  1. I'm far more forgiving with most fans with Republic of Thieves. I still think the first two were better though. I think I am more forgiving bc I read all three straight and didn't have to wait several years for the last one...I think many fans let the hype build to unreasonable levels during the wait. I'm curious were you one of the fans that had to wait a long time for RoT?
  2. Big fans of both malazan and gentleman bastards. Gentleman bastards is way easier to get into, but Malazan's main 10 book series is completed. When you read malazan I recommend reading it with the tor reread if you start getting confused...it is a really complicated series and requires some work, but worth the effort.
  3. I hesitate recommending it to people because it is so insanely complex some people get lost and frustrated by it. It takes place over several continents, hundreds of characters, tons of storylines etc. Its basically about the rapid expansion of the Malazan empire and the problems associated with it. There are god's, powerful mages, armies etc. It's a hard series to explain...
  4. My favorite series? The original 10 books of malazan by Erikson. Favorite Sanderson series? The original mistborn trilogy, but that may change depending on how SA turns out. Anyways welcome! Have a upvote!
  5. The short story Hope of Elantris is my least favorite. I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned some of his short stories in this thread.
  6. Favorite Book? Depends. I have alternated between 3, 4, and 5 Favorite Character? I like Neville in the latter books. Luna lovegood is also fun. Harry potter of course...its hard to pick one. House? Probably Ravenclaw, but I do have some slytherin tendencies Movie? See answer to books. I also believe that the series ended with the seven books. I did not care for The Cursed Child, Fantastic Beasts Movie, or Rowlings attempts to expand on the world after the series concluded. If you enjoy all that stuff then I respect your opinion, but thats my 2 cents. If there was a traditional sequel book or spinoff I would be willing to give it a try though...I just haven't liked anything thus far.
  7. Thanks for the heads up; I did read her Paradox trilogy (which was fun) that she wrote under the name Rachel Bach. If you are a fan of her work than I recommend this science fiction trilogy.
  8. About halfway through listening Free the Darkness by Kel Kade. I normally avoid self published authors bc I figure if it was any good then a publisher would of picked it up. This book is excellent however along with the skills of the narrator Nick Podehl.
  9. Any of us can die at any second so who knows if it will be completed? If it makes you feel any better the series will consist of two 5 book story arcs; so the first conclusion will come whithen less then 10 years or so.
  10. Finished Brigham Young: Pioneer prophet by Turner. The author is not Mormon, but seems to be fair in his assessments. Some lds people might find this book disturbing, but I loved the idea of, in my opinion, God working through deeply flawed men. Also I look at Brigham as not the prophet we deserved, but what we needed. The church was on the verge of extinction after Nauvoo and a strong hand was needed to pull everyone up, lead a migration, and settle in a remote territory. It is also unfair, in my opinion, to force 21 century morals on someone from that era. It was a fascinating book.
  11. And it came to pass the bridgmen dwelt in tents...fixed it for you
  12. Just remember "42" and you will be fine. Everything will fall into place.
  13. Does it really matter? Its going to be another 30 years or so before the series is completed. Plenty of time to save up and buy the complete series before the series reaches its conclusion.
  14. @NamelessThirteenth You forgot, "I count among my worshippers Lock Lamora of Camorr. I am the tipper of scales when judging the worth of souls."
  15. Over halfway through reading Hyperion by Simmons. This is a very good book that is basically a science fiction version of The Canterbury tales. It is well written, engaging, but each story has some minor flaw that keeps it from being great. For example: The Priest's Tale: The ending was very disturbing Soldiers-Too many sex scenes. Made me uncomfortable Poet: A little disjointed. Not a very likeable character Scholar: Not finished with it, but it is a tragedy that breaks my heart. Dispite the flaws I can see why this book is so highly thought of in the science fiction community.
  16. @CaptainRyan Just as Han shot first Kaladin will always be the one that delivered Szeth's coup de grace. I agree completely.
  17. I don't hate her, but I found her slightly annoying. I get that she feels the need to make up for the fact that she is a woman leader by acting ultra agressive, but it was just so over the top. Adare's character reminds me of a scaled back version of Kameron Hurleys characters (especially in the World Breaker series). Both authors seem to think a strong female is one that is loud, violent and using a lot of curse words, but there are different kinds of strength and I do not like this particular way of portraying it. I also feel she just makes a lot of really dumb choices.
  18. @KereDerek The previous poster was completely correct about the WoR alteration, but here is more info if you desire: https://brandonsanderson.com/three-stories-in-new-formats/
  19. Next time you will just have to yell at them, "YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH". Hopefully you will avoid the scenario you just described from repeating.
  20. @lordofarda I had completely forgotten about Graphic Audio adaption. Mostly bc I go through audible and, although I can see the appeal of graphic audio its just not my thing. Good catch.
  21. No matter where you go there you are. What I mean by this is that people think by changing their circumstances they will be happy, but in reality they are the same person and things will basically be the same. Happiness is something one must find whithen themselves. Personally my relationship with God gives me happiness. If anyone is interested send me a private message.
  22. If Glen Cook wrote Way of Kings: Here is him writing the entire Shallan and Kaladin storylines (not really any spoilers for the book, but just in case:
  23. The audiobook reads as the original hard cover release. The only book by Sanderson book that has been redone (to my knowledge) due to additional content is Elantris.
  24. Love all three of those books! I think a lot of the "western" audience just didn't get Grace of Kings, but I thought it was amazing. Goldn Son and Morningstar are improvements on a already pretty solid Red Rising.
  25. I have not read too many novellas so I wanted to create a place for people share any that they really like. I'm assuming we are all familiar with the Sanderson ones my personal favorite being Emperor's Soul. The only non-cosmere novella I can recall reading is "The Guiding Nose of Ulfant Banderoz" found in the Songs of a Dying Earth anthology (a very good story and all around anthology). What recommendations do you have?
