that gave him knowledge. On roshar maybe you could have someone sucking in massive amounts of stormlight so they know how (somehow stopping the evaporation). Hell maybe thats something we'll see a bondsmith doing idk
  20. I just thought he meant that sprenblades and honorblades are both splinters, not that they both have spren attached to them. Personally ive always preferred thinking of the dawnsingers as things of cultivation but thats just me.
  21. Yeah when Kelsier tried to talk to madmen as Preservation he couldn't because 'the power tries too hard to shore up the gaps in their mind'. As regards Sazed, I'm pretty sure that's just because of the two conflicting intents.
  22. Wait so could you soulcast something into pseudo-shardplate or shardblades? I guess it would require a huge amount of investiture and you'd have to be very skilled/ knowledgeable but could Shallan eventually go to the cognitive realm in a highstorm and convince the gas form of the investiture that it was solid.
  23. Is a sleepless a bunch of cremlings controlled by an outside (cognitive) entity or is it a bunch of cremling like things each with a part of a mind that all combine to form full sentience?
  24. Only thing is.. the chapters in the unfettered anthology dont make dalinar out as the reading type. Still thats the only explanation that fits with most things we know
  25. Wasnt the only weilder we know about sunspear, the guy who originally united Alethkar? That feels thematic with the Dalinar flashbacks
