Aluminum through the borders of the bubble, not just generally inside it. In any case, my issue is with the idea that it would create empty zones where time isn't affected, which I don't think should be the case.

My issue with that postscript WoB is that apparently it was derived from hand gestures, not actual text, and I don't see how you can reach that conclusion from what was actually said.

As seen in Words of Radiance, people and other living things appear in the Cognitive Realm as small floating flames. I presume that Jasnah simply touched the flames that represented the cognitive of the assailants and convinced them to change, as is done with inanimate objects. Keep in mind that you're not actually convincing the physical mind of the person, just the cognitive aspect of the person which represents what they are perceived to be. Additionally, I think you can use stormlight to bribe or overcome resistance of the cognitive to change.

My opinion is that there is a flat-out mechanistic reason why you won't get resonances at high number of powers. Even if you're unaging and try for centuries, you won't gain access, or your access will be so watered-down you may as well be better off practicing with the powers you do have. I don't recall anything which says that Rashek had resonances, and that WoB above seems to explicitly exclude him from being able to have them.

That can be the case. Note however Khriss' remarks on Threnody in the essay: First of all, it seems that despite there being no shard, there was a higher than usual amount of investiture permeating the planet. That could cause some sort of natural cognitive shadow creation to occur. The second line seems to indicate that there made be some process occurring which isn't being consciously directed by people. This WoB seems to treat it more as a phenomenon or natural mechanic than a process people are intentionally working towards.

The investiture of a shard is usually in the Spiritual Realm, and requires some force to move it to being stored in the Cognitive Realm instead, as seen with the Dor. We haven't heard anything which indicates that this would be the case, so I'm assuming that the bulk of the power is in the Spiritual Realm, where location doesn't matter. There would be other ways of connecting to the investiture. Withering by shades is just what I speculated as the most common way of doing so currently. My opinion is that turning into cognitive shadows is a process which has existed on Threnody for a long time. Ambition's investiture simply changed parts of the process, and/or created variations in the kinds of cognitive shadows created.

Feels unlikely to be honest. I doubt TLR ascended before the planet was named, and even if had I doubt they would've named the planet after what basically amounts to the slave class. Other than that, I don't really know about the names. I don't think it's come up as a question to Brandon yet.

Unlikely to have been corrupted by Odium as he has been careful not to leave pieces of his investiture behind, which would weaken his whole. Alternative explanation than distance as why death by shade is required to make a shade: As you say, there would need to be some method to connect the person to the investiture. My explanation is more directly the withering process. Withering involves an injection of investiture into the target, which slowly destroys the body. As that investiture likely comes from the shade, it's probably of the same nature as the investiture which turned them into cognitive shadows. Therefore, that same type of investiture permeating you and killing you, would likely create a connection between the soul and the greater source of that investiture in the spiritual (assuming it is in the Spiritual Realm, which I think is valid since that's the default location for investiture.) The connection would then allow the investiture to convert the severed cognitive/spiritual into a cognitive shadow. I'll point out that per the distance theory, this would mean that if you died right next to a shade, you could turn into a shade. Furthermore, it seems to be that withering is connected to turning into a shade, and you may not wither away next to a shade. For instance, I doubt Silence's grandmother died next to a shade outside the in, then Silence opened the rings to force the shade in. Feels more likely she died and became a shade inside the rings.

Spiritual realm bleed through...?
Spoolofwhool replied to ArmbarBanker's topic in Cosmere Discussion
From what I recall, the Ire never actually said shades, just Threnodites, and my interpretation of that was that they were afraid of worldhoppers from Threnody from coming over. Furthermore, I think it would be difficult for shades to wander all the way there, near or in Scadrial's region of the Cognitive Realm. As some form of cognitive shadows, they would likely be maintained by some investiture connected to Threnody. This would make it hard for them to leave Threnody. -
I presume this dialogue section: The actual word is Brightcaller, not bright colors, so not as strongly pointed at Roshar. It's possible he's a worldhopper. Kind of weird that someone good enough to be a worldhopper would let themselves get stuck in a bridge crew. In any case, he apparently is from a place on Roshar called Rianal, though it's possible that he's lying about that.

Urithru is said to be west of Alethela (Silver Kingdom-era Alethkar). While the Horneater Peaks are west of Alethkar, they aren't that far west. Furthermore, after transporting to Urithru, the scholars decided that their location was close to the center of Roshar, close to Tu Bayla or Emul, with the latter being significantly further west than the Horneater Peaks. An assumption you seem to be making is that Urithru is in the same mountains that compose the Horneater Peaks. I can't recall anything which points towards that assumption however. There's also a WoB that Honor's perpendicularity moves, which indicates against it being the pool in the Horneater Peaks, and I believe there is confirmation that the pool in the Horneater Peaks is Cultivation's, but I'll have to check. Regardless of that WoB, I think it's more likely that the Horneater Peaks pool is of Cultivation. Be careful, you're making another assumption. The spren which grant surgebinding powers to the KR are of both shards. It has not been stated that surgebinding is the manifestation of Honor and Cultivation's investiture.

You should still get all ten resonances since you possess the pairings. I don't think source matters. You should also get resonances from the pairs of other surgebinding variations too. At the same time, a fair argument could be made for you not getting any resonances because of the interference due to possessing too many powers. I would honestly bet on that.

I wouldn't assume anything of that nature. Honorblades spiritually bond to the holder, which is already a huge difference from the item you referenced, so we can't really draw comparisons.

I'm pretty sure Nightblood does increase the physical strength of its wielder a bit, otherwise, I have trouble finding it possible that a regular man was able to ram the sheathed blade through his chest.

what would happen if Nightblood absorbed a shard?
Spoolofwhool replied to Thrand_Antharo's topic in Warbreaker
Doesn't seem like Nightblood is capable of consuming an entire shard's power. -
The level of oppression that Kaladin suffered is nowhere comparable to the amount Vin suffered. One had a loving household but was in an environment of religious people who resented him because of his higher-birth, the other one was raised in the streets, constantly abused, and suffered every day. I never got the impression of evil from Highprince Valam.

Do the Parshendi have soulcasters?
Spoolofwhool replied to minor character's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah, I didn't specifically say so, but I think the soulcaster would only be able to grow plants, not everything possible when binding the surge of Regrowth. -

Spoolofwhool replied to minor character's topic in Stormlight Archive
Essentially this. A theory I saw was that they have fabrials which bind the surge of Regrowth, allowing them to accelerate the growth of plants. -
Except, it's not too narrow a view. The Cognitive Realm is the realm of perception. Entities there, as well as cognitive aspects of entities in other realms, are defined by how they perceive themselves, as well as how other entities perceive them. It's not the realm of intelligence and mental attributes, as you seem to think. Muscle memory, as a matter of nerves, neurons, and other physical connections, is a physical realm item. Shards primarily exist in the Spiritual Realm, not the Cognitive Realm. This is why some manifestations of investiture can be used even at a distance from the place where the shard's power was invested, as in the Spiritual Realm, distance isn't a constraint. Also, Elantris spoilers Another possibility is that the cryptics weren't really following Shallan, but were actually in Kharabanth to observe Taravangian's work, especially what he was doing with death rattles. This makes a bit of sense when you consider that one of the people who issued a death rattle apparently saw some cryptics standing over him. It also follows when you consider when Shallan first drew a cryptic, during her lunch with Taravangian, with the cryptic lurking in the hallway behind the king. Afterwards, she started drawing them observing her, but never did before then. My theory then is that they noticed that she had seen them and were curious. She didn't draw them previously in Kharabanth because they were usually around the king, and that was possibly the first she had been around him and drawing. I'm not dismissing the idea that they were cryptics following and guiding Shallan, and I do agree that there were. However, I think the reason she suddenly started drawing them was because there were two groups. The first group, following her, was aware of her powers, so stayed out of her way so she couldn't draw them. The second group, observing Taravangian, wasn't aware of her and her powers, so they didn't try to hide, which is why she accidentally drew them, which then attracted their attention.

He kind of is though. He bears a divine breath which is a splinter integrated with his spiritweb. Also, we don't know if this means he can actually hold stormlight, or if he just absorbs what is needed to fuel his divine breath.

You would only need five Honorblades at minium to be able to bind all ten surges.
-
I agree that the spren bond boosted his skill with the spear, but that would be a muscle memory improvement, not an intellectual improvement. Overall, while I agree that there is a general correlation, I don't think it is that spren bonds specifically improve intelligence, but more that intelligence is a part of what they improve overall, as it's part of the person.
-
The mnemonic abilities are a resonance formed from possessing the ability to bind the surge of illumination and transformation. They're not due to the spren bond, and someone who gained the ability to surgebind from another source, such as holding an Honorblade, would gain that resonance as well.
-
My theory is that his resonance due to possessing steel allomancy and iron feruchemy grant him a heightened ability to perceive high speed objects, so it isn't exactly just skills.
