  1. The funny thing is I think Brandon could make a lot of money with this idea. Imagine a book becoming a bestseller with the absurd idea of one sentence repeated for however many pages.
  2. Stick (and yes even though I do not get the stick obsession this is a shameless ploy for upvotes)
  3. A month with Taravangian written in the style of Flowers for Algernon with possibly journal entries. Sometimes he is smart and it comes across in his writing and on his "dumb" days there are misspelled words and hard to make out what he is trying to communicate. A day with Lopen running into a cousins every 5 minutes would be funny too.
  4. Welcome! Brandon also writes non-cosmere stories that are a lot of fun. I read Snapshot recently and enjoyed it! Also I thought Shadows of Self and Bands of Morning were a step up from Alloy and think you will like them.
  5. I expect that Oathbringer will be better than the two already out bc it finally feels like most of the pieces are on the board and everything is set for big events to happen. I liked Words of Radiance more bc in WoK it feels like many of the main characters were going through a really dark time and spent time lamenting their problems or at least stewing over them. In Words of Radiance the characters still had a lot of problems, but they had more power to fix them and it felt more optimistic.
  6. What has been your favorite place to live and why? What has been the biggest difference from the different cultures in which you have lived? Have you ever played jai alai? Favorite regional dish (food) amongst the different places you have gone?
  7. Its about to start getting crazy!
  8. Wise Mans Fear by Rothfuss- Sex Ninjas
  9. They lifted a firework ban in my area and said that you can set them off basically as long as they don't leave the ground. Our neighbors are launching professional fireworks by our house. I am a grumpy, old in heart, man. I can't sleep with all this ruckus!
  10. So its probably too early for such a question, but I am submitting it anyways.
  11. Instrumentalities of the Night begins with Tyranny of the Night and is my personal favorite Glen Cook series. I think you would like it.
  12. Are you sure? I think you may be confusing it with the new Black Company book, Port of Shadows, that is supposed to come out next year. Please correct if I am wrong and provide a link. If what you say is true then you have made my entire year!
  13. @AngelEy3@Briar King Have any of you read the Instrumentalities of the Night series by Glen Cook. I think it is excellent and very Malazan-ish. The only caveat I would say is that there probably will not be a fifth book due to poor sales; which is a shame bc this series is a real gem. It doesn't end on a cliffhanger, but there is so much more that he could do in that world. Anyways I love this series!
  14. No problem, thanks for considering it.
  15. It's a problem amongst malazan fans trying to explain this series. My explanation isn't very good but I say something along the lines of, "It's about the expansion of a empire and the problems that it brings. It's a story about Gods (some free some bound), magic, and all sorts of different mortals. It takes place over several continents, timelines and has hundreds if not upwards of a thousand characters.
  16. @ExtesianSo if I understand you correctly the people of Roshar think that Nightwatcher has two personas but one being? One persona is manifested as a aspect of the old religion and one as greeter of death (who the cosmere savy believe is Cultivation)?
  17. So we are all familiar with the wish granting Nightwatcher of the old magic yes? In ch58 of WoK Dalinar is reading from Way of Kings and says, "Whether we find ourselves in a hallowed sepulcher or a paupers ditch, all save the Heralds themselves must dine with the Nightwatcher." Nightwatcher in this sense seems metaphor for death a grim reaper figure. It sounds nothing like the Nightwatcher we are familiar with. Any ideas?
  18. They are Beta readers and Brandon has answered how you can become one. The Beta readers are not discussing the book though. The discussion is people guessing based on previous installments and Words of Brandon (questions answered at signings etc) Edit: it seems Calderis answered while I was typing. Sorry if I don't have much to add.
  19. As much as I loved Dragonbones Chair I needed a break to read something with easier prose. After I finish Soul of the World I am excited to continue with Stone of Farewell.
  20. No worries. Perhaps they received more copies?
  21. Its not showing sold out to me http://store.brandonsanderson.com/elantris-leather-bound-book/
  22. I started Soul of the World by Mealing and it is a excellent start so far! The author on a AMA revealed the Sanderson has been a huge influence and it shows nor only in his writing style, but he even has three rotating main characters and interludes at the end of each "part" of the book.
  23. @Oversleep Thank you for the detailed answer! I was under the impression that these orders had priests, but that ordinary catholics could also join without being a priest in order to further their spiritual development bc the orders emphasize different things and thus a more indidualized path become available for those that want it. It appears by your answer my understanding was incorrect and I appreciate you helping me understand.
  24. I am not knowledgeable enough to contribute except to ask have you checked out The Wheel of Time Companion that was released recently? It is a official release made by the authors wife and others. I would imagine it would have that info in there.
  25. @Toaster Retribution One follow up question. Have you given any thought of joining any of these orders. If so which one?
