  1. Favorite book from Sanderson? Favorite book from any other author?
  2. @maxal from Wikipedia: Flintlock is a general term for any firearm that uses a flint striking ignition mechanism. The term may also apply to a particular form of the mechanism itself, also known as the true flintlock, that was introduced in the early 17thcentury, and rapidly replaced earlier firearm-ignition technologies, such as the matchlock, the wheellock, and the earlier flintlock mechanisms. So flintlock fantasy means fantasy with gunpowder and guns basically. The term serves the purpose of alliteration and approximate technology level.
  3. I enjoyed both of the series despite their flaws (which I agree with). Another series that started at around the same time and should have the fifth and final book published later the year is the Shadow Campaign series by Wexler. It is another "flintlock fantasy",a lot of fun, and probably my favorite of the three that I've mentioned. The first book is called, "The Thousand Names".
  4. My library system also will only keep your hold on the shelf for a week before reclaiming it. But it (and many other libraries) offer a option where you can put your holds on pause (you resume your place in the que when you unpause it without losing your place in line). I don't know if that's a option, but it may be something to look into.
  5. I just checked it out. Seems to be working fine now...
  6. Monarchies of God series by Paul Kearney. One of my all time favorites!
  7. AU has the prologue and ch 1 of the written form of White Sand in addition to the first 15 or so pgs of the graphic novel. You can do, as many others have done, and email Brandon (address found on official webpage) and ask for a digital copy of the prose version of White Sand; his assistant will email you one in 1 week to 6 months depending on how lucky you are.
  8. Ok this has been bothering me for a while. Please explain the difference between Parchmen, Parshendi, and Dull form? Do I have it right understading that Parchmen is the same thing as Dull form and Parshendi is "neutral" form that can turn into anything? Does the everstorm effect just Parchmen or every form of the Parshendi?
  9. I think most fans want him to work primarily on SA, but it will not happen. He has stated many times how draining it is working on this series and that refreshes himself writing other books in the cosmere.

    Ask me anything!

Its from the cover of the original Black Company book by Glen Cook (it is a character called Soulcatcher).
  11. Cool! I think my favorite one is Caliban's War.
  12. I know your a big WoT fan, but I really believe Brandon learned a lot from that series and what works, what doesn't, potential traps and obstacles to overcome etc. He will apply that knowledge to SA.
  13. Repeat after me: "In Brandon We Trust"

Fine you can be the reincarnation of Harambe, but just know that in a previous life I was Hammurabi. That's my thing now.
  15. Nice! Different from the previous two covers, but I like it. Really pumped for November!

@Mr. Staccato I enjoy french toast much more, but I am a calorie counter so I would more likely eat a english muffin.

Sure. If for some reason I dont like the question I will not answer, but I'm pretty laid back. I give that caveat because I feel like I'm being set up.

So, I know that I'm not the most social sharder here, but I was feeling bored. Feel free to ask me anything!
  20. I would be ok if it was like how Alexander Dumas operated. He has people that wrote stories based on his outline and then reviewed it adding his own flourishes here and there. At least thats how it went iirc. I do think it's a little morbid to talk about how to complete a series if a author dies. Especially when Brandon has been very good to his fans. No judgment, just my 2 cents.
  21. Hah yeah I read about 50 pgs and couldn't get into it. I am not giving up though. Sometimes if I wait a while and give it another shot I end up liking it. Right after I tried this book I really got into the science fiction series The Expanse by James S.A. Corey. I LOVED these books and quickly gobbled all six of them. I just finished them (or all that have been published) and have a few things on my list. I will give it another try soon.
  22. You are certainty entitled to your opinion. It has several positive things going for it.
  23. @matademonios I really like Aeronaughts Windlass as a book, but the narrator, based on the 3 minute sample I heard, is not my style and seems like a odd choice. I'm the rare Butcher fan that doesn't like the Furies series, but hopefully you will. Yes, Peace Talks is a long time coming I started listening to the series soon after Skin Game came out and have gone through all 15 books one time and am on Cold Days for my second time through the entire series. My personal favorite book is Dead Beat, because how can you top a scene where Dresden is riding through the streets of Chicago on a necromatic giant T-rex?
  24. Oh and one more thing...if you are looking for a great audiobook try the Dresden Files. Marsters does a amazing job. Also the first three books are enjoyable, but things really start getting good in book 4. The gentleman Bastards audiobooks by Scott Lynch are good, if you dont mind some cursing, as well.
  25. I like it, but not as much as others seem to. Most fans seem to find great enjoyment from the forshadowing and the crafting of sentences. I'm more of a plot guy so I am probably not the target audience. The plot seems to really meander throughout the two books and it has some other flaws, but I'm also a big sucker for great worldbuilding (which this author does well) and it has some other positive attributes that makes it worthwhile for me.
