  1. Interesting idea. Couple questions about it initially. If I understand right, a soul is power you gain from killing a shadow. While absorbing souls does result in a weakening of magic proficiency, it grants other abilities which are empowered by the consumption of soul. Is this correct? If so, can someone without magic use soulbearing anyways? Are there any deficits if you gain souls after you have lost your magic? Is it possible to give your souls to someone else and does your magic proficiency return after you lower your amount of souls to below 15? What happens if you kill someone bearing souls? Could you explain the math a bit better on killing someone? So if you kill someone of a higher tier, you gain tiers equal to the number of multiples your tier is of theirs, rounded down, with at least 1 tier gained? Your example doesn't make sense here since 5 is 6.4 multiples of 32, so rounding down should give 6 tiers, not 7. I agree with Calypso that the continuous linear increase in strength feels slightly boring. Forcing people to murder others to get stronger is fun and really Highlander-esque, but at the same time I feel it would make for a slightly stagnant society if everyone could do this.
  2. A coinshot or lurcher using a medallion giving duraluminum allomancy could burn duraluminum in order to boost their steel or iron sight, therefore possibly seeing lines pointing to internal metalminds.
  3. Most definitely, unless the test is on analysis versus information retention. For tests which aren't analysis, they would need a coinshot or lurcher to examine the students to make sure they don't have metalminds, though they would probably need duraluminum medallions or nicrobursts to check for internal metalminds. Getting a duraluminum medallion would be pretty hard though so nicrobursts would probably be the best way.
  4. How about Electrum Medallions of Determination to help people work or students make it through exams, coupled with Bronze Medallions for Wakefulness?
  5. HoA Epigraph Chapter 26 So nobles were mostly based off of Khlenni. Interesting about the technology. Looks like they were basically at the AoL level when Rashek broke everything for a millennium. They sure retook it rather quickly.
  6. If I remember correctly, the whole concept of the Nobles, how they dressed, acted, etc, was largely based off of the Khlennium culture, because in part, Rashek was jealous of them. So looking at the nobles, we probably have an understanding of their civilization. In addition, I believe it was said that they were probably the most advanced civilization on Scadrial, having achieved, or nearly achieved, gunpowder technologically, which Rashek suppressed as well.
  7. This is a very good thought. However, I have a couple thoughts that it doesn't clear up. First of all, even if the KRs had found out that Honor had been tricking them in the manner suggested around the time of the Recreance, why would they have been worried enough to abandon their oaths? The Desolations were well over at that point, and probably no one had died as a result of them in millennia. The only thing I can see is that they knew that there was a possibility that the Desolations would start up again. Secondly, we don't know if the Desolations would've occurred with or without the KR. Chances are they would've since the First Desolation occurred before the KRs were formed. Something forced Odium to attack Roshar instead of Honor directly. My opinion is that the Oathpact is what was limiting Odium, so he caused the Desolations to break it by defeating the Heralds. The KRs joined in, but regardless, the Desolations would've still occurred.
  8. What you would imagine happening. 1. Both would have their reserves wiped really quickly. 2. Both would have their reserves wiped really quickly. 3. Both would have their reserves wiped really quickly OR the leecher wipes all the metals of the nicroburst and has some remaining. Assuming they all start with the same amount of metal, Option 1 would wipe all metals more quickly than option 2, though the difference would probably only be noticeable if the starting amounts of metal are significantly large. Option 3 would end with the leecher having metal left if the amount is large enough for the nicroburst to not burn it through in an instance. Overall, you would be wasting some good chromium and nicrosil.
  9. Don't forget that each Herald is associated with a number which also corresponds to the specific attributes of the KR group they are patron of.
  10. Interesting. If Shinovar is a place without spren, then how come the Shin worship/revere the spren of stone? I suppose this has to do with them not treading on stone. Maybe they believe there are spren hiding in the stone even if they cannot see them?
  11. What is your view on the matter?
  12. Yes, that is the current model we are going by regarding how spiritweb changes when one gets a increasing amount of abilities to use manifestations of investiture.
  13. Fair. The model is saying that it requires the presence of two cracks of a manifestation of investiture in order to induce the effect. One crack isn't enough.
  14. Perks require at least two powers to occur as they are defined as an effect that occurs when two powers intersect. Regular ferrings or mistings cannot have effects in addition to their powers.
  15. I understand what you're saying, and you're right, specifically saying that the cracks of the effect are being placed relative to other cracks is nonsensical. What I was more going for was the fact that they would induce cracking, or some sort of change in some other part of the spiritweb, with too many cracks preventing extraneous changes. That's why I didn't reiterate the "cracks between cracks" idea in my second post on the matter. I'm curious though, are you just disliking my theory because I said cracks between cracks, or are just disliking the general idea of the cracks of powers causing other changes which result in the effects and the subsequent theory as to why too many powers won't cause effects? If so, I'm interested in an alternative theory on the matter, if you have one.
  16. Actually, Dalinar said the other reason they cannot arrest shardbearer's is because their status is too high for that to happen. In any case, I think it would actually be possible for Sadeas to imprison him while Dalinar could not, since Sadeas was Highprince of Information, which gave him power over internal investigations, and since it was pertaining to the king, he would have the authority. On the other hand, Dalinar was just Highprince of War, and wouldn't have had a significant case against Amaram.
  17. I'll give it until tomorrow morning. If no one answers, I'll post an easier question. Edit: New Question WLIU: Name the 6 protagonists of the web comic Order of the Stick along with their main class. Answer to the last question, if someone is interested. Does contain spoilers to the actual story.
  18. Was there something on this subject that Brandon said?
  19. Obviously I don't mean literal cracks or anything. I'm just using a physical analogy to describe a completely metaphysical concept. An analogy which has been used before such as in the case of describing how savantism forms. To be more abstract and correct would be to describe my theory as: "Changes in the spiritweb pertaining to specific powers induce other changes, which while variants exist between different people with the same powers due to other variants in their spiritwebs, pairs of powers produce similar changes. Too many changes as a result of the ability to use too many manifestations of investiture does not induce other changes due to interference between all the changes." When I read it like that, I think prefer physical analogies. Besides, we know that it is probably possible to describe something spiritual aspect in more layman's turn, as that is likely how forgery works. I don't think soulstamps are written in metaphysicals abstractions since Gaotama was able to understand them without too much work, and he clearly didn't understand much about forgery before that. As I said above, I used the term cracks because that is how it has been described before. Cracks in the spiritweb leave room for the nuances of power to form, and savantism is the widening of the cracks through flow of investiture. None of this stuff is happening, it's just metaphysical and I'm just keeping the already-used analogy. I do think though that a mistborn of full feruchemist does have more than one change in their spiritweb, for each power. While one snapping does cause all of the mistborn's changes, the fact that hemalurgy can only steal one at a time implies that the powers are in some way separated. Also, I feel like the god-alloys are related to the base metal/alloy power, running off the same change. Interesting thought, I didn't consider that they could be related. I'd have to think on that a bit.
  20. It's possible, regarding other objects. My opinion though is that it seems to be that blood is an integral part of hemalurgy, as expressed by the "hema" part of it. I imagine it would be possible to get around that requirement, but I don't think it would be as simple as substitutes in other materials and lifeforms.
  21. I was thinking about what the mechanics there could be that prevents people with many powers from gaining effects while people with a low amount can. My best theory so far is that it has to do with the cracks in the spirit Web related to the powers. As far as I'm aware, all powers require some sort of crack in the spiritweb in order to function. My thought is that the effects are the result of a minor crack developing between two cracks. Because of slight deviances in a person's spiritweb, no effect will be the same, but for pairs of powers, the effects will be generally the same. However, for people with a large number of powers like Rashek, 32 in total, there are so many cracks from the different powers that there is no room for a crack for an effect to develop, so he gets none. Anyhow, my initial thoughts. I'll be interested to see what others think.
  22. Possibly. I was just thinking of them as separate processes until you suggested it, but it might make sense for them to be connected.
  23. Compounding the charges would refill it faster than you will use it up.
  24. I wouldn't be surprised. After all, this is what Nale was doing.
