  1. Recently I received the highest compliment one of order of the Convertshapers could recieve at work, "Oh no now you started it. It'll be another hour before he is done talking about Sandrson." Little did my coworker realize if given the chance I won't stop talking about worlds of the great worldsmith.
  2. The rocks seem to think a highstorm is comeing.
  3. When there is power outage at work and you tell your coworkers, "It's the Reod all over again!"
  4. I need to find the WoB on this, but I believe i saw that he said that it isn't just the shape of the symbol that matters but what the symbol means. and to some extent probably it matters what the symbol think it means. Just going some where else and making up new symbols won't work as easy as it might seem at first.
  5. @Pagerunner I am deeply apologetic... wait no i am not. i asked the question because i am trying to build theory on central laws that will explain how to hack the magic from one world to work in another amond other things. I think this discussion is giving me the tools i need. So thank you everybody for the insights and thoughts.
  6. On this the twenty-first day of the seventh... no the ninth... no the sixth... oh i give upth month of the eleventh year of the Comere seek membership among the Knights Awkward and here speel the words of destiny: "Books before friends. 17th Shard before the real world Release dates before birthdays!" By gifting the Words of Sanderson to those who had notI set forth my worthyness as one of the Convertshapers. By these words I bind my fate to their cause "I will convert those who are not."
  7. I actually like Skaa for those who have not yet snapped into the wonders that are the 17th shard. we are not saying they are not awesome just that they need to move up in the world. Maybe bond a Spren, join the Diem, obtain a few extra breath, pick your favorite.
  8. The problem with "Drab" is that a drab is someone who has "lost" their investiture. but we need something to refer to someone that has not yet obtained any. But as far as in world terms "Drab" is the best i can think of so far.
  9. So I know that all magic systems in the Cosmere requires investiture. But i have been seeing "Bonds" "focus" "fuel" and a number or other terms that are use in relation to the various magic systems in the Comere. Can someone either give me or point me to a brief overview of how magic generally works within the Cosmere? I don't need specifics ie I Know stormlight is the source of investiture on Roshar. But i am looking for general information. such as what is the role of bonds? What are focuses etc.
  10. No promises that i will go through the line by the time for the signings i'll have my 1 year old with me (gotta start Sanderson obsessions young), but if i do anybody have questions they want asked?
  11. I just had an in world thought for why we are missing an Ars arcanum in white sand. Kriss hasn't written it yet! Yeah I know she'll end up writing it later but this work for me for the first one or two white sand volumes /books
  12. I actually need to throw a bone to Raymond E Fiest here. His worlds and settings aren't as complete as Sanderson's but the overall picture is right up there. His character development is less forced as well but his plots are excellent and interconnect the series albeit not so subtly. Back to the original questions I don't struggle finding Epicness, I do struggle to find enjoyableness. I don't care so much about setting, characters, or even the worlds I am focused on the underlying plot. and honestly some "epic" books don't have enjoyable plots. what i find most enjoyable are the threads that beg to be pulled but don't have anything to do with the main direction on the book (Here's looking at the Cosmere!) As yes i do get annoyed at over confident characters that think their world is the best but have no idea what is truly out there, Actually while i enjoyed the books Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever is at the top of this list, though he does evolve in the latter series to the point he understands it is not all about him. Don't judge me for giving characters lives beyond their pages.
  13. Yes it has to deal with how fresh the blood i, BUT Shai makes note that the blood-sealer must be there every-morning about the same time. I guess I assumed that the meaning of fresh was variable up to about the same max as essence marks "about 26 hours" Ill get the exact quote tonight
  14. Just saw this and now it is on my calendar.. only 10 minutes from home!
  15. In fact the blood sealers needs to "reseal" everyday, the implication is exactly one cycle from the previous seal... without a little more info it is hard to say but this could easily be a reflection of Gaelic magic that resets with the rising/setting of the sun.
  16. While we are here Does anyone have confirmation on WHEN the cities were built? and WHEN the Shaod started? If the Shaod happened prior to building the Super Aon, was the cities built after certain Cosmere scale events in order to make up for the change of power that would have been likely? Also how does one add hidden text for spoilers?
  17. We know the Grands are not up to snuff when it comes to realmatic theory so maybe they weren't aware of the severing of the soul and that he was dead, and were hopeing for the best. But now i have a question i thought the forgery didn't rewrite the spirit web but simply changed they way something thinks about itself, leaving a physical sign of the change (the stamp), but if the change is outside the limits of the spirit web the change can't stick as evidenced by the stamp puffing away. Remove the stamp and the old way of thinking returns, again here the implication is that is the change was held long enough it might be permanent. do we have evidence besides the title the the change is in the spiritual realm? It is not uncommon for people in our world to survive head wounds but be very different cognitively. my reading was that they wanted to repair this difference. As such my thoughts are that she was rewriting the brain damage, and recreating the cognitive links not the spiritual ones.
  18. Sorry my computer spazed and posted before i was done putting down my thoughts. as a result the getting Hoid aboard my ship did not make into thread prior to the initial post. i have edited and finished. Yes the cube technology is what i am talking about for the engines. and without more information about how durlumin reacts with this technology i pulled it out.
  19. I have been working a FTL theory here and am interested to know if anyone else has thoughts about this option. I recent read how Aluminum will create dead spaces in speed bubbles, that speed bubbles will move with the thing they are on if they are big enough and fast enough (train vs. stage coach), and the size limits we have seen and a little for fluid then portraied. See attached thread for details So would an aluminum room inside a speed bubble, protect the inhabitants from the relativistic effects of FTL? Also there is Bubble size and Vessel size to consider. if the vessel is completly enclosed i bet the rules will define us as small. so we will need multiple layers of bubbles each. i think turning one layer on for .2 seconds and off for 2 seconds leads us to needing at least 21 layers spaces .1 seconds apart. As for Bubble size we know anything touching the bubbles enters the bubble... so bubble size should be an issue BUT if each layer were comprised of multiple emitters space across the ship so the bubbles overlapped we should be ok right? If so here is my plan. I want to get Hoid as my traveling companion and discuss his views of the big picture going on out there. Step 1: Build a Southern Scadialian Airship. with LOTS of Ettmetal Step 2: Outfit it with the "engines" for lift and forward travel. also outfit it out with a "FTL drive" made with multiple layers of multiple Bendalloy engines (This should also compounding the individual effects to incluse the time dilation.) Step 3: IMPORTANT FOR THIS THEROY! Out a room in the ship so the people inside can survive the vacuum of space Oxygen tanks snacks etc. completely lined with Aluminium walls, ceilings, floors no gaps. Step 4: Bait the trap with juicy information that would attract Hoid (Any ideas that would keep him on my side?). Step 5: Wait for Hoid to show up, lock us in the aluminum space, and launch. Please aim for another Shardworld so we can resupply and head home. In summery Steel for pushing, Bendalloy for time dilation, Ettmetal for fuel, The metal for the investiture part of the engine (nicrosel), and Aluminum to negate relativity. I know this constant gets RAFOed and may have be discussed to death, but i would welcome anybodies thoughts here.
  20. I normally introduce my self as a Professional Foodie (BS in Food Science and additional degrees in Culinary arts), Amateur Mythologist(Celtic, Norse and Slavic are my foundations), and apprentice glass cutter (stained glass is a great hobby if you were wondering). But what matters here is that I am a long time Sanderson reader. (Started in early 2008 -Hero of Ages was the first one I waited for.) i actually got into the Cosmere in order to aquaint myself with his work in getting ready for the conclusion of the Wheel of Time. I tend to be stuck in the past when it comes to my reading. With only a few exceptions i haven't read anything that started before 1995 Knowing that there are dozens if not hundreds of "Read This" suggestions out there i won't ask for any. Instead i'll ask for some help i find i get into the books so much better with the right sound track. What music, if any, makes good background settings when reading the Stormlight archive or Mistborn?
