Entering the Cognitive Realm is actually your physical body just breaking down into investiture, so yeah, the Oathgates probably work in a similar way where both your Physical and Cognitive selves are converting to investiture and shunted through the Spiritual Realm to instantaneously change your Realmatic location.

Connection between shardblades and heartbeats?
Spoolofwhool replied to Fanghur Rahl's topic in Stormlight Archive
Based on what Syl said, it sounds like it's something to do with connecting the together, though I don't know what the exact details are. -
Yes, I'm aware of your theory which is why I worded things the way I did.
-
@Corax You've done nothing that needs apologizing for. Don't worry about it, and you've been very clear with your arguments.

I think this is doubtful. From the first OB letter: Based on the info we've been given, this letter is from Endowment. From it, we can tell that she has a very low tolerance for shards interfering with each other. I feel like with sentiments like that, should wouldn't allow Autonomy to create an extension of her power in her world. As such, I doubt Nightblood is the result of a shard's direct influence other than possibly Endowment.

If it's not a fact, then please don't straight-up say it's a fact.

Interesting thought. I wasn't on board the idea of the Dawnshards being spren or the Unmade being the Dawnshards, but this is presented in a lot more convincing manner. A thought I had while discussion on Discord which could at to this idea. From OB: What if the Unmade were made long ago, and they were used to destroy Ashyn as well. Their influence was applied there, and it was a part of its downfall.

I usually suspend any sort of disbelief about the science presented in superheroes stories. In any case, I don't watch, but I've seen Flash run up and down walls in comic books and it doesn't make any more sense.

As far as I'm aware that's not fact, just speculation. Do you have a source to back that up?
-
I find that unlikely since then the dragon just killed itself in the explosion since they're just unaging, not truly immortal.
-
Storing time seems likely, but at the same time, Sazed doesn't appear to have some change in temporal perception when he stores steel.

Did they know which shard they took up?
Spoolofwhool replied to Ambitions Avatar's question in Cosmere Q&A
Assuming the way the shards fell and were taken by the original vessels is in any way similar to what happened at the end of HoA, then they should've known. Sazed could see the shards sort of in the physical and when he tried to touch them he could intuit the nature of the shard. -
I really can't see how a dead shardblade would be usable for this purpose. Keep in mind that mounting the blade somewhere would require the holder to know how to command it to stay mentally, which requires training, which unless there's a secret line of craftsmen keeping shardblades in hiding while also training their successors in the necessary skills, it feels really unlikely. Also, it's not like they need some mystical art to cut the gems at this scale. Ancient civilizations have been able to cut gems to extremely small sizes for jewelry.
-
The current discussion is about common people secretly having dead sprenblades, which would be problematic for usual work due to their size.

Dalinar was just wondering why shardplate and shardblades were only for fighting, and why there weren't any which could be more useful for workers to use. He wasn't saying that there were actually any shards for non-fighting in any living record that he was hoping to find.

Yes, that is what the Bands of Mourning are.

Why is MBE4 the end of the Cosmere story?
Spoolofwhool replied to Ripheus23's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I was under the impression that the weirdness of the First Generation was more due to them being originally human, not having been born mistwraiths and possessing the natural instincts that kandra have. That WoB is a bit funny in that regard, but it could be saying that they just showed the effects of age earlier than when kandra would normally show them, but that's how the effects will manifest eventually. -
I was going to write up a long paragraph but realized I needed to think about it more. For the time being, I'm just going to say that I don't think he's going to undergo the same centripetal force while still anchored to the same relative point on the centrifuge while inside a speed bubble since his velocity and therefore inward acceleration would be a lot lower, too low to keep him moving along the same circular path. Also, keep in mind that a released object in a centrifuge would go sideways until it contacted the wheel, it wouldn't fall outwards since it's velocity is tangential to the circular path it's on. Correct thanks to Gagylpus

What exactly did Preservation do to restrain Ruin?
Spoolofwhool replied to Fanghur Rahl's topic in Mistborn
He never saw Ruin actually confined to somewhere. It's been awhile, but I think what he felt was the power of the Well, part of the autonomous mind that Leras had created, and its connection to Ruin, and its actions to counter his actions, which Kelsier's mind interpreted as imprisonment.- 12 replies

True, but it seems very likely that Azure's sword is a Type IV Awakened Entity because of how she refers to it. In any case, based on what we know of Awakening, there should be no reason that the power exhibited by Nightblood is default for all Type IVs. As far as I'm aware they aren't any WoBs on the matter, but some people do suspect that that is the case. Saying that Vivienna has a normal version of Nightblood isn't accurate per se since it's not like Nightblood is an abnormality from another standard, as he's the first of his kind. It would be more accurate to say that her sword is closer to what Nightblood was planned to be, imitating more closely the abilities of sprenblades.

Has anybody wondered how lift talks to nightblood
Spoolofwhool replied to SzethIsBadAsHell's topic in Stormlight Archive
Actually, that explains it perfectly. Nightblood fed on Lift's stormlight/awesomeness then was able to talk to her. That fits with the WoB in the annotations that Nightblood forms a connection to people he feeds on, so she shouldn't feel nausea anymore either. -
Why is MBE4 the end of the Cosmere story?
Spoolofwhool replied to Ripheus23's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think it does have to do with general perception of people, not just one or two entities, even on the scale of shards. However, I think shards could specifically apply pressure to create regions in the Cognitive Realm without the perception of many people.
