  1. I suspect it doesn't particularly help D1 discussions that there's a lot to discuss in the house docs, being the specializations, as well as the things the various powers might be able to accomplish, which is a rather open question in this game. Regarding suspicions, two people have stood out to me in a negative way. The first is Bugsy, who seemed rather aggressive in the thread, but he's also one of the few people to mostly post thoughts and strategy. With the current RP-heavy side of things it'd be far easier for Skaa to hide by focusing on RP than risk sticking their neck out by trying to channel discussion. In other words, I don't think Bugsy's aggressiveness is indicative of him being an elim right now, though I'll keep an eye on him going forward. The things others mentioned about Lopen will make me pay more attention to him going forward as that was (in hindsight) one of his eliminator tells in a QF earlier this year (QF22, I believe), but Lopen's also not someone I'd like to lose D1 for his insight if he's village, so I'm not planning on voting on him yet. That's pretty much it regarding my suspicions right now. I could vote on an inactive, but I'd be naturally inclined to vote on one that isn't in my house, and I don't want to vote based on house-politics, so I'll keep my vote for now. This is also going to be my last post for today barring any calamities (or major bandwagons, in which case I might join up in the off-chance that it's an elim) in the next 30 minutes.
  2. Paranoia Dorvan was sitting in his office, reading through the reports from Captain Damiel, who he’d left in charge of the final clean-up of the little rebellion he’d been dealing with. He reported good progress, with most of the plantations having resumed business as usual. A knock on the door of his office interrupted his reading. “My lord, Lord Duvas Brunair is here to see you.” The reedy voice of his steward barely managed to penetrate the thick wood. “Well, send him in.” Dorvan put the report to the side. “And bring us a bottle of wine and two glasses.” *** “Ah, a 997 Tremredare red, if I’m not very mistaken.” Duvas took another sip. “That’s quite an expensive vintage if your only goal is to determine whether I am who I claim to be.” He nodded towards the bottle, which had been stripped of its label and all other indications of what its contents might be. “Have you finally been cured of that famous frugality?” “Hardly, my friend. It’s just that most that know me well enough would never expect me to serve such an expensive vintage.” Dorvan allowed himself to relax. This was the last of his close friends, and all of them had passed the wine test. Only Duvas had recognized it for what it was though. “It also functions as an apology for the measures these trying times force upon us.” “Ah, that it does.” Duvas agreed. “I’m surprised, though. Wine? Parties? I’d expected a more…heavy-handed approach in your hunt for the Skaa.” “Then what would you have me do? Wipe out all the other houses just to be sure?” Dorvan raised an eyebrow questioningly. Duvas shrugged “That might be a bit extreme, even for you, but you get my point.” “I do, I do.”Dorvan leaned forward and lowered his voice. “I am, in fact, working together with some of my contacts in the ministry. They’ve got information on various rebel cells in the city, and they’ve contacted me to provide the muscle in taking them out. There’s this group operating out of the basement of a forge that I suspect might have some enlightening information about this whole affair.” Dorvan indicated the exact place on a map that covered about half his desk. “I wouldn’t want to be those poor fools. Guilty or not, there won’t be much left of them by the time the ministry is done with them.” “Ha, that’s the Dorvan I know.”Duvas grinned, then finished his glass of wine. “Though I’d love to talk more, current affairs mean that I have a lot to take care off. If you do find a lead though, I hope you’ll share it.” *** “So, just so that I’ve got this correctly, my lord” The lieutenant spoke slowly, obviously still processing the order he’d been given. “I am to send my men to these ten locations, and just confirm that there are Skaa there? And we should be moving about like we expect to be ambushed, but if there are Skaa we are to leave them alone?” Dorvan nodded. “Exactly, Lieutenant. And remember, if there are no Skaa, you are to come report this to me, and me alone, as quickly as possible. Is that understood?” “yes sir… Though I don’t really understand…” The soldier began. “You don’t need to understand, you only need to follow orders.” Dorvan spoke harshly and glared at the man. Being slow wasn’t an issue for a lower-ranked soldier, but this officer should have gotten the hint by now. The message seemed to have finally gotten through, and the lieutenant saluted and left the room. Dorvan sighed, then moved to the map. This nights operation would both serve to confirm some loyalties, and get the other houses worried. While they sat around he was moving and striking, even if most of it was, for now, just for show.
  3. To quote @Roadwalker from QF27: A more concrete example would be from MR25 where he claimed elim, and promptly got lynched for it. He wasn't the first villager to claim elim and get lynched that game either. If you want I can give more examples, but I think this covers my point?
  4. Fair enough, and I agree with that. I have played with Roadwalker recently, but I wouldn't say I've got a good handle on his play-style. That having been said, I don't think the comment you mentioned is alignment indicative for the reasons you presented. If he had been making a larger argument about why we should let roles find the Skaa, rather than discussion, I'd agree with you, but at this point it just seems like an odd off-hand comment rather than an attempt to make people stop looking for the Skaa. If it was meant in the way you think, then it was a more subtle move than I've seen from Roadwalker in the past (no offense intended, Roadwalker, and I might be wrong). That having been said, I am rather curious about why he got to these conclusions. In a straight up elims vs. village game I might maybe agree, but as this is a faction game I think we shouldn't be assuming that there's only 1 of any powerful role.
  5. Bugsy, I might be reading too much into this, but are you suggesting that the Skaa won't have mistings? And if so, what makes you think that? I agree that we shouldn't be killing others just to see what happens, but putting in a hemalurgy-related action against the current lynch-target is not an issue, I think.
  6. Dorvan glared indignantly at the man pretending to front the meeting. He appeared to be some soft city-dweller. Did this man not know that he, Dorvan Tekiel, had only just returned to Luthadel after suppressing a Skaa rebellion his lands? By all right, he should be leading this meeting as he had the most experience with smoking Skaa out. A Noble lady shared her disdainful views of the Skaa, and Dorvan nodded along. Lady Noodlington did have a point. He slowly stood up. “Skaa might not be quite as dumb as our esteemed lady Noodlington has presented them to be, but she does make an important point. The Skaa are different from us, and won’t have the training and experiences that we have. They might have learned to talk and dress like us, but have they learned to live like us?” “I propose we hold a grand ball with the most refined refreshments we can muster. The Skaa might not have learned to dance, and betray themselves because of it. They might not have learned to distinguish wine-vintages, and betray themselves because of it. They might not have learned to hold proper small-talk among noble houses, and therefore, betray themselves. They will betray themselves in a thousand little ways. And through these betrayals, we’ll find them, and we’ll deal with them.” --- Okay, this is the point where I would normally talk a bit about the various abilities. However, each of them is so open ended that I don't think there's much that I could suggest that would be useful. or rather, I think I could suggest a lot of useful things, but I think I'll confine most of that to the doc of my House However, I think both Gold and Tin could be employed to try and find Skaa. I doubt Tin will allow for spying on the Skaa doc(though it would be worth a shot), but you might word things in such a way that you know about some or all inter-house communication, which would include the skaa(unless they're all in one house). Gold might be useful for determining if an action was performed by a Noble or Skaa. I agree with Phattemer about the importance of trying to root out the Skaa. It might be tempting to try and use the vote to get rid of another house's most active people to reduce their income of favor. However, I think that's going to cause discussion to disintegrate here as you could accuse anyone of voting merely to help their house, which isn't helpful for discussion at all. Though I might make suggestions in my house doc to use powers to hinder other houses, I promise I won't let house politics interfere with my votes and analysis in the thread. I hope others will do the same.

Can I use this on the OOTS playgrounds as my profile picture?
  8. Well, this is the 17th shard, home to a 1001 theories. I'd say most people here are at least adept at making things more complicated than they are.
  9. @Seonid, I'd be happy to help. I haven't gm'd or co-gm'd a game yet though, so if your game has three variations on lg33's naming mechanic you might want to have someone slightly more experienced (though I'd still like to try that). I've played plenty of games though and would like to think I've got a basic understanding of the various mechanics.
  10. Sorry for not being clear. I'm looking to co-gm for someone's game.
  11. If anyone's still looking, I'm interested in co-GMing an upcoming game.
  12. @Drake Marshall, you magnificent bastard! You've played this one extremely well. In hindsight there was one major clue for me that there was something wrong and that was the fact that you'd contacted your scans so late. However, I'd already convinced myself that you where the merchant and only picked up on this discrepancy when I'd died and learned you where evil. Anyway, I do suppose we're even now :P. Thanks to the @TheMightyLopen and @Steeldancer for running this game and writing the many entertaining write-ups. Finally, @BrightnessRadiant, well done with spotting the entire elim team. And I'm sure one of these days we'll be on the elim team together.
  13. I think so: Anyway, I'd been thinking about a mechanic similar to this game for a Mistborn faction game, so I'll definitely sign up for this one, as Dorvan Tekiel.
  14. It's quite quiet in here. Then again, I'm not entirely certain what there's to say at this point. I hope that, since Darkness wasn't an elim, that means that there aren't any active elims left, but I'm not getting my hopes up too much regarding that. If I die tonight, I think some attention should be turned towards Sami or Arin. I'm not particularly suspicious of either, but I'm even less suspicious of BR and Drake, and I'd like to think that both Shqueeves and HH would be posting in the thread if they where going to be putting in kills. If they come back, everything's back up int the air, of course. I'd put up a bit of RP, but most of the things I can come up with right now would require me to also rewrite the part I've send to the DM's to use if I die.
  15. Sorry for taking so long to respond. I've been studying this morning and had a dungeons and Dragons session in the late afternoon/evening, leaving me with relatively little time for the game. I'll add my vote on DA, for the reasons I outlined earlier. This'll also be my last post for today, and depending on the circumstances I might not be very responsive tomorrow, as I'll have my last exam for this quarter then.
  16. Okay, let's see. There's 5 active players left, being Darkness, me, BR, Drake and Arinian. Of these, BR can be considered indisputably village by now. Drake has voted on both Joe and Megasif, but he wasn't particularly early with his vote in either case. This means that either he's playing the bussing game reasonably effectively, or he's village. I'm leaning towards the second option right now. That leaves Arinian and Darkness. Arinian joined the vote against Megasif fairly quickly. Given that I would have been the alternate lynch option if the elims had wanted to do that I think elim!arin would have waited a bit longer to see how things would turn out. This, by process of elimination leaves us with Darkness. Now, I wouldn't be against lynching Darkness, and then Arinian or Drake if Darkness flips village, but I don't think we should ignoring the inactives. The inactives are @Sami, @Shqueeves and @Hemalurgic_Headshot. Sami's last post was in Day 2, so 5 cycles ago. Shqueeves last post in the thread was in Day 4, so 3 cycles ago. HH's last post was also in Day 4, so 3 cycles ago. If I remember correctly, the inactivity filter is set for 2 cycles, meaning that all three of the above have done something game-related outside of the thread in the last 2 cycles. This is worrisome, as an inactive elim isn't that much of a threat, but one that is active enough to put in kill-orders very much still is a danger. This is somewhat annoying as I believe the game can be solved in a single cycle if it wasn't for the inactives potentially being more active than they seem.
  17. Ah, okay. If a poisoned worldsinger had been protecting Megasif that would have been a bit worrisome, as the poisoned state for worldsinger is a strict loss in versatility and therefore it would indicate that a village worldsinger was protecting him. As that is not the case it means I can't draw too many conclusions from the vote manipulation until we see Megasifs alignment.
  18. So, this is interesting. Darkness's vote got dropped from Megasif, and someone moved Megasif's vote to himself, suggesting that we've got two worldsingers here, one village and one elim (assuming that Megasif is indeed evil, though this is still likely true if he isn't). Hmmm, actually, there's one potential issue here. @TheMightyLopen/ @Steeldancer, can a non-poisoned worldsinger move a vote to a non-vote, or do they always have to move the vote to another player?
  19. Okay, there's 7 active people left. If there's 3 elims left and they are all active, then they could potentially get a majority if we mislynch today. However, if the assassin hasn't been poisoned yet(or if it's a poisoned guard), of if one of the inactives return, or if one of the inactives is an elim, it'll take them at least another turn, so I think we probably aren't dealing with a game ending play by the elims here. Fair enough, I'll switch. Sami, Megasif. @BrightnessRadiant, I assume you back up Straw's claim?
  20. So megasif was the last to be scanned? If so, did he do an anti-poison check as I recomended?
  21. @Megasif, that could be, though Lemon had already told the thread that she was an eavesdropper. Maybe the elims had reasons to think that she was lying?
  22. okay, this is going to look a bit silly, but Sami. @Sami, I've seen you checking out the thread periodically, and apparently you've been active outside of the main thread because the inactivity filter hasn't hit you yet. At this point I'm feeling like this is getting suspicious(this goes for Shqueeves and Drake as well, btw). I'd be fine with lynching one of Darkness or Straw as well, just so we can settle that particular argument, but right now I'd liek to try adn draw some of teh less actives back into the game, and since mentions and PM's haven't made a difference, i might as well see if a vote does make a difference. Since mentiosnare free though: @Shqueeves, @Drake Marshall, do either of you have anything to add? Why do you think Lemon was targeted this cycle, and what do you think of Darkness and Straw?
  23. It's not too weird, I'm just not sure which of the possible reasons it is. In no particular order it could be because: Balance of information and impact: Killing the most active player will give the most information. Conversely, killing inactives will give very little information, but will also not thin the ranks of those trying to find the elims. Going after the middle ranks might be considered a good balance of impact and giving out information. Camouflage: There are one or two elims among the very active players, and they don't want to thin their ranks to make them stand out. Misdirection: The elims are aware of the possibility of number 2, and want us to think that that's the case when it isn't. Doesn't want to kill the game: If the elims had, instead of taking out Sart, Jondesu and Lemon taken out the most active players, this game might have gotten extremely quiet. That's not really fun, so maybe the elims wanted to avoid that. edit: Hitting trusted people: The elims took out Jondesu who was generally regarded as cleared village. I was the only one to suspect Lemon, I think, and I changed my mind last night. Maybe the elims decided there was little chance of a lemon lynch and decided to kill her instead. edit: None of the above: Maybe the elims had some other specific reason for taking out Lemon. If someone has an inkling of what that might be, I'm all ears Also, @Arinian, maybe the fact that I took the unremarkable vote might help a bit with proving that I'm village? There's been two cycles where the unremarkable vote landed on someone that no one really suspected or had an argument against, suggesting that the elims have enough unremarkables to rig the vote. Unless you've been doing a lot of lobbying to turn public opinion against me, it would be rather unlikely that elim!Randuir would take that vote when there are other possibilities.
