I really want to know more about Navani's past. When the Stormfather is overseeing her and Dalinar's wedding he says she has broken oaths before. While nobody wants their dirty laundry aired in front of all those people, it seems like shes kinda hiding something big. Then in her POV chapter with the ruling council of Urithiru she thinks to herself that she doesn't want to be in charge, and those would be dark times. These things will probably be aired in Jasnah's book, maybe has something to do with Jasnah's alluded imprisonment when she lost her mind. I'm so intrigued about her past.

I don't think Honor would require a Bondsmith if there were no suitable budding Radiant. He was supposedly mad at the end, but he probably understands that Oaths require a suitable human (host?).

[OB] Book 4 Storyline Predictions and Discussions
Naurock replied to TequilaJack's topic in Stormlight Archive
I wish we had more of a hint of what was wrong with the Horneater Peaks. What is this Unmade's ability? But maybe an army of Horneaters come marching down to attack the weakened Shattered Plains. Or else we see an expedition to the Peaks to investigate. -
I think any Stormlight he's infused into the bridge is long gone. He can't Soulcast so I don't think this infuses the cognitive perception of the bridge as a bridge and being stronger. But this reminds me of L.E. Modessitt and his Saga of Recluse how Order Mages typically carried staffs. They would accidentally/subconsciously infuse the wood so it would be much stronger than normal.

[OB] The third Bondsmith and Urithiru
Naurock replied to FirstSelector's topic in Stormlight Archive
I read this thread like a week ago and this has been stuck in my head, so now I have to come out and say how much I love it. This is literally the best way to protect/hide a massive spren from being found. What's interesting is that there's always multiple highstorms circling Roshar, correct? We've seen this spren twice now? Almost crazy odds we've seen it at all. We've won the shell game twice, without realizing we're playing or knowing how many shells there are. -
It's been approx 1500 years since the Recreance right? That's a long time for them to perfect their patented "jump that lone shardbearer" technique to slowly acquire a few sets. But I really like the prologue. It's a very interesting chapter. Have an upvote!

Very much so agree that it's not like Kaladin to run away. But you can't compare a dead Shardblade to a live Shardblade. It takes extreme concentration to throw a dead one because they normally puff to mist when they leave the shardbearer's hand. Kaladin would just have to tell Syl to stay as a spear, throw her, then call her back when he misses. Rinse and repeat. While I agree with the fact he just needs to get lucky once, I just don't see this working. Kelsier doesn't even need Atium to dodge this. Depending on the height he doesn't even need to push off a coin to dodge.
-
There's a few ways to look at this. I think the cheating answer is Kaladin dies first but inflicts enough damage on Kelsier that he also dies when his pewter runs out. The Syl shield seems to be under represented here. She seems to innately understand what Kaladin wants and needs. She blocks almost all projectiles for him, but he would get brained by something getting pulled behind him. Now, Kelsier has also already killed the unkillable. I gotta go with him. I think he avoids Kaladin well enough, nickels and dimes him out of Stormlight then goes for a kill to end it.

Way of Kings, at the Tower. Kaladin jumping the bridge to fight a crowd of Parshendi. It's still my favorite scene in the Cosmere.

Thank you for those WoBs. They were very insightful to Cryptics. As @CrazyRioter points out who the spren is loyal to is a major pivoting point. My thoughts are that Pattern has been following Shallan since childhood. She started saying ideals about 1-2 years ago? So Pattern has started expanding his sentience and after this time he thinks killing and destroying is a normal . She (or another Lightweaver Radiant) could easily twist this perception to Soulcast humans at will saying "Well it's just part of life." Or lightweave awful things to torment someone, like their family being butchered before them and say, "Humans die all the time, were trying to show them atrocities of war so we can avoid it in the future." A twisted Radiant could easily manipulate their spren, and Malata even stated her spren is out for revenge. This seems like a major issue that could strain a lot of relations.
-
So since we know Ashyn had a cataclysm of some sort, I was rereading OB and came across Pattern talking to Shallan/Veil. It struck me as partially how Parshendi are and also how weird Pattern understands the physical world. Sorry if there's any typos above, on a phone typing with book in hand. But later in the book Ivory tells Jasnah that Cryptics are dangerous. Shallan is one of the furthest progressed Radiants and her spren is still very flawed with how he perceives with his world view. Obviously coupled with other high spren like Malata's spren could be very dangerous. This could be coming to a head again with peace talks with the Azir and their distrust of Radiants. Anyone else have any thoughts?

I have read BoM and so I do know of them. I'm just curious why Hoid is unable to control his healing abilities. Guess till we get further it'll be just *shrug* Yolen stuff.
-
Thanks for the info @Landis963!

I haven't seen that specific WoB, but what I find interesting is that he can't control his healing abilities. He just does, and needed something to stop it at the end of Oathbringer for his disguise. Coppermind states he is a Feruchemist, but normally they would need to tap what's stored up in their metalmind.
-
I don't have my book on me, but I would like to point towards the early chapter that's a flashback of Gavilar and Eshonai. He directly says the captured Unmade severed them. But it also says something to the affect that the Parshendi had turned their backs on their gods and entered willingly to the humans.
-
So I've been re-reading parts of WoK, and got to the chapter Wandersail where Hoid tells Kaladin the story about the island. When he finishes talking and leaves Syl starts talking to Kaladin about his ability to draw Stormlight (because Kaladin thought he was cursed to watch everyone die while he lived) and she says this: What exactly is she taking from Kaladin? I have searched the copper mind about Nahel Bonds and the WoB database and don't see this discussed. Is she taking his ability to choose? Now as a Radiant he must protect? That's the only thing I can think of. But this seems like it could have major implications in the future when the Desolations continue past Oathbringer and more Unmade/Fused join the fight.

[OB] Do you think Jasnah likes Kaladin?
Naurock replied to The Night Watcher's topic in Stormlight Archive
No, because Jasnah doesn't suffer people she sees as acting foolish. When it comes to protecting people Kaladin is an idealist, Jasnah is a realist. Reading this post made me realize I'm shipping Nale and Jasnah. JasNale. -
Crackpot theory! Vasher and Vivenna took some back to Nalthis for their new war they had to fight. Idk how else to account for so many blades being gone.
-
From what I understand there's nothing stopping a Nalthian from passing their breath on to anyone. Reading a little bit on the Coppermind, I don't think there's anything that could stop them from being a Forger other than their own willingness to study it. Maybe a Tineye would have a massive leg up on discerning different types of wood, stone and similar organic items. Or Mistborn Era Two Spoilers
-
I think the amount of Stormlight Kaladin can hold is almost nothing to the trove of Breaths that the God King Holds. Pretty much immunity, ageless, and at the end it is just a bunch of question marks. But just a hint is the fact that he was never trained in Awakening but was able to awaken tons of objects, without touch, is a glimpse of the amount of investiture and abilities he carries. Maybe that artist is a world hopper, is 5th Heightening or higher, and is extremely in touch with the Cognitive Realm.
-
So we have seen a little bit of a convergence of how Cosmere Magic systems are working, like Soulcasting to Forgery, Sel's symbol based system and now on Scadrial we're seeing symbols start to pop up (I may be wrong on this, I haven't read Era 2 in about 10 months, and I've read a lot of books in the past year). We have a WoB saying Awakening can be fueled by Stormlight... What if a Bondsmith or Herald used Connection abilities to use Awakening Commands and magically subdued/subjugated the Parshmen?

[OB] Adonalsiumspren and Nahel Bond?
Naurock replied to NotBurtReynolds's topic in Stormlight Archive
It took Kaladin pretty much half a book to master the basic lashing on himself. I think Amaram was still fusing with the Unmade and wasn't completely done, but since he still had his own personality he was more likely to rely on battling the way he knows. Plus he seemed to be enjoying taunting Kaladin. -
There were times I thought someone in the government or a General did know! Really agree, that if someone other than his brother knows it can be suspenseful and doesn't feel so strained as you say. I liked the magic, just wish everything wasn't totally vague. For example I talked about this in a previous post, but it seems like the twins were given a bud from a different source. His Amberite was too weak to be split and grow a new bud, he was significantly weaker than his brother (which some people have suggested it could be explained away as a weak bond/incompatible). The false ending is a big issue to everyone. But these seem like nitpicking when you come down to it. I feel Brandon could resurrect this story and it could be a strong Cosmere novel.
-
Lol, don't worry! I kinda wish these were a little more active. This story was very interesting, it has good bones. If Brandon were to put some new effort in this story, change some things he's cannibalized for other stories, fix the ending and this is a solid Cosmere novel.
