Anyone Here a Fan of The Dresden Files?
Ammanas replied to Quadrophenia's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I guess so. Harry just gradually recognizes it, Marcone doesn't change just Harry's perception (most notibly in Death Masks) -

More so then the demons of the outer reaches such as he who walks behind or Sharkface? -

What about Marcone? He seems to have a character arc? -

I suppose Lash, but by the end she is basically a good guy. The only time, I believe, we see Lasciel is in Skin Game. I also really like the winter court if you consider them bad. Which reminds me of another hilarious dresden moment: "Cat-Sithe is not evil. Only easily bored and hyper violent". Or something like that (dont have to book in front of me). -

Lasciel of course! -
Sorry getting off the original topic here, but the funny thing is that I didn't like The Way of Kings when I first started it. I am the type of reader that loves for a plot to progress quickly. I kept thinking is Kaladin going to mope around as a bridgeman forever? When is Shallan going to do something? I then had a paradigm shift and focused on world building and character development over the plot. Now its one of my favorite series! I agree that the feeling part of the gang is one of Brandon's strengths. I also love how his books can be read as standalones, but there are so many cosmere easter eggs that make rereading so rewarding!

I'm not really excited for anything in particular to happen, but I'm just excited to experience that world again and see where the story goes. I'm excited to spend more time with these characters that I've grown to love.

When will the new Leatherbound come out??
Ammanas replied to Radiant Returned's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I have a question to those that bought the leatherbound Elantris and plan on buying Mistborn. Do you read these books or are you afraid there is a chance of damaging the books and keep them on the shelves as a kind of trophy? Just curious... -

Does anyone know if their will be any extra stuff like with what he did with Elantris? New maps, updated text etc? In answer to your question he probably will start thinking about organizing it next month after he has completed the 1st draft of SA 3. I know that's a big priority right now for him. -

There will be a new Dresden short story released this month that will be included in the Shadowed Souls anthology. -
Thanks for your input! A different way of looking at it.

LDS Influences on Themes (Theology Time)
Ammanas replied to The Rooster's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I'm relistening to Elantris so it got me thinking of LDS themes in the cosmere. One thing is when Hrathan mentions Wyrns message and refers to it as "scripture". It reminds me of how general conference talks and first presency messages in the Ensign become scripture. The whole line of priesthood authority leading to Wrn for Hrathan is also similar to the mormon church line of priesthood authority: bishops serve stake presdents all the way to the prophet. Hrathan was encouraged to write down spiritual experiences in a journal something lds members are told consistently to do. The big one though is Szeth in SA. He serves because if he doesn't his soul would cease to exist if he doesn't it is better to exist and be tormented for eternity then for his soul to cease to exist. This goes hand in hand with a popular teaching from early in church history of how we are a intelligence, clothed in a spirit, encased in a body. Outer Darkness (the harshest punishment) is a raw naked intelligence cast off into the place where we were first gathered before we evolved (if that's the correct term). My have not read the Szeth sections in a while so people can correct me if wrong. I've noticed others, but cant think of it off the top of my head. I realize some of these things will be shared by other religions, but certainly recognizeable to those that are lds. I'm not trying to exclude other religions, but don't feel knowledgeable enough to speak for them. -
I'm still a little confused on what Dominion is..is it the part of the shattered god that seeks to control others? What do you think it is?

I don't know if there is a separate thread for this and couldn't find it, but I was wondering if anyone has noticed how much Sanderson's religion has influenced his work. There are a few things unique to the Lds church I think I have noticed (although I may be wrong) and was wondering if anyone would like to discuss?

Never heard of them. Thanks for the recommendation. Have you read the Iron Druid series by Hearne? The first three or 4 are good...the following ones are less enjoyable to me, but it is a popular dresden crack fix. Also the thing with Garrett PI is, if you've read any Glen Cook, you know he has a very odd writing style; if it doesn't bother you then you are in for a treat! -

Big fan of the series! I've listened to the audiobooks twice in the past 3 years (Marsters does a amazing job). My favorite part/book in probably the one you mentioned (T-Rex through chicago in Dead Beat). I also really like the attack on the Red Court stronghold in Changes. Hard to pick a favorite character though; a strength of Butcher is so many awesome secondary characters. Funniest moment? I think it was book 5, but it was when Murphey discovered her little sister was married her ex-husband all while attending the family reunion. If not that scene than anything with Bob is funny. Anxiously awaiting Peace Talks...I'm not complaining, but I think this is the longest gap we've gone without a new dresden book. Hopefully we get a update soon. If you love Dresden try Garrett PI by Glen cook. Very different from The black Company, but a must for dresden fans; there are 14 of them. -
So ever since I heard Darkhor the first thing I thought of was Dachau. Does anyone know If Brandon was inspired to name the monastery after the real life place of terror? The names seem to close to be a coincidence to me.

I'm looking forward to both equally. I have nothing against Lift, but there are other interludes I like just as much if not more. The interlude that intrigues me the most is probably Taravangian.

Arcanum Unbounded Tour Thread
Ammanas replied to Ted aka WinespringBrother's topic in Events and Signings

I'm really looking forward to The Face-fakers game by Birch; its getting a lot of comparisons to Lynch, Rothfuss and Sanderson and the plot sounds promising. Its's out Nov 1. The Burning Isle by Panzo comes out the same day and looks good as well. The Thorn of Emberlain was supposed to have come out last month, but who knows whats going on with that. Peace Talks by Butcher should come out by the middle of next year and I can never get enough Dresden.

I listened to this series. Loved it! The narrator Tim Gerrard Reynolds also did a amazing job. Don't know if this was mentioned upthread, but Pierce Brown was inspired by Sanderson's White Sand Graphic Novel adaption and plans to release a prequel series with the first one next year (in addition to working on the Iron Gold sequel series).
