Not a problem. You presented a good case on the matter, and I will admit that even before you did, I felt that my explanation of it just increasing precision was lacking.

Scadrial and Roshar - also the Unmade [Spoilers]
Spoolofwhool replied to marsoupial's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Brandon has confirmed that Miles was influenced by something in those last words. However, he has avoided the issue on what entity it is, though originating from Roshar or Self were proposed. It's possible that it was a death rattle. if that's the case then Moelach would have to be on Scadrial, which would increase the likelihood that Odiumy is there as well. At the same time, I imagine it's possible that it was another shard whose power resulted in a similar effect to the death rattles. Hard to say.1 -
Fair points there. I revise my opinion on the matter.

The thing is though, I don't think the size of the target affects how strongly you push it. As far as I can tell, forces have been consistent on every object, with each object moving at different accelerations due to F=ma. I don't recall anything from the books which indicates that this would be false, but if you have a quote, that would be great. In any case, the reason why I made this argument was because while it's true that it said that Elend was just stronger, it never gave a real explanation in what way. On the other hand, in cases where we know someone to have had increased allomantic strength, such as Zane through hemalurgy or Wax through Savantism, we know for sure their increased strength manifested as an increased precision.

Yes, the power of shards can be used to directly change someone's spiritweb, like Harmony making Spook a mistborn, Rashek turning himself into a mistborn with the WoA or lerasium changing Elend. I don't think Harmony would deliberately interfere with the powers like that. He's stated already that he has a non-interference policy, and doing something like that would definitely violate how the society would be evolving. In any case, we already know why mistborns and full feruchemists are not being born; their powers are interfering with each other and weaking in general with bloodline, leading to only the birth of mistings and ferrings. Chances are that in Era 3, the mistborn antagonist will be born from a plan to consolidate allomantic bloodlines, or through hemalurgy, in which case it's not a real mistborn and Brandon is just messing with us. That, or some other method of turning someone into a mistborn. I think it can be safe to say though that by that point, naturally, without any eugenics, no mistborns would be born since the gene would be too dispersed.

The Oathpact was between them and Honor, indicating their alignment to Honor.

Good call.

Thanks Yata.

Returning is genetic though. If you don't have the right sDNA, Endowment won't consider you for returning.

I mean, mass does matter for how the object actually moves with regards to actual kinetics. I'm sorry if I made it look like mass was completely independent. I meant to say that mass was independent of the force applied. Anchor acceleration would still be dependent on mass of said anchor.
-
He had the precision to actually see the steel lines in the boulder of the trace metals. Similar to how Inquistors had the precision to see the trace metals in everything in order to see. I'd say they were good anchors because he could have lots of points to push from, so direction wasn't an issue. On normal building, he probably only can push against metal ornamentation. We had a discussion about this some time ago with an inconclusive result. It does seem weighed towards what Yata thinks, but we don't know for certain.

I don't think so, but I could be wrong. The size of the object doesn't change how hard you push. Mass only matters for determining who is moved. While it is true that the Elend was stronger and seemed to be pushing stronger, they never really explained it. However, in other cases of people with increased steel allomantic ability, we've had a clearer breakdown of how their power was increased. Zane and Wax have increased their steel allomancy, either through hemalurgy or savantism, and the effect on their powers was an increase in precision, not actual pushing power. Since chances are that a hemalurgic amplification of allomancy is similar to a feruchemy compounded tap, I think relating them is fine. As such, I would say that that is what happened to Elend in general and Vin when she tapped duralumin, they were just creating more lines of pushing, though it wasn't shown.

I'm not actually sure to be honest. I just feel like I read somewhere that it was around 20 years after. I can't remember where, so I'm going to edit that out of my reply. The 300 was just from the person ahead of me. I should've said at least 320. My error.
-
I agree, increased allomantic strength by compounding the tap of the allomancy from the nicrosilmind. My only concern is that as we've seen with other steel allomancy users, increased steel allomancy ability doesn't increase the strength of your push, it just increases precision. I guess then that Wax and Vin have done what they did my subdividing the metal target into a lot of individual segments, each with their own metal line, each one pushed with the same strength, which results with a net increased push.

Calamity came, and my Epic power made made everyone forget epics exist, including other epics.

We don't know exactly how long he been there. However, I'm going to say that he's been there for awhile, at least by Rosharan years, since he trained Adolin in combat, must've had some reputation before that.
-
No, I didn't say you were. I said it to the person I was quoting.

The descendant could be born with breath, or might not be.
-
No. Rosharans don't have breath. Only people with the specific Nalthian sDNA are born with breath.

Actually, I think Odium is just about hatred, The desire to destroy everything else and be the strongest is from Rayse, amplified by the feelings of hatred of Odium's intent. I think in general you're overselling the concept of the intent of the shard. The shard itself doesn't want anything. It's just power. However, this power changes the way holders of it think subtly, and continuously increasing the changes the longer the power is held. Ati didn't pick up Ruin and immediately want to break everything. At the beginning he was his normal self, capable of using the power how he desired. Over time, the intent changed him, so by the time he and Preservation decided to create Scadrial, he was unable to create by himself, because he had become someone who wanted to see everything break down. And yes, Rayse held Odium on Sel. Shards are just power. Without a directing mind, they can't maintain themselves very well, and uncontrolled shard power is dangerous.

It doesn't really matter. Shadesmar is a word for the Cognitive Realm in some language. If you don't want to use it, you don't have to. However, just using it to refer to the Cognitive Realm around Roshar and no other is an incorrect usage of it, since it refers to the whole Cognitive Realm.

Would Vin be considered a anti hero if she took the power
Spoolofwhool replied to Cloud Farren's topic in Mistborn
Rashek probably could've used the well the second time to reverse his age or just make himself immortal. Considering he has used its power to make an immortal specie (mistwraiths), I don't think making himself immortal would be impossible. As such, I think his plan to keep using the well and protecting the world from Ruin would've worked, providing he would've actually have had the chance to make himself immortal. -
Awakening is universal in Cosmere as long as you meet the prerequisites. Returning is only possible on Nalthis I believe. In any case, you have to have a specific spiritual DNA that native Nalthian possesses in order to return. There aren't going to be any significant crossovers since SA will be Cosmere-independent for major plot points. Overall, what is happening with Vasher on Roshar isn't changing any systems that haven't already been in place for centuries. Yes, manipulating different systems at the same time in order to obtain new effects is possible, but nothing extreme untowards is going to occur. Him being on Roshar isn't going to suddenly start causing Rosharans to return, if that were even possible. If it were possible before, it would've happened already.

You could still steal innate investiture to increase your mental fortitude, physical strength, steal memories, etc. Plus Reckoners Rithmatist In general though, on a normal Earth, hemalurgy would definitely be a lot less useful. Feruchemy would probably generate the most net advantages.

How does a Forger find an objects "history"?
Spoolofwhool replied to hula's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
They can't do anything about items they don't know about other than making random guesses and seeing what sticks. Everything else is about research, general background knowledge, experience and educated guesses. We are shown this by Shai during the book at times, such as how she figures out where the table was from so that she could forge it. My thoughts are that when she was in the cell, she could identify the stones of the wall, then because of her knowledge of where different stones are found and the respective quarries, could make appropriate changes.
