  1. The exerpt from the graphic novel is in black and white for the hardcopy book of Arcanum Unbounded if that helps. I have not read it on kindle so I cannot fullu answer your question
  2. Have you seen Stalag 17 or Enemy at the Gates? Not sure if they deserve a spot in your top ten, but both are very good. Also not sure if this counts or not as a war story, but Pan's Labrinth
  3. Nice! Looking forward to your take on it.
  4. Malazan burnout happens to even the most ardent of fans. I recommend taking a break, read something light, and cleanse your palate. May I recommend Kings of the Wyld by Eames?
  5. For some reason I thought Traveller identify was revealed in book 4...I know it is definitely revealed in book 8 though. Your next book #5 is one of my two personal favorites, but I think to fully appreciate it will have to be on a reread; most fans including myself were initially disappointed being introduced to a new continent with a new character cast.
  6. You and the rest of the mods do a great job making everyone feel welcome and keeping things under control. Sadly other forums lack such dedication and it has bad results. Keep up the good work.
  7. I don't know if this in the plans or not. Or if anyone is close to Brandon and could communicate to him this would be a easy way for him to get money. But I would love to see a book that combines all or Brandons non-cosmere short stories/novellas; such as: Snapshot, the Legion stories, firstborn etc. It would look really nice next to Arcanum Unbounded.
  8. Sel if I live by or very near fixed Elantris; Scadrial Era 2 if that isn't the case. Would you rather be a Epic (great power, but slightly unhinged) or a Rithmatist (forced to serve in the front lines against evil chalklings for a time)?
  9. I dont know what happened nor terribly interested, but if Chaos didn't ban you it cant be too bad. Welcome back!
  10. My personal philosphy is always buy books you don't own first before buying better versions (of existing books in your library) or extra copies.
  11. In addition to any Sanderson books I suggest the following: Paul Kearney -Monarchies of God series Pierce Brown-Red Rising series James s.a Corey-Expanse series Daniel Abraham-Dagger and Coin series Brian Lee Durfee- Forgetting moon (only the first is out, but it is absolutely fantastic) Eames- Kings of the Wyld Joe Abercrombie- Everything he has written
  12. For Stormlight Archives: Annoying female (Shallan) says idiotic things the entire book and everyone stands amazed of how "clever" she is. * * Before I get a lot of backlash- my description is a hyperbole of my true feelings. She does annoy me, but she does have some redeeming qualities. Of all the Sanderson character depictions she is my least favorite of all his works. My favorite female that Sanderson writes is Vin and the protagonist from Emperor's Soul.
  13. So Peace talks still has a slim chance for a 2017 release. His assistant posted the latest from a reddit AMA yesterday: At Q&As, he was estimating this winter (Dec 2017-Feb 2018), based on a New Cabin Move-In Date of late June/early July. I'd place my bets a little more conservatively, as it typically takes a minimum of 4 months between him writing "The End" and the book being released, and 2-4 months would be pretty dang fast to get done what he needs to get done--not to mention the builders' track record for missing every deadline they've set. My guess would be more along the lines of February to April at the earliest. Here's hoping he's right, though! dons beta hat
  14. I loved the first Legend of the Galactic Heroes book so much that I started the second in the series "Ambition". The second one is continuing the high quality of the first this far and its nice to just jump into the story (as compared to the first where there was about 20 pgs of "how we got here" to go through).
  15. I may be wrong on this, but I thought his next book was Wax and Wayne #4.
  16. That's why I am divided with Morgan's Land fit for heroes series. I love the idea of seeing the three "heroes" twenty years or so after the war the made them famous. It was fascinating seeing how the war and fame affected their lives and the consequences associated with it. But the sex scenes were just too much for me and I thought were unnecessary to go into such graphic depictions.
  17. The answer is yes. Although I will be the first to admit Malazan isn't for everyone...but you should at least make it through Memories of Ice before giving up.
  18. No. Its still possible. But I might of been overly optimistic at the time of the original post. I was basing my prediction on the fact that the publisher had announced a sept 2016 date and at the last minute pushed it back. I thought for sure 2017 right? Now I am not so sure. I think Peace Talks also might of been too optimistic as well. I read a interview where Butcher thinks he will finish writing it in the Fall and have a early 2018 release...sigh.
  19. There are more books coming out this year that have me excited: Soul of the World by Mealing (looks like a must read by fans of Powder Mage books) Godblind by Anna Stephens (I am a sucker for Grimdark and anything involving Gods) Soleri by Michael Johnson (looks like a cool take with Fantasy and Egyption Mythology) Court of the Broken Knives by Spark Blackwing by Mcdonald (the plot summary for this looks awesome!) Age of Assassins by Barker (its got assassins in it. Of course it will be cool!)
  20. Just started reading Legend of the Galactic Heroes vol 1: Dawn. These are the actual novels that are evidently a long time coming for a english translation. It's a lot of fun so far; its kind of like the Prussian military wars in space with more of a emphasis on politics and strategy rather the bloodshed.
  21. Its probably best to just let the reader WITNESS!
  22. Karsa grows in you as the series progresses. By the end of the series you will probably love him. He is horrible at first though. I think I ended up liking him by book 6.
  23. @AngelEy3 Just in case i will put a spoiler tag
  24. It is a compilation of modern chinese sci fi from many authors. He is just the translator.
  25. @The SovereignIf you are into Chinese science fiction. Ken Liu (editor) just released a collection of modern chinese science fiction short stories called Invisible Planets. It was really interesting and it seems like the government is opening up a bit...I know that some chinese reviewers were shocked that some of them were allowed to be published. It might be worth a look; you could look at the content listing and see if you can find them in the original language.
