  1. If it makes you feel any better school will be over before you know it, and you will have no need to ever see this person again. Personally I would rather be ostracized than bullied (depending on the severity and frequency of it). Sorry if none of this is helpful. Good luck!
  2. Five Nights at Freddie's* *don't really have a clear idea what this is, but its all the rage with middle schoolers these days. It joins the list of things I'm vaguely aware of like snapchat and instagram.
  3. Wow! Its cool that you were able to get it so many months in advance. I love this series and can't wait to see how it ends. It will be interesting what the author decides to do next. I believe he has stated that it will be a trilogy and these books are a pretty big departure from his previous books (which going off of plots I have no interest in reading). Hopefully he will do something similar to the trilogy he just completed.
  4. I and the ESV study bible I have interprets the passage in Deuteronomy as God knowing the Israel would eventually have a king despite it going against Gods wishes. There was a plan in place bc He knew it would happen and tried to offset the damage by placing restrictions like the king must be "among your brothers". This view seems to be popular among biblical scholars. This might be another thing we might agree to disagree with though
  5. The thing is with Paul is that he did gain a great amount of influence in the cities he shared the gospel to. Read 1st Corinthians just off the top of my head; there were factions that bragged about which early Christian they followed and it caused much division. He didn't ask for it either, but it happened. There was also a implication in your statement (perhaps I was mistaken) that Joseph Smith lived a cushy life bc of his religious role...that just isnt true. He was imprisoned, tortured, tarred and feathered etc. Also I bet he didnt like the multiple wife thing, but did it as a commandment...according to accounts Ive read it caused him a lot of trouble-more than it was worth.
  6. There was never supposed to be a king. But according to scripture God gave it to them even though it was a bad idea. From 1st Samuel ch 8 KJ translation: 4 Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah, 5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations. 6 ¶ But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the Lord. 7 And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them. 8 According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee. 9 Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.
  7. I finished Kings of the Wyld by Eames which just came out. I thought it was really funny and a very good book. One reviewer compares it to a combination of Joe Abercrombie and Terry Pratchett which is fairly accurate (although I see more of the latter than the former).
  8. Everyone knows that oathbringer is going to be BIG, but this article puts it into perspective. http://thewertzone.blogspot.com/2017/02/brandon-sanderson-may-have-written.html?m=1
  9. I've read Firstborn and really liked it! Basically is a story of what if you were a younger brother to a evil Andrew Wiggen. Just as good as many of the stories in Arcanum Unbounded. The rest of the Galactic Empires anthology (from what I've read) is solid as well.
  10. Its your money so you can do as you wish, but I personally feel its important to support a great author. There are lots of fantastic series out there that release a book ever year or two and the authors seem to care about their fans. If a publisher does not see great sales they will drop a series. I've been reading The Expanse series written under the name James SA Corey. These books are amazing and are all between 500-600 pgs and have been released every year (currently 6 books out of 9 are out)
  11. Bad news I'm afraid. It appears that he is actually making negative progress. From a Q and A: How does he feel the writing is going on book 3 today (as opposed to two years ago, when he jokingly rated it 3.5 stars out of 5 on Goodreads)? It’s at best a star and a half because I dismantled a big piece of it and haven’t quite put it back together. http://www.tor.com/2017/02/03/patrick-rothfuss-kingkiller-chronicle-book-3-update/
  12. I'm taking a small break from Daniel Abraham's books to read Malice by Gwynne..After 150 pgs I'm kind of torn about it. Its good, but there are some things that are keeping it from being great: the characters, world building, prose are all just ok. Nothing really stands out. I will definitely finish, but unless it picks up I will not continue the series. Part of the problem is coming off of a book I loved with Cibola Burn so this one is a bit of a let down. Still its a big book so there's plenty of time for it to improve.
  13. Are you officially a old man if you only listen to sports talk radio and audiobooks? That's all I listen to nowadays. Everyone once in a while I will change it to music during commercial breaks, but thats about it. I did listen to Blank Space recently by Taylor Swift. Its kind of embarrassing, but its a dang catchy song and I always enjoy it when it's on the radio.
  14. Looks like we got some news on the Mistborn movie. https://deadline.com/2017/01/dmg-f-scott-frazier-adapting-mistborn-the-final-empire-brandon-sanderson-1201895621/
  15. @KereDerek My favorite parts are the University sections. I like Rothfuss and Martin, but the author (that takes forever to publish) that I am really waiting for is Scott Lynch. The Thorn of Emberlain was supposed to be published in 2014...sigh I cant get to upset though; there are lots of amazing authors that are far more dependable about releasing books.
  16. Just finished The Tyrants Law by Abraham. This versatile author continues to impress and amaze me. He is quickly becoming one of my all time favorite authors.
  17. @KereDerek I really enjoyed the aidiobooks as well. My favorite voice of the series is the one he chose for the Cthaeh in book two. I've never actually read the series...perhaps I will if Doors of Stone ever gets released.
  18. @Oversleep I have always used them interchangeable, but I'll change it to avoid confusion. Thanks
  19. http://edelweiss.abovethetreeline.com/ProductDetailPage.aspx?sku=076532637X In Oathbringer, the third volume of the New York Times bestselling Stormlight Archive, the War of Reckoning comes to a sudden and destructive close as a new, far greater threat appears on the field of battle, kindled by the deadly Everstorm. Dalinar and the Alethi forces take refuge in the legendary tower city of Urithiru, once home to the lost Knights Radiant. There, he and the newly raised Radiants must explore the mysteries of the legendary city to understand and train their powers. In doing so they must also face long-lost truths that could upend everything they think they know. Humanity faces a new Desolation, and with the return of the Voidbringers, an enemy as great in number as in their thirst for vengeance, the world of Roshar will never be the same. Unless the nations unite behind Dalinar, putting aside his blood-soaked past, even the restoration of the Knights Radiant will not prevent the end of civilization.
  20. It was originally six (as mentioned earlier). Here is a link with a early history of "the original" wheel of time. It may be of interest to someone... http://www.dragonmount.com/index.php/News/book-news/a-look-at-robert-jordans-notes-r751
  21. @DSC01 To give a alternative opinion. I love Dresden, really like Aeronaught's Windlass, hate Alera (only got halfway through book 1)
  22. Yes, no release date for Peace talks yet, but based on Butcher's history I feel confident for a 2017 release.
  23. As long as people keep paying for them, and turning a profit, they'll keep producing them. Thats my understanding, but I can't remember where I saw the information I just paraphrased.
  24. The title says it all... Mine are: The Thorn of Emberlain by Lynch Peace Talks by Butcher Persepolis Rising-James S.A Corey Iron Gold- Pierce Brown (No title yet) book 3 of Ken Liu's Dandelion Dynasty series.
  25. @Who Sharded? Gotcha. It has its flaws for sure, but I still like it. I understand why people have problems with it though.
